Rating: Summary: Treacherous Review: This is my first & last Faye Kellerman book. I had to force myself to finish it hoping it would get better. The dialoug between the characters was horrendous. I felt like I was reading a "B" movie. I never thought that characters in a book could be so fake. I read a lot and I have to say this is the worst book I've read yet. I DO NOT recommend this.
Rating: Summary: Stalker Review: This was my first Faye Kellerman book. The story line was fast and full of action. I read, Sue Grafton and Janet Evanovich, I think Faye Kellerman is right up there. I couldn't put it down once I started and finished in 2 days.
Rating: Summary: What a great story Review: The last person who wrote a review said they didn't like the book because the main character was stubborn and it ruined the story. I totally disagree! Cindy was stubborn in her ways, but she's like her father and lots of people are like that. It was very realistic. If you like mystery summer reading with a little romance and a lot of detective work, you will like this book. I am a very picky reader, if a book doesn't interest me in the first few pages then forget about it. But this one grabs you and doesn't let go until the end.
Rating: Summary: Kellerman - consistently good! Review: Like the other Faye Kellerman books I have read, this one is a good, solid crime thriller. Unlike her other Decker/Lazarus books, Peter Decker takes a secondary role to his daughter Cindy, a rookie policewoman in the Hollywood district who is being - yes, you guessed it - stalked. But by whom? and Why? As a series of new crimes reopens a year-old, unsolved case, Cindy's world in the Hollywood PD collides with her fathers new cases in nearby suburbs. Carjackings, murder, adultery, fraud - and several theories on suspects and motives leaves Cindy suspecting everyone in her life including her colleagues at the Police Department. I didn't have it figured out until the very end. Wonderful suspense!
Rating: Summary: Good but...... Review: This was my first book by Faye Kellerman and Stalker was good but Cindy's personality kind of ruined the story she was so stubborn in her ways and it ruined it. Overall i guess it was an okay book but i am not planning to buy another book by Faye Kellerman.
Rating: Summary: Only tolerable if you've read Kellerman before.... Review: If you've kept up with Faye Kellerman's Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus series before, you might've been, like me, excited to read a book focusing on a new character, Peter's daughter Cindy. Unfortunately, Cindy's reckless, stubborn, and often defiantly stupid judgment throughout the book obscures the somewhat convoluted plot and frankly leaves you partially rooting for her stalker to get her, if only to teach her a lesson for her continuously foolish actions. Kellerman, through various characters, reiterates often that Cindy is an Ivy-League educated cop; I don't care if she never graduated from the 6th grade, her problem here is not intelligence but a dearth of common sense. The most blatant example of this is the fact that as the stalker's actions escalate, Cindy's decision is to attempt to determine his/her identity on her own, rather than rely on or trust the multi-decade experience of her father and his colleagues. Add to that a reduction of Peter's character to obsessive father figure (although based on Cindy's behavior, you can't blame the guy) and Rina's limited role and overall, you have at best a slightly suspenseful but very frustrating book. If you've never read Kellerman before, please DO NOT start with this book; it will leave you with the wrong impression of her skills. The Decker/Lazarus series is quite good. This book is only tolerable because you know Kellerman has produced much better work in the past and will hopefully do so in the future.
Rating: Summary: Not the best in the series, but interesting Review: I have all of the novels in the series and it has been intresting to see the characters develop over time. I liked this novel as an addtion to the series so I could see what has been happening but I do not think I would have enjoyed it as much as a stand alone novel without the previous background information. I will continue to but her books but would recommend to first time readers to start from the first book.
Rating: Summary: Stalker Faye Kellerman Review: I was disappointed in this book. Having read "Jupiter.s bones" I found little of the same tension and exitement in "The Stalker". Cindy was a boring character.I'm glad I bought my book through your Auction. Sincerely, Ellen from Camas, Wa.
Rating: Summary: Powerful Begining And A Strong Ending Review: Faye Kellerman is an excellent storyteller, but that isn't all this book has going for it. There are three intertwined mysteries that are very well plotted and plenty of action, including a breathtaking car chase. The dialog is snappy and believable. The majority of the characters are well defined. The "bad guy" characters are a little fuzzy, but that may have been intentional. (When the character, Dex Bartholomew was introduced into the story, an image of Ross Perot popped into my head. I wonder if anyone else experienced that.) The story centers around Cynthia Decker, rookie cop, daughter to Peter Decker and stepdaughter to his wife Rina. Cindy isn't easy to like but she is interesting. In fact, she is a gold medal brat for most of the story. Toward the end of the book, when it is obvious where the finger of blame is pointing, the question of how it will be resolved keeps the reader's interest alive. I've read and enjoyed Faye Kellerman's earlier books, but I haven't been keeping up with the series. I think I have three or four of her books in a stack around here somewhere. I'll have to go and find them and do some catching up.
Rating: Summary: Windbag Review: This is the first novel I have read by Faye Kellerman so I might not have started with best. Stalker follows the stories of Cindy Decker, a rookie police officer who is being harrassed and Peter Decker, her police Lieutenant father who is busy trying to protect his daughter and solve a carjacking/murder case simultaneously. The plot of this novel is rather convoluted and the author includes an overwhelming amount of superfluous material which detracts greatly from the pacing of story. Still, I found some passages gripping and the characters well drawn. The plot itself is rather insane but I can forgive that in a thriller. I find the real problem of the book to be the rudimentary writing skills of the author...She does not have a hint of style in her writing nor an ear for dialogue. So, why not keep it short?
