Summary: Tormented hero, repressed heroine, evil plots galore,WOW!
Review: Do you love intense, tormented, yet honorable heroes? Do you enjoy stories full of passionate motives, plots, daring actions, deceptions, and self-sacrifice? Do you like your heroine complex?

This is the romance for you!

Ash is irresistibly tough, vulnerably loving. His father--a spawn of hell--is a force to be reckoned with (and do I want to see him get his comeuppance!). He can't always do what he feels is the moral thing to do, or the kind thing, but he tries to do what is right, despite the odds.

Rhiannon is suppressing a horrid past. Haunted by nightmares, trying to be a woman she thinks she should be to attain "a safe life", she is nevertheless drawn to this dangerous, passionate, similarly haunted man--Ash Merrick.

The sexual tension is combustible. The prose is impeccable and lyrical. The plot is smart and fast.

A rivetting read. It's going to take three books to work out the complexities of the machinations in this romantic suspense trilogy, but what a ride! As eager as I am to see the culmination, I know I'll regret reading that last page.

Wonderful work, Ms. Brockway. Do I see another RITA in the future?

Summary: Hot, heartbreaking, and ultimately satisfying
Review: Don't you hate it when you love a book this much? You know the feeling: you're in the mood for the mindless diversion of a good ol' bodice-ripper; you're hoping for one well-written enough that it won't insult your intelligence, but you're not planning to get...involved. In other words, you want a literary one-night-stand. But instead you find yourself drawn into an achingly tense, emotional drama. And you have to work the next day, but no way are you going to stop reading before all this anguish is resolved. It's exhausting! On the upside, I've found one more romance author to add to my short list of "must-read" writers. I tried Connie Brockway because I'm a huge fan of Christina Dodd, and had just finished reading the book they co-wrote, "Once Upon A Pillow." These authors share a talent for creating deliciously sexy anti-heros (men you want to slap and comfort at the same time); strong, surprising heroines; sustained sexual tension; and plotlines that can build to such a painful degree of emotional suspense that I sometimes sneak a glance at the last page - just to assure myself that I can relax and enjoy the book without despairing over the ending. Dodd tends to throw in some sly humor to lighten the tension, as did Brockway in "My Dearest Enemy," which I read previously. This first book in the McClairen's Isle trilogy didn't offer any laughs to offset the tears. Nevertheless, I loved the book and can't wait for the other two. As with movies, there's always a place for a tear-jerker. By the way, Ash sizzles! (Sorry about the pun.)

Summary: This book swept me away!
Review: Everytime I read one of Connie Brockway's books, she transports me to a new world, and this time she took me into a story set in Scotland, one of my favorite places. Talk about romance! This is the first of a trilogy, and I can't wait to read the others. Oh, and the villain is so great, he made me writhe and laugh at the same time.

Summary: The Passionate One
Review: Excellent book! I was a little thrown at first but got into it with each page! Most times i find myself skipping words, paragraphs even but not with this one! I was so excited for so much to of happened when I was only half way through the book! I couldnt wait to read on and didnt want it to end! The sample of THE RECKLESS ONE was mean! Now Im dying to get my hands on that one as well! Definely a fan of Connie's now!

Summary: Beautiful love story!!
Review: I bought this book, because for starters, my daughters name is Ashton, and secondly because I love anything written in Scotland back in the day. This book was soo wonderful. Ash was for sure a passionate man and Lord, I just fell in love with his character! I found myself wondering throughout the book how CB had managed to make him so passionate and loving, yet so tough and strong. I felt like I was there, going through it all with Rhiannon and Ash. I would recommend this book to anyone and everyone!!!! Now on to Raine's story, The Reckless One!!

Summary: Love to live and die for
Review: I breathe and live romance novels and go through them like water. It's rare for me to write a review for them, mostly because other readers usually do an accurate ableit sometimes dissenting job of describing the books. However, I feel compelled to add my heart-felt commentary to the others, for this book has moved me like not too many other books have. The love story between Ash and Rhiannon is no ordinary romance. It is a story about extraordinary characters in extraordinary circumstances that come to share and grow in overcoming their fears, inhibitions, and tragedies through new found love and courage. No characters have moved me more for their complexity, vulnerability, and strength than Ash (except maybe for Jamie from Outlander). A true epitome of passion, love, and sacrifice, in addition to being a rogue of course. This book is exciting, unpredictable(a very rare quality in romance genre), rife with passion and love worth living and dying for. Good to the very last drop. I loved it!!! Thank you Connie for such a treasure!

Summary: A sweep-you-away read!
Review: I brought this book along on a road trip and it is a fantastic read. Love the gothic overtones, the eerie father and the determined hero. A great book from one of my favorite authors.

Summary: Intense!
Review: I enjoyed this book because the two main characters were both good at heart. The drama was quite intense and the story had a lot of suspense to keep the pages turning. However, I never felt the characters connect in the way I felt they should. And there were too many loose ends that should have been wrapped-up. I realize that maybe some of those loose ends will be explained in the next two books of this series, but I felt that the book just came to an abrupt stop without giving any indication as to why. Overall, if you like tormented heroes this is a book for you.
