Rating: Summary: Touching and fascinating story of the famous bombshell Review: Marilyn deserves respect and to rest in peace and this book frees her from the lies that have been said about her so often. The author provides letters, and answers to the most toughest questions, and never fails to back anything up. It is THE book for Marilyn's life and nothing can convince me otherwise. The last day of her life was a sad one filled with controlling people who were emotionally disturbed. I would definetely read it and see what you think.

Rating: Summary: THE biography of Marilyn Monroe Review: Spoto does biographies one might ordinarily pass by on the checkout stand, but the difference is manifest the moment one starts to read a bit. His are first rate, and much better choices for some of the favorite tabloid glamour girls like Jackie O, Liz, and Marilyn. I'm not sure I'd spend $100 on the audiotape version of this, but if its unabridged I'm sure it is worth listening to. Spoto's excellent analysis on her death includes interviews with surviving people involved in the investigation, reading the autopsy reports, and evidently consultations with doctors. It's nice to see a factual account of her death at last, and I say that as someone who is not a fan of the Kennedy men and their sexual misconduct. See also "Something's Got To Give" (VHS).
Rating: Summary: A WELL EXECUTED MYTH BY A TYPIST WHO CLAIMS TO BE AN AUTHOR Review: spoto gives a lot of details on marilyn's life, but he is definitly hidding the truth about her death. This book was the first bio I read about marilyn, but since that time, I discovered others, better. As a great fan, I suggest " enquete sur un assassinat" by don wolfe. I dont know what's the title in english...its the continuation of the biography of anthony Summers. Two great books, and you can feel the last moments of the star, and understand the conspiracy, with official documents , autopsy reports...read it, you will beleive.
Rating: Summary: a chasm of inductive leaps Review: Spoto spends a lot of time drawing conclusions backed up by flimsy evidence and armchair psychology. It all comes off as a little too Freudian.

Rating: Summary: well-researched, fascinating biography Review: Spoto's research and treatment of Marilyn's life and death results in one of the most fascinating biographies I've read. It's excellent!
Rating: Summary: Good biographical info but twisted ending + same old photos Review: The best thing about this book is that the author really knows Hollywood and the film business inside out, and you get a great insight into LA in the 20s, 3os, 4os 50s and 60s. He also gets hold of minutiae about MMs life, her daily rituals towards the end of her life, etc He's obviously a big Kennedy fan, and there's no harm in that, but he goes to the other extreme of people who claim Robert Kennedy had a hand in her death, saying they hardly knew each other, and that a demented nurse and jealous doctor did her in, trying to deflect any Kennedy connection whatsoever. Quite hard to believe after all the other stuff, and not very convincing either. And for all its claims as the ultimate biography, for all the contacts and Hollywood info, and for the price of the hardback, its a shame he reproduces photos seen a thousand times with no new ones whatsoever, and all in black and white. Disappointing! The numerous glaring typo errors don't help, either.
Rating: Summary: Why this book is different Review: This book does a fascinating exploration of the MM's death. Spoto believes that Mrs. Murray, the housekeeper, gave the edema that ended MM's life; she was following Dr. Greenson's orders. That's why Mrs. Murray was washing the sheets when the police arrived--to destory the evidence. This made sense to me and I've read every possible account of her death. Of course, the coverup still occurred to protect any vulnerable politicians (and we know who they are, don't we?). That's also why Dr. Greenson and John Minor went on record saying that MM did NOT committ suicide. This book does only present MM's press agent, Pat Newcomb, and her version of the events, but it's still fascinating. I highly recommend this one for a different account of MM's death. This version seems logical to me: a horrible and tragic accident.
