Summary: Congress v. President
Review: Here is an intelligently written scenario about a serious conflict between a hawkish (probably Republican) Speaker of the House versus a dovish (probably Democratic) President. The reason for this conflict is a terrorist attack against an American Flagged Merchant Ship and how the United States should react to it. The author really excels in his ability to present both sides of a constitutional debate convincingly: Should the U.S. or a Foreign Power retaliate? The dialogue between characters is smart and compelling. You will appreciate how the Military reacts to this "No-Win" confrontation between two powerful factions of Government. And you will get an entertaining history lesson, too! But the ending! I was too angry at "George Washington" to readily accept the ending of this book, thus my rating of only 3 stars.

Summary: Tightly-plotted, well-developed characters; satisfying.
Review: Huston clearly knows his stuff, weaving his experience as a military pilot and an attorney into an intriguing story. Discriminating readers who demand both suspense and an intelligent storyline with believable characters will find the book an exhilarating read. The publisher would do well to make more of Huston's work available soon.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Exciting, a great summer read
Review: Huston's characters are real and easy to relate to. The plot is exciting, causing you to turn the pages quickly to see what will happen next. It is a refreshing change from Clancy's techno-jargon while still delivering an informative and well researched story. I highly recommend it and am looking forward to his next effort!

Summary: I enjoyed this book a lot.
Review: I also recommend Bob Mayer's special forces books. I got hooked on them with DRAGON SIM-13 years ago and have enjoyed all of them since. I think the fact that Mayer had a small publiher-- Presidio-- instead of a big NY house might have kept him from reaching the heights some of the other military thriller authors reached. Regardless, you're in for a treat with his books.

Summary: Good plot, but a waste
Review: I bought the book, hoping it would be an interesting summer read. It had a great premise, a battle between Congress and the President, so the timeliness was attractive. Unfortunately, the action was anti-climactic, both on the political and on the military side. Characters were not well thought out, and could easily be lost in the shuffle. In the end, it was unsatisfying, and I missed the money I had dropped on buying it.

Summary: A good debut novel.
Review: I enjoyed this first novel. Interesing premise to base the story upon. I also recommend if you like military/political thrillers THE LINE and THE GATE by McGuire. Also his latest under a different pen name Joe Dalton (why?) THE OMEGA MISSILE.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Sorry but not interested......
Review: I found the entire book to be predictable and uninteresting. I am a huge fan of adventure/military fiction, but this one, unfortunately right after I read rainbow 6 (another loser) makes me reconsider. Try Cobb - Sea Strike instead or Steven Hunter.

Summary: A wonderful look at how our Constitution functions!!
Review: I found this book to be a first rate introduction to how our Constitution functions in the modern world. I was captured by the focused attention of how our three branches of government interact. This book is the best example that I have found of a fast paced and interesting analysis of the federal government. I teach a course for seniors on U.S. Government and we will be using this book in the new school year as a new way to show our students the relevance of the U.S. Constitution to our world today.

Summary: Try This One On For Size
Review: I just finished the book. I found it to be very, very interesting and entertaining. Huston, to me, writes in a way that is a combination of Clancy and Grisham. If you like either one I think you will like this. The story of Dillon, the Speaker, the President in their Washington setting is good but it escalates with the addition of the terrorists. Add to that the battle group led by Admiral Billings and all of his ideas, thoughts and manpower and you have quite a saga. Dillons side story with his friends and rivals is also good, as is the battle between attorneys Gray and Pendleton and you have a winner. But, do you really? As you will see this story will have you going up,down, and sideways. I read The Price of Power 1st. Try them both.
