Rating: Summary: No, it's not the Ya Ya's, but worthy of picking up. Review: I understand where the Ya Ya comparisons come from, but this book is in it's own league. It isn't as up beat as Divine Secrets, but it is far more real. These people live and breathe, and yes, some are crazy. It is a wonderful book, full of love, life and death. The way it touches on deeper subjects such as racism and the sixties anti-war movement is great. It makes the reader realize how much a part of every day life these things were without preaching. Michael West does a great job.
Rating: Summary: An extraordinary book by an extraordinary author! Review: I read this a while ago and have given it to everyone I know to read since. What a gem! Of course anything Michael Lee West writes is GOLD! Like many others I went to this book because of Amazon's comparisons to The Ya-Ya Sisterhood but this book, and all the rest of hers, are in a different league! I loved the Ya-Yas but Michael Lee West has a much more mature, careful and fully realized writing style. Her characters are ALIVE!
Rating: Summary: Check this one out! Review: This was a great story ... I couldn't put the book down. A story of a family of women who can't seem to get what they think they want out of life. I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: Awful, Awful, Awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: This book was awful. I bought this book because it was being compared to Divine Secrets. This book doesn't even come close. I found none of characters likeable. In fact, they irritated me. Crazy Ladies does not even deserve one star.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't even come close to the hype. Review: If I could have rated it a half a star, I would have. The book started out with some interesting characters and some good ideas but took them nowhere. There was nothing to grab onto, nothing to care about. A huge disappointment and a waste of precious reading time.
Rating: Summary: This book was soo good, I hope for a sequel! Review: "Crazy Ladies" was a great read!!!!! It starts with Gussie when she was 18 and the mother of Dorothy. Gussie later gives birth to Clancy Jane. Clancy was Gussie's favorite because Dorothy was always an evil child. Later in the book comes Bitsy, Mack, Violet and DeDe. These women all tell the story in their own words, and believe me, it's great!!!!! Life, death, the works!!!!!
Rating: Summary: This was not a very good book. I was very disappointed. Review: I read this book because I had recently read The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. Reviews at Amazon.com suggested that Crazy Ladies was even better than the Ya-Ya book. This was not so. This book was mediocre at best and a big waste of time. The book is one catoastrophe after another. I didn't like any of the characters one iota. I do not recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Better than Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood! Review: How could I feel so good reading a book where so many bad things happen? (Lots of smiles & laughs!) Because of the way it is written! I thought it was a very good book and didn't want to put it down! I think it's better than American Pie, another West book.
Rating: Summary: My latest Favorite! Review: A wonderful read. I throughly enjoyed every moment and recommended it to all my friends!
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT!!!!! Review: I was moved by this book. Each chapter is told by one of the crazy women and their voices are sharp, sad, funny. Its fun to listen to them. I loved it.
