Summary: Typical Evan Hunter... awesome!
Review: Nothing short of what you'd expect from Evan Hunter/Ed McBain. He's an incredible author and this is yet another book attesting to that fact.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Simply Wonderful
Review: Simple---NOT, Wonderful--ABSOLUTELY!! As a long time fan of Evan Hunter/Ed McBain I expected no less from him. No matter what alias he uses, no matter what subject matter he injects into the story lines, no matter----anything----I find all of his works to be attention grabbers and keepers and well worth the read. 'The Moment She Was Gone' not only brought immense entertainment for the addicted Hunter/McBain part of my brain it also brought forth understanding and empathy. I can always expect some form of emotion with Hunter/McBain novels and this one exceeded those expectations because of the subject matter. Thank you Evan Hunter!! You are THE best baby!!! ;)

Now bring on the next!!

Summary: Psychology + love + family= a dark journey
Review: The Moment She Was Gone is a departure of sorts for Mr. Hunter. For one, this is not a mystery. If you want a mystery, look for it under "Ed McBain." Instead, this is a compact story dealing with loyalty, love and trying to understand something well beyond your grasp.

Andrew Gulliver has known his sister, Annie, has delt with "problems" all of her life. Upon her most recent disappearance, the reader is taken through the past history of a brother's unconditional love and support for the troubled Annie. Andrew is possibly loyal to a fault, not wanting to accept the range and depths of Annie's demons.

Mr. Hunter conducted extensive research on the type of insidious, evolving delusions that haunt the free-spirited Annie and the writing shows it. The reader is drawn into Annie's surreal world, jumping back and forth with that of her level-headed brother.

Perhaps we once knew someone like Annie. A free spirited college girl with some odd, intermittent spells of detachment and a tendency for exaggeration. Perhaps there was a hint of something deeper and darker, something we felt easier to ignore and chalk up to youth and a vivid imagination.

This book explores Annie's painful descent as these seemingly inncocent quirks gradually take over her life and challenge the limits of a brother's love. Even if the reader never knew someone like Annie, by the end of the story, it will seem like you did.

Summary: The Master At His Best!
Review: The Moment She Was Gone is a wonderful book. It is so clear and pure and fresh it's like a drink of spring water on a hot summer day. Andy Gulliver is frantic with worry about his twin sister Annie. She's missing and he is going to find her come hell or high water. His mother and brother and sister in law all seem to be in denial...as is Andy. For Annie is one sweet, sensuous and seriously disturbed young woman. The Moment she Was Gone is an amazing glimpse into the despair of a loved one who thinks he's done his best...

Summary: Powerful Book
Review: This book is a powerful and somewhat jarring look at schizophrenia and how it affects people. The book is well worth reading. It is not lightweight stuff at all, so you should not purchase it thinking you are getting a detective story. This book will make you think.

Summary: great book!!
Review: this book is not a mystery !
This book is a EVAN HUNTER at the best !

Summary: Wonderful--I couldn't put it down!
Review: This is a wonderful novel. It tackles schizophrenia and its effects on an individual, as well as a family. I also found the interaction between family members to actually be very familiar. Hunter does an amazing job of painting the family dynamics here. The mother and brother who think they are doing the right thing for their daughter/sister, when in reality they are prolonging her suffering. Also, their own reasons for acting the way they do are fascinating; while they profess, and maybe actually believe, that they are helping her, they do in fact have motives of their own for not seeing that she get treatment. Overall, a fascinating study of a family that you will not be able to put down.
