Rating: Summary: Great Book for beginer's and a Excellent reference for Pro's Review: Great Book for beginner's and a Excellent reference for Pro's. The chapter to chapter sequence is just right for the topic(Solaris).
Rating: Summary: Like a good expresso Review: HiIf you have basic Unix knowledge and If you want learn to how to manage a Solaris box, you have to buy it. Good introduction for Solaris Administration. Regards
Rating: Summary: COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER Review: I have little UNIX or Solaris experience, so for me this book provided a spotty overview of the Solaris 8 O/S. It didn't provide an overall perspective of Solaris, tying all the pieces together to form a complete picture. It would have been great if the authors listed out the applications that come with Solaris (there are a truck load); it would have been even better if they detailed some of them. For those of us that don't have time to read through an author's opinions, this text leaves much to be desired.

Rating: Summary: Fine Book Review: I've purchased this while I've started working in a Solaris Shop. Fine book, eventhough it starts aalmost from the beeging taking someone with little system admisntration experience to become a seasoned sysadmin.
Rating: Summary: Lumination Review: It was like someone turning on the lights after groping in the dark trying to understand Unix. Analogies describing ports/sockets was compared to doors to a building that allowed you access to different services. Is there a book like this for CCNA? Please show me the light if there is. During my unemployement I rush to understand IT concepts to get me certified, seeking to know the subject intimately through understanding rather through memorization. Finally, I have UNIX cornered with the help of this book.
Rating: Summary: The best Solaris Book so far ! Review: This book has the same quality and relevance level as the well known classic "Unix System Administration Handbook", but then specifically for the Solaris Operating Environment. This book is what "Solaris Solutions for System Administrators" should have been. If you don't know Solaris, this book can take to the level where you will be optimising (performance and security) driver parameters with ndd, and doing network diagnostics with snoop etc. If you are an experienced Solaris System Administrator without a photographic memory, than this superb piece of documentation will be the reference you want.
Rating: Summary: Great help to any Admin Review: This book was a great help to me. I had not used Solaris for around 2 years, and this book helped me to get a feel for where I was, and also helped me land a great job. I recommend that everyone currently in or thinking about entering into Solaris work get this book!
