Rating: Summary: shot em up!! Review: I read this book from beginning to end in a couple days. Its is a fast paced book on sub warefare. One thing, I think he may have over played the dominance of the one submarine up against almost the whole china fleet. But as far as a entertaining book goes its great
Rating: Summary: SSN: a dud tin-fish Review: Tom Clancy's "SSN" is a book written around acomputer game. As such, it is terrible trash. Here's theplot: A US Los Angeles-class submarine sinks three quarters of the Chinese navy and one quarter of the Russian navy without suffering a scratch. Here's the dialogue: "Make tubes ready in all respects . . . tubes fired electrically . . . units from tubes running hot, straight and normal . . . two explosions." Repeat, as needed, for about three hundred pages.
Rating: Summary: This is really good!!! Review: This is probably the shortest Clancy novel I have read. It was really good, although it was a little bit unrealistic. I mean, the Chinese and Russian Submariners were either stupid or badly educated or maybe their equipment wasn't that good, but how could the USS Cheyenne (SSN 773) manage to sink more than sixty chinese and russian submarines without getting hurt itself??? On the other hand I liked it very much. It took only a little more than two days to read it
Rating: Summary: Great fun in a Los Angeles class SSN Review: As a big Tom Clancy fan, I enjoyed reading SSN so much that I bought the game. The books was fun; not a lot of character development or background, but it really helped you feel what it would be like on a SSN in the middle of a war. Possibly not as realistic as it should be; 60 + kills without a scratch, but, as an American, there's nothing I like reading more than our guys goin our and kickin some butt
Rating: Summary: Machine Generated Text Review: I bought this book as a reflex, being a fan, only to discover that someone has written a simplistic automatic Clancy text generator. Not only does this book not read like a TC book, it does not appear to have been written by a human of any kind. The absence of plot, character, or even well constructed sentances indicate this was written by a 16 bit WordBasic macro
Rating: Summary: For hard-core Clancy fans only Review: First off, I think it's neccessary to say that SSN is NOT a novel, and doesn't pretend to be. It's basically just a narrative to the game with a few novel-like characteristics thrown in to make it flow better. So, is there ant character development? Not really. But it does show an accurate portrayal of a 688I submarine, even if after a while it seems a bit repetitive. Also I think it was a bit unrealisatic that by the end of the novel the Cheyenne had racked up 60+ kills without a scratch. Still not a tenth as good as clancy's "real" novels. But hey it was OK to read
Rating: Summary: Tom Clancy? Review: When I bought the book, I was expecting a novel, but what
Mr. Clancy wrote was a myriad of experiences that were not
realistic. Writing from a game, where you win on the first
shot at playing is not real life. The novel did not flow like other Clancy novels, the plot was not tied together
well. I expected a "stay in your seat" novel and read, but
I could take a lot of breaks, well, thats the way it is
when you play a game and can save your score. Come on Mr.
Clancy where are you?
Rating: Summary: Top Notch Depiction of Submarine Warfare Review: In Submarine, Tom Clancy showed you the inside of a 688 Class Nuclear Submarine, and now he puts you on the bridge. A must for people who enjoy the subtlties of war strategy
Rating: Summary: Great Review: A look into the intricate world of a United States Los Angeles Class Fast Attack Submarine.
There might not be a lot of character development but he makes up for it by having an incredible, heart stopping war.
When one reads this book they are instantly drawn up into the secret world of the bridge of the USS Cheyene.

Rating: Summary: Reading a game. Yippe:( Review: Granted it's got Clancy's incredible knowledge of submarine warfare (and warfare in general). But it is just shoot, sink; shoot, sink. There's no character or deep plot development at all. So read it if you have the game and need to be more proficient. Not for a good bedtime adventure
