Summary: ACCESS THE PAST TO PROTECT OUR FUTURE
Review: This book is much more relevant to the American public now than when it was first published. The post 9/11 culture of a more sobered America will be less forgiving of this egregious trampling of our standards and qualifications for those who see, handle, and pass along our nation's top secret files and documents.

When former FBI agent Gary Aldrich wrote this portentous book, I'm sure he could not have fathomed how devastatingly important his worries about a purposefully broken security system within the White House would prove to become within his lifetime.

A feverish and almost successful attempt was made by the Clintons to keep this book out of the hands of "We the People." This book is DANGEROUS for all Americans of both political parties who DON'T read it.

It's a jaw-dropping, eye-witness account of the intimate inner workings of a dysfunctional, "truth is relative," White House led by an illegitimate co-presidency fraught with jealousy and selfish ambition that gave way to every conceivable evil, long before the infamous headlines of shameful presidential misconduct reverberated around the world.

Mr. Aldrich's primary assertion is that "character matters" and our nation's most recent history has vindicated him.

The two key and extremely savvy political players about whom much of this book is written, have refused to recede into the background. Should they ever reemerge to live and reign another day, it would be a clear and present danger that Americans have now been warned about.

Summary: Suprisingly good
Review: I didn't expect much from this book, and I have to say that Mr. Aldritch does seem a bit of a prude at times. Still, what he has to say is important, and it seems that as time goes by he is revealed to be more right than wrong.

Summary: MUST READ! Shocking and Rings with Truth.
Review: THis is a must read for everyone. Even now, even when President Clinton isn't president. Why?

Well, Al Gore is maybe going to run again? Hillary is making noises like running and both of these people are tied directly into how the White House was managed. And, this book is VERY clear in that Hillary Clinton was largely in charge of many of the scandles that occured during the Clinton years.

This book was a shock! Absolutely a shock to read how security for the President and First Lady was lacking during these years. This was a shock and what was even worse was to read how the House Oversight Committee did nothing, when it was in their power to do something, how the FBI 'caved in' when they didn't have to. IT was a shock to read the disregard to safety and security that was evident among the Clinton years.

And- not once have the allegations in this book been refuted. And many of these same issues have been brought up in the press (although lightly glossed over). This book rings with truth. This author continually worries over his reputation and is willing to back up what he says with quotes, witnesses (when he can), proof, documents and more.

I rated it a four for one reason- I think that sometimes the author does lower himself and whine. There were a few times when I thought- 'ok, got it, made your point, move one..' and he continued to drive the point home or whine about it. Some of it was picky little items that really had nothing to do with the idea of the story (The security of the White House and the security of documents in the White House and such issues).

Well worth reading.

Summary: Trash
Review: Wow, the level a hatred this author has for President Clinton is off the charts. I picked this book up as a sale item thinking there maybe be something fun and interesting in it. What I got was about 50% petty complaining, 40% personal hatred and 10% pure fantasy. I mean the biggest gripe this guy has is that the Clinton administration was not that good at turning paper work around, this was not the national crisis issue the author tried to make it out to be. And the lies, they must have been the only way he thought he could sell the books.

I am glad that I read this book after the Clinton presidency when there was a lot of other material to counter balance this diatribe that would have made the best Nazi propaganda writers stand up and take notice. If you hate Clinton then this book will warm your heart, if you are neutral or like the former President then do yourself a favor and stay away.

Summary: A shocking book which, if true. . .
Review: . . .prefigured in a frightening way the later scandals which engulfed the Clinton Administration.

Gary Aldrich, an FBI agent assigned to the White House toward the end of the Bush tenure, has penned a frightening account of the reckless and irresponsible behavior in the early months of the Clinton White House. From sexual pecadillos to open drug use to security breaches of (potentially) the most dangerous sort, Aldrich documents what he personally witnessed in the performance of his duties.

Even if only a tithe of this book was true (and I believe that the book is fully accurate) the Clinton era would have to be considered as the most deranged period in Presidential history. Thank God it's over.

I highly recommend this book -- although it grieves me to do so.

Summary: Revealing if a bit odd...
Review: This behind-the-scenes book is revealing at times and rather odd at others. Aldrich does a commendable job at describing the libertine days of the Clinton White House. The details are researched well (as a professional background researcher) and written quite well, given the fact that the author is not a writer.

Still, the entire thing seems almost as childish as the Clinton White House. For evey insightful revelation about security breaches and misconduct, is a comment about the "girlishness" of the men and the "dorm-room" mentality of the WH inhabitants. The author makes pains to say how impartial and apolitical he is, but his anti-Clinton views seep in rather unsubtly--though whether this was an antecedant to his contact with the Clintons or was formed by it is not really revealed.

This book--rather short, and easy to read--has quite a few funny anecdotes (the Christmas tree scene is great fun) and the author can keep a sense of humor about the entire thing. Clinton supporters will rightly call it anti-Clinton propaganda. Anti-Clintonites will be comfortable with his level of antipathy and take the stories to heart. This book could have been written in a more objective manner, to give it a bit more weight. As it stands, it just seems like a right-wing crank venting about the hippies in the White House. His credentials are impeccible, and I do not fault him for his position or his honesty. But the book hardly shows this level of professionalism.

Is this an important book? Yes, it is--it confirms many of the things we already knew about the Clintons, and it's good to have a concrete source for it. On the other hand, it's written in such a biased way that it's hard to use it in arguments, since Clinton supporters can point to numerous passages that display Aldrich's bias. I would have preferred a less biased book with the same amount of information.

Summary: The Clintons: Unlimited Excess
Review: A quick easy read about the stupidity of the Clinton administration.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Depressing, but enlightening
Review: Don't read this if you only wish to "feel good". Read it if you want to know what happens when you allow miscreants to occupy the highest offices in the land. Time will tell if we really can survive 8 years of the Clinton administration. A good read for those of us who can't be on the "inside" of the White House.

Summary: 2001: A Retrospctive
Review: I inadvertently clicked a link to this page. It is interesting to note that the book was so heavily criticized as innacurate at the time, but how subsequent events, court testimony, etc, have proved so much of it true.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Very amateur stuff presented poorly
Review: This book is extremely poor in the way in which it attempts to highlight serious issues and abuses that took place inside the White House. It reads like on long and unending lament terms of all of the failures of the early Clinton White House. I should say that I am no great supporter of Clinton but this book takes Clinton bashing to the extreme with tales of petty goings on in the months immediately after Clinton became President. The other thing to be said about the way in which the White House was being run during this time is that the administration recognised it was off the rails and set about bolting things down.

If you're a serious reader looking for information on how Clinton got to grips with national or international issues during his first months in office then this is not the book for you. Go and read Bob Woodwards book The Agenda and David Gergen's Eye Witness to Power and you will see what I mean.
