Summary: Boring & Predictable
Review: Horrible Mr Clancy, dull, predictable, repetitive and just an awful poor read. A submarine that takes on five at a time and wins 'em all, all the time? "I don't think so, Tim!" It will be a long time before I pick up another tom clancy novel to read on a trip. I threw this one in the subway trash after enduring the first 2/3. Yuk!

Summary: Super Sub to the Rescue!
Review: Carrier group out of the picture? no problem, send in super sub!

Seas full of enemy subs? no problem, send in super sub!

Russians getting involved? no problem, send in super sub!

No character development? no problem, send in super sub!

No plot development? no problem, send in super sub!

Clancy loosing it in a big way? Maybe there is one thing super sub can't save.

Summary: Boring, predicable
Review: If you like wrestling, Rambo or Superman, you'll like this one. It is Superman in a Submarine. He knows all, conquers all obstacles. The outcome is never in doubt. Repetitious, duplicative, predictable.

Summary: All of my respect for Tom Clancy is completely gone
Review: This book is the equivalent of watching a twelve year-old play a computer game. I bought it in an airport to read on the plane and got more entertainment out of the flight safety card. I'll never read Clancy again until he repays me for this travesty!

Summary: Too much technical detail and jargon
Review: This was the most disappointing Clancy work I have read. The flow was broken by too much incomprehensible technical jargon. The sentence structure was choppy; poor transition.

Summary: Not up to Clancy's standards
Review: This was one of the worst books I have ever read. I think that about sums it up. No character development whatsoever. Even a tiny glimpse into the personality of the faceless enemy would have been welcomed. While I am sure that American submarines are the finest made and manned, I find it implausible that each and every enemy vessel, faced by Cheyenne, was manned by an incompetent crew and led by an equally incompetent captain. If this was intended as a users guide for the compter game, then I was either mistaken or misled when I purchased this book. Storyline...Cheyenne sails, Cheyenne kills multiple enemy vessels, Cheyenne re-arms, Cheyenne sails, Cheyenne kills multiple enemy vessels, Cheyenne re-arms...you get the idea. It's hard to believe that the same author that brought us "Hunt for Red October" had a hand in "crafting" this mess.

Summary: Insight to the Silent Service
Review: "SSN" (ISBN 0-425-17353-4) co-authored by Tom Clancy and Martin Greenberg is an excellent book that gives the reader a fairly accurate picture of the Silent Service. I have the honor of having been an enlisted member of the United States Navy Submarine Service and have served on both fast attack (SSN) and fleet ballistic (SSBN) submarines. The book's story line is plausible, however there are elements that are stretching the capabilities of both ship and crew. "SSN" is a book worth reading for those who which to gain some insight of the personnel who crew the submarines of the world's navies.

Summary: Please sink this...
Review: This gets one star and a torpedo shot through it. I've been reading a lot of submarine stories lately, especially some excellent historical accounts from WW2, and let's just say that Clancy is no Edward Beach (just to use one example). This book is boring, tiresome (one hopes that the game is better), silly, and put me to sleep. Yes, yes, US hunter-killer SSNs are powerful, but this was like a submariner's version of Rambo, one boat taking on a whole enemy navy and destroying all comers with no damage to itself. *boggle* It surprises me to see that the mass market paperback is on the bestseller list; no wonder I'm not a bestseller type of reader, for the most part!

Summary: Different
Review: I my opinion this book is not one of clancy's "normal books" simply different..insted of doing a study of the people(charater study)he talked about how men and sub interact together..It's just like take Red Storm Rising take away every thing except the U.S.S. Ruben James plot any you have SSN..I know that it is not the style that every one likes but I my oppion it is one of his best

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Unbelievable
Review: I've just finished the book and I find it hard to absorb the details. The action was fine but its just that some of the subs like the akula and alfa were supposed to be some of the best around. The way they went down so easily were kind of hard to take.
