Rating: Summary: THIS IS THE BEST BOOK OF MARILYN.....EVER! Review: I have been a serious Marilyn collector for Years.Donald Spoto's book is the closest thing to finding the "real" Marilyn. He tells it like it was.I have long been sick with all the bull that's been written about Marilyn. Here the ending makes sense.Donald Spoto researched unbelievable amount of material, including Marilyn's spychiatrist's private papers. This book is very accurate as i have many, many pictures collaborating this biography.Don't waste your time with the outrageous claims of socalled Marilyn friends. The worst of them being that Robert Slatzer! I have THOUSANDS of Marilyn Pictures and he is only in 2 of them. And they look like tourist photographs, taking at Niagara Falls in '52. In all my books,NOBODY close in her Life EVER mentioned this man.I think the guy is full of .... myself.Get this BOOK! PS: I have a complaint about the review from "READER FROM USA" on January 8, 1999 - Get a grip! It is people like you that keep this rediculous stuff about murder going. Reading your review i realized u don't know what u are talking about."Donald Spoto just adds his own facts?", excuse me but did u see the amount of material this guy was into? AND THERE'S NEVER BEEN ONE IODA OF PROOF OF MURDER BY ANYBODY.
Rating: Summary: Finally, someone gets it right Review: I have read many Marilyn bios, and this is the only one that finally gets the details right, not only about her life, but also the sad truth about her death. Thank you for giving her the justice of piecing together what really happened.
Rating: Summary: I love Marilyn but not the book Review: I liked the book because it dose give a lot of information about her and her life. But the book also talks about all these other people and it critisises her and her life and a author should not do that about the subject he is writing about. So I think this book is good to get for people who are more interested in her death more then the girl herself. If you truely love Marilyn she would not want you to buy this junk. It dose have a lot of cool pictures but thats all I would buy it for.
Rating: Summary: To be avoided... Review: I love MM -isn't she what any woman dream to be and any man dream to be with ?- and recommend other books for fans who really want to get acquainted with her and discover touching details about her life (Wolfe's, Summer's, among others). A lot of fantasy exposed in this book (Norman Mailer was more successful in his and the pictures are more entertaining!) and not many interesting facts. If there is a truth about Marilyn, it is not in there ...
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Done by Donald Spoto Review: I really enjoyed reading this book! It was so hard to put it down once you got going. You really find out a lot about Marilyn's life that no one has ever talked or written about before. I've liked Marilyn since I was about 13 or 14 and now I'm 26. I've always been interested in her life and now I feel like I finally know what it was like. This book really covers everything, from birth to death. To really find out what happened to Marilyn, READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Interesting book; nice pictures Review: I was shocked to read about her childhood and how she was pushed into her first marriage. I've been a huge Marilyn Monroe fan for years and enjoyed learning more about her life. The only thing I didn't like was that the book kind of "fell apart" at the end. It got a little fuzzy when the writer was discussing her death.
Rating: Summary: Good But Review: I would have given this book more stars. It was good and when you read about marilyn it seems like she is still alive, the book has that quailty. The only problem is when the author speaks of how Monroe might have played JEan Harlow and how Marilyn and her partner went to discuss it with Jean mother. this is ridiculous becase jeans mother died in 1958 and the author has marilyn talking to her in 1962.
Rating: Summary: Don't read this if you dislike facts. Review: I've been reading MM books for a couple of decades now and I've become disgusted by the amount of sheer garbage that has been printed about this woman. What a relief to read a well-written book based on facts instead lies, rumors, and prurient gossip. Spoto discredits the absurd "Kennedy murder" theory and MM's supposed connection to "the Mob." Basically, he discredits all the trash that has become accepted as fact about MM, including Robert Slatzer's idiotic claim to be her husband. What I liked best about this book was its affectionate attitude toward its subject and its reliance on what can reasonably be determined to be true, as opposed to repeating scurrilous old rumors and wild gossip. Of course, it's the dirt that sells these days, which is why the more garbage-oriented books about MM sell better.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly detailed Review: In this bio, Marilyn finally egts the treatment she deserves, no as the sex goddess but as a human being. Spoto uses hundreds of interviews and uses it in the bio. Often it was pretty touching and heartbreaking. Poor Marilyn, if only she ever had the chance to be happy. You can see how trained Spoto is in using his craft in writting for this biography, at times it is rally poetic making the buio almost sound fictional like a novel, and novels are great. All and all the bio paints a loominous and intimate portrait of one of Hollywoods most precious actresses. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Bah-humbug,baloney, and not much to ballyhoo about! Review: Marilyn deserves respect and to rest in peace and this book frees her from the lies that have been said about her so often. The author provides letters, and answers to the most toughest questions, and never fails to back anything up. It is THE book for Marilyn's life and nothing can convince me otherwise. The last day of her life was a sad one filled with controlling people who were emotionally disturbed. I would definetely read it and see what you think.
