Review: The story takes one through the pinnacle of meticulus planning and grit,when the highly infilterated and cash strapped OAS decide to eliminate de Gaulle.The unknown mercinery,code named Jackal is hired whose inner feeilngs never come to his eyes.What follows is typical Forsyth material-high action,narrow escapes,and hunting French Detectives.It really is a marvel that only Frederick Forsyth could have produced! I have never read a more spellbinding thriller!

Summary: a spine tingling formula for the perfect assassination!
Review: New to Frederick Forsyth novels, I found The Day of The Jackal to be exciting, tactical, and well plotted all the way through to its explosive end. Forsyth truly demonstrates how real the text on his pages is as the reader very easily sees the animation of his abilities to tell the perfect thriller.

Summary: Think the book was great? SEE THE MOVIE (THE ORIGINAL!)
Review: Book was fantastic! The movie equally so as it was very faithful to the book. The movie version I refer to is the original one from 1973 directed by Fred Zinnemann (sp?). It is still available on video and any major video store (Blockbuster, Hollywood, etc...) should have no trouble finding it for you.

Review: This book is a very good thriller. Even though written a while ago, it did not age. The atmosphere is very realistic and I have been amazed to see how well a foreign writer could describe the atmosphere of France in the 60's. So, another Forsyth to add on your list.

Summary: The book that keep me reading and rereading
Review: It keep me reading and rereading for years and I always wonder whether it is true or not.Still the details are accurate and very informative.The book expose many information on how to make forged identity cards. I am also interested in the characther of the killer since he is very obsessed with perfection but at last were killed by a mediocre but patient policeman.It goes to show that however smart you are,the steady routine work by a patient man or woman can beat you.

Summary: lean, well-paced thriller
Review: Having read numerous political thrillers, The Day of the Jackal remains one of my favorite. Forsythe keeps the plot moving at a lightning pace, making the book almost impossible to put-down. The skill with which Forsythe wrote is even more obvious after seeing the ridiculously bad film version starring Bruce Willis.

Review: I bought this book based on the reviews of others on this board. I was very disappointed. The book was well written but I just did not think that it moved fast enough. It took me months to finish this book. After reading the reviews I was probably expecting too much.

Summary: A plain, realistic, brutal portrayal of a cold assasin
Review: The Jackal (chacal), an efficient, inovative, clever, cunning, cold-blooded, ruthless, non-existant assasin. The portrayal of an assasin sent to kill Charles De Gaulle. May sound like an over-the-top storyline but this is anything but that, this is an absolute classic novel (reflected in the movie version). At the end of this novel you wonder how much of this story is actually fiction. Forsyth writes in a matter-of-fact style much like a reporting style, which won't let you get into the Jackal's mind and thought. A definite must-read, I love it!!!

Summary: Masterfull, totally believable, beautifully detailed
Review: Very few books can compare, except for Forsythes other books, with the engrossing nature of this masterpiece. A book that can be reread many times and still hold you spellbound. An utter classic. The characters and depiction of the context is very detailed and incredibly well researched.
