Rating: Summary: A Masterpiece Review: "Standing for Something" is a masterpiece. Hinckley not only writes amazingly well, but what he has to say is truly amazing. While others focus pessimistically on many of the problems of society, Hinckley shares proven solutions that anyone can implement. A must read for all those willing to make a difference in the world.
Rating: Summary: Powerful Message Review: At a time when many look to the government for help it is refreshing to see there are those who still believe that happiness comes from within. I for one believe the message found in this wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: One of the best books I have ever read! I couldn't put it down, and I felt uplifted every time I read it. Try it!
Rating: Summary: Give the words in this book a few hours of your time... Review: ...and the words just might find their way to your heart. I remember portions of this book in the most stressful moments. Then I am reminded of the more important priorities in my life, and perhaps even what I should be doing instead of what I am doing in that useless wasteful moment.
Rating: Summary: MASTERPIECE FOR CLEANSING THE MIND OF ROTTEN INPUT Review: This book is so enlightening. So many are so brainwashed. As Gordon Hinckley says in his book, "Negativism sells." The cure: "accentuate the positive" instead. This is just one example of the many solutions to common marital problems, parental dilemmas, co-worker and employee conflicts found in President Hinckley's book. I appreciate President Hinckley's courage to rebuke and his sense of humor. What a great man. This is a must purchase for all who care about being and doing good. It's a keeper to refer back to as well.
Rating: Summary: A BOOK OF HOPE FOR OUR NATION Review: This is a wonderful book. Easy to read, but full of wisdom. The ten virtues are scripture based, but are really just common sense. The author uses quotes from the Bible and great literary works to get his point across. Most enjoyable were the stories from his childhood and years as an ecclesiastical leader. This book gives you hope for our families and our nation.
Rating: Summary: Simple Read. Along the lines of Bennett's Virtues Review: This book reminds me of Bennett's Book of Virtues. Easily read in a few sittings. Excellent aggregation of facts and stories. A must read for all who believe in the divine nature of the human spirit and a higher authority to whom we all must make an accounting. Hinckley shows himself to be among the top moralists of the decade. I would like to see more books in this genre from Schuller, Bennett, Hinckley, etc. Great pick-me up.
Rating: Summary: Standing for Something Review: While reading this book, I kept thinking that if everyone in the world would read this book, the world would be a completely different place. It is excellent!
Rating: Summary: This Book Can Change America...For Good Review: I just received this book and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I enjoy it because these things are true. It has made me want to be a better person, a better neighbor, a better citizen.
Rating: Summary: "Virtues" gives a voice to what we've known all along Review: Gordon B. Hinckley stands for something, and his illustrations of neglected virtues should not only be read, but studied. The plan outlined in its pages speak of love, honor, integrity and all things positive. As quickly as Hinckley's book has climbed the best-seller list, it is obvious he has struck a deep and resonant chord, giving voice to values that many have long held dear. It invites the reader to not only proclaim, but to also live these virtues, and know that our voices will be joined by an enthusiastic chorus of fellow lovers of virtue. In a time when seemingly every newscast or article takes its audience to new depths, Gordon Hinckley allows that there is still a higher road that can and should be traveled, and invites the reader to join him in that journey. I'm packed and ready to go with him.
