Rating: Summary: This Book was not worth the money Review: This book has two sides one it tells you more about secret Imperil backgrounds But its tooooooo! slow nothing happes I even skipped a few pages and it's still the same thing going!!
Rating: Summary: Hambly finds herself out of her element Review: This book goes to show that NOT everyone has the ability to write a Star Wars novel, and it is a talent best left to those who know what they are doing. Hambly has absolutely no idea where to go with this story, so it wanders around and never really arrives at any destination. This book lacked almost everything a SW fan looks for in a novel, no battles, little in the way of interesting new charactors, no suspense, and no surprises. I read this book because I try to read all of the new novels so I can keep up on the timeline that the various authors try to maintain, however Hambly doesn't seem to contribute anything new to the SW saga, and maybe she should take some time and speak with Timothy Zahn, Kevin Anderson, or some of the other successful authors that have taken great strides to further the adventures of the SW saga and keep readers like me coming back to the bookstore for more. In closing...while I appreciate Hamblys effort, I think she should confine herself to writing in another forum where she may have more experience, and may feel more at ease, because she obviously knows nothing about what SW fans look for in a book.
Rating: Summary: Not exactly Zahn-quality Review: Not exactly the most exciting SW novel. Also, bringing alive a plague that's been dead for a couple thousand years or whatever years? Barbra Hambly has been able to make me never want to visit Nam Chorios. I won't spoil the callista matter for you, but there isn't much to spoil. I only finished it because of my complete devotion to everything that has to do with star wars.
Rating: Summary: Good, But a Little Confusing. Review: This was a pretty good book. The other people say it's bad, but they're wrong. Farther into the book you get a feel on what is going on. The book has a very good plot and it could use a little more action, but it's a good. My favorite part was when Leia has her first lightsaber fight. I think that this book is worth the read, and it's worth spendig you're money on it.
Rating: Summary: good book Review: I believe this book to be a bit strange. you have to get used to the idea of Dyzm and Seti Ashgad. They were not in the original Trilogy, so you must imagine the idea of a droch. Especially a really old one. I found it a bit confusing at first. But all in all I loved it.
Rating: Summary: What can I say? They wouldn't let me give it no stars... Review: This comes from the "What in God's name were they thinking" pile. I can't believe that they actually let this woman write another SW book. In all my years as a Star Wars fan I have never come across a book that I felt actually made me less intelligent by reading it. I started reading this book while in a dentist's waiting room awaiting a root canal. I don't know which one was more painful. Avoid this book at all costs.
Rating: Summary: I wish I could've given it ZERO stars........ Review: Suck, suck, SUCK! Just like her previous book. It was lame to the core, poorly paced, and didn't make ANY sense! How many people think Luke would be such a whiny brat? If you know Luke's character, you would know that he's always ready to help and make a change. He just seemed lethargic and dull. And Callista. If she really loved him, it wouldn't have mattered if she was powerless or not. What the heck happens to Leia? She gets kidnapped....BORING! I can't believe I spent over $20 on a book that SUCKED so bad. Hambly couldn't write worth beans. Stop writing "Star Wars" stuff, lady. Your work is ill-paced, effortless, boring, and shows lack of a developed plot line. I recommend people trash this one.
Rating: Summary: Leia Shines, time passes, but not much else happens Review: This is actually one of the 5 star books, but only if you love Leia Organa Solo. I don't. If you like books that shine on one person, and leave only dribble for the other charcters, then you will like this book. Although this is a good story, I did not think that the balance of charcter involvement was up to par. In fact, at times I did not realize that the author had anything in her mind other then Leia, Leia, Leia! Sience the book was based on Liea their wasn't much else to read. The only other part of the book that could be concidered part of the plot was Luke's quest to find his love, Callista. And that was realy only to keep people from calling this a bibliography rather then a story. As too much detial keeps each chapter feeling like a year has happened, both in the time it took to read this story, and in the story itself, that at times I felt like keeping the book to read so I would not get boored during my retirement. If you want to read all the Star Wars books,! save this one for the twenty year time period that you think you will not mind complete and utter dullness.
Rating: Summary: Hambly Screws Up Again!! Review: This book was just like her other one...she trys to make it more interesting but fails utterly. I disagree with the review that ddeboe@juno.com said about the difference in writing style. The truth is: SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO WRITE A SW BOOK! And if ddeboe was hinting that Kevin Anderson is not a good writer than he/she doesn't know SW from Star Trek. She portrays Luke Skywalker as someone that has just learned to use the Force. I should know, I have read over 30 SW books and most were good. But Barbara Hambly is the most distinquishable black sheep of the flock. From my stand point, she should be removed from the SW writers' list and put in some other writer. The only reason that i gave it 2 stars was that the plot was well built and Leia finally has begun to use the Force. Overall, if you can avoid buying it, do so and borrow it from someone or the library. This is a really boring book that drags out for a long time. But think about what you like.
Rating: Summary: Possibly one of the worst books ever.... Review: The first time I tried to read this book I couldn't get past page 80, it was so awful. Recently I managed to finish it completely, and while the book's plot was not bad, for me it ranks down there with Darksaber. I liked Leia's character in the book, I liked the way Hambly portrayed her in conflict over her parentage and her Jedi abilities, it is the best part of the book. But when I read the ending I was even more disappointed than when I'd first tried to read it. I loved Children of the Jedi, and I loved Callista's character in that and what she brought to Luke. In Darksaber and this book she was basically portrayed as a whiny wuss, and the way she tried to make Leia tell him her reasons for leaving him instead of telling her himself was the worst plot element I've ever seen. And she was supposed to have gotten stronger. Yeah, this was real strong and brave of her--make sister tell him because you're so afraid of him. Give the guy some closure will you girl? When I r! ead the end of COTJ I was happy because Luke finally got the girl, even if it wasn't permanent(I'd still kinda like to see them get together again), and this was the worst way to get rid of her, even though I'm a Callista fan I would rather have had her killed in Luke's arms and her rejoining the Force than see her deal with Luke this way. At least it would have closure, an element this novel was severely lacking in. The second worst Star Wars novel I've ever read, and to be like this it has to be really bad since I generally love all Star Wars books. Hambly, what went wrong? She has dropped downhill a million miles since Children of the Jedi.
