Rating: Summary: A Heart Touching Story! December 5, 2000 Review: V.C. Andrews was a great author and a very talented writer. She wrote many heart touching and deep meaningful books before she died. Whoever is continuing to write under her name is also a great writer. Rain is a deep and touching book that would touch the soul of anyone who reads it. It portrays the life of a young girl named Rain and her struggle to get through life in the ghetto. Suddenly, her home isn't her home anymore, and her parents aren't who she thinks they are. She is taken away from the only family she knows and is put with her rich family that she doesn't know. She struggles a lot with doing the right thing and doing her best to follow the rules. I loved the book so much that every time I had a spare moment, I was reading. I let my mother borrow my book, and pretty and triumphs that will touch your heart. It is so enjoyable you won't want to put it down. She shows how one girl's struggle makes her a strong person who can conquer anything she wants.
Rating: Summary: V.C. Andrews does It AGAIN! Review: I found this book very intriguing. I put this book up there with Sister Souljah's THE COLDEST WINTER EVER (5 stars for that one). Anyway I thought the storyline was better than VC Andrew's other novels i.e. Ruby, Heaven, Dawn, Melody... For once VC Andrews's(ghostwriter) made the main character an African-American female. I like the character Rain because unlike the other main character's in VC Andrews's other stories, Rain speaks her mind. I have one question though? In Rain's case...I would never want a relationship with a man that I grew up with as my blood brother and found out later on he wasn't. I would still think of him as a brother. That's repulsive! I get the Heebie Jeebie's just thinking about Roy and Rain. That's VC Andrews for you...the more incest the better. Either way this book was excellent and I'm on page 5 of LIGHTNING STRIKES the second novel in the Hudson series.
Rating: Summary: Very Fast Read Review: I had not read a V.C. Andrews book in years, but I am glad I read this one. This was a great book. I liked how Rain became very successful at her new school. I kept thinking something bad was going to happen, but it was more about how this young girl from the ghetto was able to survive in any environment that she is put in. I liked how she developed such a great relationship with her grandmother. Once I started reading this book, I had a hard time putting it down. As soon as I finished this one, I went out and bought the next one in the series. I hope that one is as good as "Rain".
Rating: Summary: Rags to riches or vice versa Review: Growing up in the projects is hard for Rain and her family. Gang memebers run the streets. If your not careful in that neighborhood the gang memebers will run your life also. For Rain to find out that she is really adopted and that her real mother's family is extremly rich and on top of all that she was given to the people she knows as her parnets for twenty thousand dollars. Under the circustances of her life Rain is forced to go live with these people who paid to get rid of her so many years ago.
Rating: Summary: A Cliche Andrews/Ghostwriter Soap Opera Review: I admit the V.C. Andrews/Ghostwriter series do hold one's interest. The books are like cotton candy -- appealing to look at, but leaving little of substance. The formulaic Andrews is as follows: 1) Shadowy, sinister adult females 2) Protagonist is always a young female with an artistic talent (in Rain's case, acting) 3) Sooner or later the protagonist has sexual relationships prior to reaching adulthood 4) a plethora of nature related metaphors 5) a stupid expression in the books that has come to irk me personally -- "putaway heart" 6) Twins appear in most of the Andrews/GW books 7) Incestuous relationships between brother & sister, or people raised as brother and sister -- (Cathy & Chis), (Dawn & Jimmy), (Heaven & Tom -- luckily they didn't take their relationship to a sexual level), (Ruby & Paul) and now Rain and Roy. Cliche. I agree with a previous reviewer who expressed disappointment in this book. Add mine as well.
Rating: Summary: You Go Girl! Review: Rain was a breath of fresh air. Finally a sista is making its mark in the VC Andrew's world. I had only one problem with this book. All black women do not get beat by their husbands, not all black people stay in the ghetto, or work meaningless low paying jobs or get killed by gang members. Those problems are universal in the 2K. I felt the love that Rain's "mother" felt for her. I felt this book because the feelings in was true. If you ever in your life felt lost, VC Andrews and the ghost writer, can bring you home. I read this book in 1 day. Like all her books I can read over and over again. Even though Ms. Andrews has past on, she has left a legacy behind. Thank You. And to tomcasteel, do you really think your a fan? How can you say that the characters were undeveloped? Is it because some of them were black. This series is up there with Ruby, Heaven, and Dawn. I agree with one thing, nobody can touch Ms. Cathy from Flowers in the Attic. Maybe you should read it again.
Rating: Summary: My review for "Rain" By V.C Andrews. Review: "Rain" a refreshenly new twist on past series that V.C. Andrews has published was very exciting. I found it to be very cultavating. I was unable to put it down. It showed how dramatic the opposite side of the tracks can be, with realistic results. In turn it also showed how cold and indifferent the upperclass can be. After reading this noval I had a new outlook on the importance of teaching your children the value of family.
Rating: Summary: Rain is wonderful Review: Everyone talks about Andrew's style in other reviews but if your like me, you never read any of Andrew's books until a friend recommended it. I had never read a V.C. Andrew's book until I picked up Rain. I love books and read everything. Rain kept me captivated and enthralled. I didn't like to put down the book to go to class. In every new situation you wondered what she was going to do. Even more so after she moved in with her grandmother. Rain is who everyone would like to be like that have been in difficult situations. She is proud, but not to proud, she has courage, a heart, and is very compassionate. She holds her head up, and looks the world in the face. She would do anything for someone she cares about, she proved that in the book. V.C. Andrews did a wonderful job on portraying Rain in the book. This book was great and I can't wait for the next one in the series.
Rating: Summary: Dawn's altar ego Review: Who ever VCA's ghost writer is should give up his day job. All he does is write the same thing over and over again. Some lovely young thing finds out that she is not part of her family. Hence the reason she is so smart easy going and pretty. Ms.Lovely now moves in with her rich but evil family who treats her like red headed stepchild(Sorry Ruby). Lovely has no backbones and rolls over and cry and bemoans her fate. Lovely sleeps with the first guy who looks her way. Mr.Sexy as it truns out is only using her. Either her brother or the boy whom she believed to be her brother is the only man for her. Mean ugly and slighty nutty sister, aunt, grandmother strives to break them up. She has a child and then she dies. We follow the life of her even more Lovely daughter who has even less of a back bone. You can be sure some where in the background Rain's daughter who will probably be named Tsumani will have an crazy uncle lusting after her. But wait there's a prequle with a Lovely sister who daddy loves and an ugly shrew who daddy hates. Why must me put up with five more books in this line(Eye of the storm, Flash flood, Thrunder rolls or titles close to these) don't we know how it's going to end?
Rating: Summary: Happiness is... Review: I have read V.C. Andrews works since I was young. I own every last one of her books and anticipate the moment when a new book hits the shelf. Believe me I'm there waiting. Her older books are truly her best, however I still enjoy reading them as they come out, even after many years. Her newest book Rain was quite surprising and somewhat different than her others. I waited throughout the book for the grandmother to be pschotic, I held my breath everytime she turned a corner in that large house, and worridly worked the pages of my book waiting for some sign of evil. Yet, is it true? Could it be that in the standard formula of V.C. Andrews' books something went horribly wrong? For there wasn't a hint of bad in that feisty old woman, then in the ending (not to give much away though), It actually brought a smile to my lips and once again I wait for the sequel with as much anticipation as ever. Different? yes. Hwever surprisingly good for the first happy V.C. Andrews' book i have ever managed to read.
