Summary: Interesting until the end
Review: I enjoyed this book, until the ending when it falls apart with a pasted on ending. The romanace between the constable and the horse breeder was good until teh end, the murder investigation was good until the end and the fathers relationship ti Hannah was interesting until the end. MW just wanted to stop working and gave us a pasty ending. Until then I found it interesting and insightful and labyrinthian.

Summary: A really bad read!
Review: This is a really poor and predictable read - it was obvious from the beginning who committed the crime. In an effort to draw you away from the obvious the author tried to desperately confuse you with place names and throwing in characters that played no part in the scheme of things.

Summary: Quite mediochre I would say, keeping in mind her earlier
Review: A quite ordinary book, and I hope for gods sake Minette W hasn't lost inspiration, keeping in mind the best ever titles she produced before the Breaker. I personally long very much for her next book, does anyone know when it will be released?? We discussed on my job today and someone sad her new book had recently been released in UK. Is that true?? Does anyone know?

Summary: I love Minette Walters but...
Review: Her latest leaves a little, okay a lot, to be desired. It took me over 50 pages before I was even remotely interested in the characters involved and I had a difficult time keeping track of who was who. I would recommend skipping this book and reading one of her other delicious mysteries such as The Ice House or The Scold's Bridle. She is an excellent mystery writer who keeps you guessing 'til the end but i guess she lost a little of her magic in this last one!

Summary: The Breaker does not live up to Ms. Walters' prior works.
Review: Minette Walters never fails to write a dramatic and riveting mystery and succeeded again with The Breaker; however it is not the suspenseful page-turner of her past works. Slightly more predictable and not as easy to "get into" the lives of her characters, this latest of Ms. Walters mysteries was somewhat of a letdown. When reading all of her books I felt it was necessary to concentrate and pay close attention to all the clues to determine whether or not they were important. That was part of the attraction to her books. This latest one was missing the quirky, intriguing characters of The Sculptress, Ice House, or the others. I will still look forward to the next Minette Walters book and hope the wait won't be a long one.

Summary: The most fabulose and brilliant book I've read. A Twister!
Review: This is a book which I decided to read after being ocnverted to a Waltes fan after watching the BBC's adaptaions of her ealier books. The tale in this book is brilliant with a writing twisting polt right to the very end. It entails a love story but chiefly the investigation of a murdered woman found on a Beach in England. The plot thickens though out to give a wonderfully compelling drama and story. Full of imagery and plight the sotry slowly discovers the killer and rapist. The book is unmatchable by any author and is high above any other crome novel I've read. I feel this book to be an outstanding read! Its hard to put down! I read it within a week!!!!!!!! Fab! Keep turning them out Minette!

Summary: Good Beginning -- Should Have Stopped There
Review: The review for this book states "Each character is protrayed in depth and the solution lies in understanding what goes on inside their head". This is a FALSE statement. While you might learn about the characters, you learn about them through others perceptions (which change from person to person)and not what goes on in their heads -- and since the characters are so busy lying when they talk, you never really know what the truth is. The only character we find out through his own thoughts would be from the likable/hatable local PC but I still don't feel like I knew him at all.

She keeps changing the person describing the story, but it's mostly from the police side. Since she starts the book from the victim's last thoughts and the killers thoughts about the daughter, I had hoped to be brought back into their thoughts as the story progresses (and how the review indicates).

This book reads more like a police procedural. Since many of her readers have come to expect the introspective viewpoints of her characters for filling in the blanks about their personalities, this book will leave many unfullfilled.

I know in "real life" no story is never really tidy -- that may be her excuse for leaving so many things undiscussed. Yet, when you mention them on the inside of the book cover to get you hooked, you need to provide more of a sinister explanation. Like the part about "and why does the daughter scream everytime her father picks her up?" Don't get excited -- the explanation has nothing to do with the plot.

If you like police procedurals, give this a try from your library. If you are looking for the same type of style from her, don't bother.

Summary: Top-notch in the mystery genre
Review: This book is a complex little gem for anyone with an interest in psychological development in characters. The plot is like a tapestry - perhaps a deceptive one like a quilt masquerading as a dog blanket. I thought the twists and turns were fascinating but what really makes this novel stand out is the superb character drawings - really first class. I am a big fan of Elizabeth George but I rate this author a bit higher.

Summary: Confused plot and unsatisfying read.
Review: This book has a meandering plot that sets out deliberately to confuse the reader and only succeeds in confusing the author. The fact is there are so many loose threads by the end that Minette Walters forgets to tie them up with a plausible ending. Not the worst book I have ever read but close. BP

Summary: Interesting start - confusing finish
Review: This is really a terrible book. Very disappointing as one has come to expect more of the author. The premise is interesting and, in the beginning, the characters are realistic and believable. As the book proceeds, the plot begins to fall apart. It is as if the author puts words into the character's mouths that have nothing to do with what they said or thought the day before. The whole thing ends up in a confusing mess.
