Rating: Summary: Lay of Barbara or else Review: I don't know what everybody is complaining about. I've read many Star Wars books from Zahn to Hambly and I found the book quite enjoyable and recomend it to any Star Wars fan. It was a little slow at first but from there it turned out to be a great book. It had a change of pace from all the other novels. It was very informative and I enjoyed it very much. So lay off Barbara she wrote a novel that I think was just fine.
Rating: Summary: change of pace Review: there have been a lot of negative reviews about this book, but i like how after so many books there is one that is quiter, on a smaller scale, and more fun. the bulk of the book is only centered around a few sqaure kilometers, and you get to enjoy how simple the plot is. i was afraid it was going to be awful after reading children of the jedi(i couldn't even finish it), but it was a gripping novel. now what i said above is what most people didn't like about it, so either buy the paperback when it comes out or go to your library. you may or may not like, depending on your mood/tastes. but if your looking for a rest after invasions, battle fleets, and the galactive senate, then read this book. there is a great side story will han(there are people dying by the millions and war fleets here), and it is a story that gradually becomes more involved. this keeps the book afloat. Did anyone else think the opening line was the greatest opener in the series?
Rating: Summary: Why's everybody complaining? Review: I don't really get why everybody is giving this book such bad reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was better than Barbara Hambly's first attempt, CHILDREN OF THE JEDI, and mcuh better than Vonda McIntyre's THE CRYSTAL STAR. There was one reviewer who said that Ms. Hambly didn't "get" the Star Wars characters. In my opinion, she nailed them...especially C-3PO and R2-D2. The scenes with those two interacting were hilarious, just like in the movies. I was literally laughing out loud. I was very impressed with the way Ms. Hambly depicted Leia's inner conflict with accepting the Force as a part of her since it would also mean accepting Vader as her father. This was very well done and a very interesting look at Leia's character. She also introduced some very cool concepts into this book: the crystals on the planet, Dzym, and the Hutt Jedi were unexpected twists to the Star Wars mythos. What disappointed me most about this book was the fact that Han and Chewie were hardly in it. Only towards the end do we really get a look at them. Other than that, I don't really have any complaints about this book. It was a very well written, well paced book that most Star Wars fans should enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Could be better Review: I enjoyed Children Of The Jedi (Also by Barbara Hambly), but this book was a letdown. Try Specter of the Past, or Jedi Search.
Rating: Summary: Don't Bother Review: I read this book almost a year ago and frankly I can't even remember what happened in it. I'm very glad that I can't remember what happened, this book was horrid. Don't even bother reading it unless you are a huge Star Wars fan and even then you may not want to. All I remember is that I had to force (no pun intended) myself to get through this book and that the whole thing was boring. Spend time reading Zahn's works if you want to enjoy some good Star Wars, because Planet of Twilight is totally lacking.
Rating: Summary: Ack! Shield your eyes from this awful book! Review: When someone writes a Star Wars book, you would think that the book would be about the Star Wars characters. Unfortunately, you're wrong in this case. This book is bad, really bad, with a terrible plot, sappy characters, and a forgetable ending. The reviewers who gave this book 5 stars must be reading something else, because frankly, I can't see it.
Rating: Summary: When will the hurting stop? Review: Please don't plunk down your hard earned money for this. The action sequences (when there were any) were terrible. The plot was pretty improbable, but occasionally I found the plot to be half way decent, kind of like those old B movies. The problem was that some of the characters acted inconsistently, or they failed to act in character. Leia in particular bothered me, she was incredibly indecisive. The way characters interacted was also questionable, and the dialoges were often iffy. Buy The Courtship of Princess Leia, or Heir to the Empire instead.
Rating: Summary: Good book Review: Well, is a good book, is a nice story including the part when Leia accept that she is a jedi and when Luke it's going into his senses.
Rating: Summary: Could be worse. Review: I like the way Barbara gets us close to the characters, especially Luke and Leia (if not Han). Being stranded on a mostly barren planet for a whole novel is kind of different, but the author keeps my interest, none the less. Although this is another in a series that more or less ignores that Leia is President, that she and Han have children, and that Luke runs an Academy, it's a good read for those tired of all-encompasing battles for the galaxy.
Rating: Summary: WOW... Review: What an imagination!I loved it and those who fell asleep... well there's no telling about attention span, you must have had the last drops of the bucket! I congratulate her for daring to do it a different way. It's nice to see that after all of that, Leia is finally a Jedi - though some would refute her the title... I think it's about time.
