Summary: Spectacular Read!!!!
Review: This was the first Frederick Forsyth book I have read. This book was incredible! It makes you feel you are moving along with the Jackal. The character descriptions are some of the best I have seen. There are also many twist and turns in the book that are completly unsuspected. This is without a dought an absolute must-read book. A true classic everyone should read.

Summary: A modern classic - straight between the eyes
Review: A much needed respite from Clancy's macho posturing and flag-waving antics, The Day of the Jackal is a nail-biting thriller which follows an assassin as he plots to kill the French President and the detective assigned to stop him before he does. Characteristic of his later novels, the author skillfully mixes actual historical figures and events with his own characters and story. Now that Clancy has begun to decline, Forsyth is one of the most consistent writers around. Check out Icon his latest. (With regard to the confusion amongst readers as to the identity of Forsyth's 'jackal'- he is a fictional assassin. The terrorist Carlos the Jackal got his name when a journalist found a copy of Forsyth's novel in his apartment!) A timeless read.

Summary: The Day of the Jackal - Gripping suspense, Immersing setting
Review: Allthough this book was written more than a decade ago, you cannot tell that from the story the writing style. Frederick Forsyth delivers a complex fiction about a plot to murder the Charles DeGaull, president of France in 1963. Using historical fact, Forsyth blends with fiction and fact to deliver a smart and fast-paced political drama. Fans of Ellroy's "American Tabloid" and Delillo's "Libra" would definatly enjoy this book, which should be a considered a classic.

I had a lot of fun reading this book. I would reccomend it to anyone who has become bored with cliche Tom Clancy style espionage fiction.

Summary: Great build-up but lacks climax
Review: The title of the book is "The Day of The Jackal" but on the actual day of the Jackal its a big let down. The two main characters meet, say each others names and then... I was left with the feeling of "that's it?"

Summary: superb, fast-paced, page-turner, breath-taking suspense
Review: I had read so many books, pocketbooks for that matter, in my entire life. Admittedly, while years go by, i have been very selective of the kind I am reading. Frederick Forsythe is a very fine example of an author that makes good reading. One will not regret spending a good whole day of vacation time by reading his work which, more often than not, is really a masterpiece. The details were so vivid and real, you could easily imagine the characters and most of the places that he mentioned in this story. I must admit I had to postpone of one my most important appointments just to finish the chapter where the linkage to the other parts could not be missed. The cost of pocketbooks in my country is now very prohibitive what with the current currency crises. However, I don't mind considering the enjoyment I tasted while savoring the richness of the story. When I met my asociates whom I had to see and told them the reason why I excused myself from attending that business deal, they looked incredulous. In turn, I recommended for them to read the work and feel if they have any regret doing what I did. The work is par excellence !!!!!!

Summary: You won't be able to put it down--GUARANTEED!
Review: This is not great literature like "The Scarlet Letter" or "Brother's Karamazov" but it is the best at what it attempts to be--possibly the most suspenseful, can't-put-it-down thriller ever written. The tension is wound so tight that I actually HAD to put it down to collect myself and catch my breath. The guy who gave it one star is seriously delusional and bitter.

Summary: "Cat and Mouse" has never been told more thrillingly!
Review: From the first page of the book, I was spell-bound. Frederick Forsyth set the standard for all future such "cat and mouse" thrillers. And never has the mouse (The Jackal) been more impersonally lethal and cunningly charismatic. I absolutely loved this book!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Thrilling, smart , and believable
Review: The story kicks off with a bang in the City of Lights. Soon Lebel, the clever French detective is on the case of finding the mysterious Jackal. Forsyth does an admirable job of allowing the reader to get inside the head of each of the characters. This book is an absolute page turner that should be called a "classic".The French setting adds to the fun. The fact that it was written so long ago is irrelevant because this story transcends time. I strongly recommend this to anyone who's in the mood for a smart thrill ride.

Summary: I would rank it as one of the best books I ever read.
Review: I found it to be the most challenging and thrilling book I ever read. It was a book I found very difficult to put down. The intrigue was magnificently played out.I have also seen the movie,on at least three ocassions, and have found it to be equally as thrilling.

Summary: Insurmountable!
Review: For having been written over 25 years ago, The Day of the Jackal in my opinion, is the book that established the standard and authority of the assasination/cloak-and-dagger-spy genre. A brilliant narrative, unbearable suspense and the ingenuity of Forsyth are all present here in one package. Read it and and you will know what I'm talking about! In fact, read ALL of Forsyth's books, for he is an incredible yarnspinner, using historical facts and presenting it to us as plausible events that might have been yesterday's headlines.
