Rating: Summary: my review Review: Val loses her lover, but in the healing process, is able to discover her true love. She is also forced to face her past, and in doing so, set herself free to meet her destiny. The story is interesting, you cannot predict the end until the last page, and the places you "visit" are very interesting and varied. The characters are also very real and appealing. Interesting and pleasant to book to read during a winter day.
Rating: Summary: BOOOOOOOOOOOring Review: Awful! Money down the drain! I was not impressed at all by this book. The main character was very shallow. The plot was very repetitive and with no point. It seems that the author didn't know how to develop the story, instead she just kept repeating many times how the character was mistreated by her mother...I felt no compassion for the heroin. As for the love story , it was very unreal without any emotion whatsoever. Basically, there was really no point ot this story..I just read it for the sake of reading it and putting it away, once I had started. Definatly, a very pointless read!
Rating: Summary: Wish I Had Seen the Amazon.com Rating Review: I wish I had seen the bad reviews on Amazon.com before I bought this book from a hotel convenience store. The parts of the book are labeled "A Matter of Integrity," "The Value of Truth," and "A Question of Trust". It sounds like she is aiming high, but she addresses every one of these themes in a worn-out, shallow way. But she never fails to describe what the narrator is wearing. A subplot about a helpless French girl escaping from her violent husband never adds to the story, and ends anticlimactically. Meanwhile, the narrator goes on and on about how she was victimized by her mother, without ever telling us anything that would really make us feel sympathy for her.
Rating: Summary: Draggy and disappointing Review: Too good of an author to put out material like this.
Rating: Summary: One of the worst that I have read Review: I have read many of BTB's books, but I must say that this is the worst of them all. The little summary on the sleeve of the book suggested that there was so much more to be expected - with mentions of going from a burnt-out war photographer to a fashion photographer. Alas! The only mention in the book about any fashion shoot is when the heroine was offered the job by her boss. There was not even a single mention about the shoots themselves.... And that's only one example of the many, false impressions that I got. The book is divided into three sections, and it might as well be three different books. The story didn't flow, there wasn't any climax at all, and the heroine seems confused, weak and indecisive. She is attracted to three men in all. It's the third, a world-famous artist, whom I question his existence in the book, as he is just someone whom she takes photos for. They have a brief kiss, and she tells herself that she has already made a commitment to her boyfriend/lover. You sense some wavering here, but she returns to her boyfriend/lover, without much ado. This is not a book that can be bought and re-read over and over again. Certainly, I made a mistake when I borrowed it from my library. Don't waste your money. In my opinion, BTB's best showing is the Woman of Substance trilogy. Fantastic.
Rating: Summary: WORST READ IN A LONG TIME... Review: I hadn't read a BTB in quite a while, but picked this one up off the library rental shelf for $.10 a day. I kept it for 2 days and felt that $.20 was overpaying for the torture of making myself read to the end. This book is terrible! It is one of the worst books I have come across in a long time. Do NOT waste your time or money on this one!!!
Rating: Summary: Very Disappointed Review: I have read all of BTB's books. I was very, very disappointed in this book. As with so many other devoted BTB fans, I felt that I should finish the book. I kept thinking it would get better. It never did. Thank goodness I did not buy this book.
Rating: Summary: A great audio Review: Valentine Denningan is an American photojournalist. She has been sent to Kosovo with two colleagues, Tony Hampton (British lover) and Jake Newburg (American friend). Once there tragedy occurs and Tony Hampton is killed. At the funeral Val finds that Tony's life is not what she had been told, by him, that it was. It opens a Pandora's box of lies, deceit, secrets and pain. And if this isn't enough, she has to deal with phone calls from an obnoxious brother who is begging her to come home to America and visit the ailing mother who never loved her. He reasons for bothering her are purely selfish; his only worry is the will. It's more than a love story; it's about relationships of all kinds: lovers, family, friends, associates, etc. The author leaves no stone un-turned with her characters and their directions in the story are limitless, it's astounding. For me just when I thought I had the jest of the tale, and said, "Oh, I know, this is going to happen...." Surprise! The author throws an unexpected curve. I love it when that happens! I chose to listen to the audio version of Where You Belong, and was pleased by the reader. She did a good job.
Rating: Summary: The book for martyrs Review: This is what I call myself after having gone through the ordeal of reading this book to the end. I kept on thinking that somehow, out of respect, I owed it to Barbara Taylor to finish reading it. I prayed for a miracle good ending, and was rewarded when I finally did finish this "junk". I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
Rating: Summary: A boring read. Review: After forcing myself to read BTB's book to the end, I realized that I had been duped into buying it because of her name. No one did her a favor at her publishing house. I kept wanting to pick up a pencil and edit the 356 page book down to approximately 150 pages. Believe me, there was very little substance to this book, if any. The waste was immense, from the very weak plot to the totally uninteresting character development. The conversations between the main characters very rarely brought the plot forward, and it seemed to me that the over-long descriptions of the flora and fauna and lunch and dinner preparations were put in the book simply to make it novel-sized. It skipped all over the place, and the addition of a new romance at the very end was ludicrous. I kept hoping for some answers to the subplots she introduced, but there were none. Bradford should be ashamed of this one. The writing was lazy, put there to fill pages, and I actually paid full price for it. That will teach me - next time I'll check out Amazon.com customer comments. It's rare for me to toss a hardcover book, but this one is already in the trash.
