Rating: Summary: Delicious!! Review: Dr. Weil and Ms. Daley have written what will be the standard text for the new healthy cuisine that tastes great and makes a positive contribution to ones overall health and well-being. This is not spa food, which I find to be rather bland. It is much more flavorful fare that will satisfy everyone who loves great food. The book is beautifully designed and the recipes are rounded out by Dr. Weil's thoughts on the many joys and health benefits of food. "The Healthy Kitchen" is a "must buy" for all home chefs -- novice to expert.
Rating: Summary: Love this Cookbook! Review: I absolutely love this cookbook. My new year's resolution was to start cooking better. I got tired of walking around the grocery store with all of the sodium, preservative, fat and sugar laden products. Before I found this cookbook, I would rarely stumble on a healthy recipe from a magazine or cookbook that would actually taste good. It was really quite discouraging to learn to cook healthy. There is not a single recipe in this cookbook that I do not like. Everything turns out perfect and the flavors are incredible. It's amazing to me that my husband, who lives for burgers, pizza and red meat, really loves the food from "the Santa Claus dude book" (referring to Dr. Weil). Sure, it takes longer to shop for the ingredients and make the recipes. Instead of grumbling, I use the time to practice mindfulness -- using all of my senses (sight, taste, smell, etc.) to get lost in the process. It relaxes me at the end of a long day. The rewards are a wonderful meal and knowing that I did something positive by choosing to eat healthy.
Rating: Summary: Delicious and nutritious! Review: I bought this book a few weeks ago and have already made many of the recipes. The Vegetable Wontons are excellent - and I loved the Baked Pressed Tofu with Greens! The book is nicely laid out - beautiful pictures, a good selection of recipes, nutrition information with each recipe - plus generous health tips throughout the book.
Rating: Summary: Daley Doesn't Do It Again Review: I can't believe I bought her second book. I should have known after her first book, where I only made 2 recipes, that this new book would be useless as well. Get real. Most of us don't like all that fancy food. This isn't usefull for me and my family and the way we eat and live.
Rating: Summary: Great recipes, but many errors and omissions Review: I have made quite a few recipes from this book, and have found mistakes in almost all of them. It's as if nobody tested the recipes before the book was published. In one recipe the cooking time had to be almost doubled, in a recipe for muffins there was no mention of using any liquid (juice, milk, oil, etc.) to bind the ingredients together, and a recipe that was supposed to serve 6 people called for using 12 avocados. I have had to adapt most of the recipes because of this problem. I also found that the directions for preparation were sometimes vague. For example, the recipe would say to broil something for 3 minutes, but not tell you if that was total time or on each side. I would have given this book 5 stars if it weren't for the errors. Most of the recipes appealed to me and the commentary by Rosie and Dr. Weil was interesting to read. I suggest that they make corrections and reprint this book.
Rating: Summary: a HUGE disappointment! Review: I have never seen a cookbook with more errors and omissions in it. There are missing instructions and the spices are completely out of balance on every recipe I have tried. Clearly there was too much time spent on the presentation (pretty photos and layout) and not enough on the substance. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Good Stuff! Review: I just ordered the book online, but I have been in the book store, looked through the book and liked the Dr. Weil's tips and wisdom portion. I've lost 40 pounds since Aug 2001 just eating right, but for me, the greatest breakthrough was reading a book called Journey Into Power by Baron Baptiste. This book changed my mindset and gave me a whole new personal philosophy toward food, fitness and authentic health. Dr. Weil's new book was a great supplement to Baron Baptiste's book. Focus on eating right and trying to move and meditate more...you'll feel better about yourself.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: I liked this book okay! I bought it after I read the book "Breaking the Pattern" by Charles Platkin...that book was acutally what inspired me to eat healthily. This book is great once you make the decision though.
Rating: Summary: This book is Fantastic Review: I love this book. It's got fantastic pictures, it's informative, enjoyable to read and the recipes have been great. I did have to tweak the Greek Salad with Mild Chili dressing...it was a bit too mild. But otherwise all the recipes have been very well received by my family. The vegetable won tons are so yummy....addictive too. This book is what my Mom got for Mother's Day and I'd be happy to give it as a gift to other health conscience friends who enjoy good food.
Rating: Summary: Yum, Yum Review: I love this cook book. I have not cooked a single thing in it that my family and I did not find delicious (especially the vegetable pancakes). I love all the helpful health information Dr. Weil offers. What an awesome addition this book has been to my kitchen.
