Summary: 1 day...
Review: I read this book in one day - New Years day.

It is a page turner that leaves you craving the next sentence. It starts off a little slow, then quickly takes you into the "chase" all throughout Europe. Alcott's descriptions of character and setting take you from reader to fly-on-the-wall. It's escapism at it's best.

If you like suspense, you'll like this book. It is very unpredictable and adventurous. It definitely leaves you satisfied. Warning: it can be addictive - - 1 day!

Summary: Melodramatic, But Still Worth Reading
Review: The title of this book clearly states the plot: an 18-year-old young woman (Rosamond Vivian) is stalked for several years by her 35-year-old ex-lover (Phillip Tempest). The story begins on a tiny island in an unknown region (England, possibly), travels halfway through Europe--from Italy to France, to name a few places--, then comes full-circle back to England(?) for the dramatic ending (which was a little disappointing, I thought). On more than one occasion, I found myself snickering at how cheesy the book was, but for an "old classic", it was pretty entertaining and shocking, especially with the type of conflict not usually seen in Alcott's work, such as bigamy, divorce, and murder--all committed by Phillip with the help of his evil servant (Baptiste), including the murder of Phillip's own son, Lito.

The book was written in August and September of 1866 and mirrored a lot of the places Alcott saw while visiting Europe in 1865. Unfortunately, "A Long Fatal Love Chase" was not published until over a century later, rejected for being "too long and too sensational"--which, in truth, it is. The editor, Kent Bicknell, took the chore of deciphering Alcott's messy handwriting and finished the book for print in the late 1990s, leaving as much of the original story intact. Overall, it turned out pretty well. I would highly recommend this book to Louisa May Alcott fans or fans of historical, romantic fiction.

Summary: Give it a try!
Review: Most of the people don't seem to get the taste of A LONG FATAL LOVE CHASE. It's excellent!!!!! It's about a girl, named Rosamond, who like us wanted freedom. Her wish comes true when a mysterious stranger, Phillip Tempest, comes to her island, and fall in love with her. She loved him as well, and everything was happy for almost an year, until Rose discovers that Tempest really had another wife and a child, LITO(one of my favt character) She then runs away, trying to be free again. She flees to Paris, Germany... etc. She befriend Honorine. And then she flees to asylum, and a priest named IGNATIUS(my favt character!!!), loves her tries to give her a hint not to trust anybody, but at that time she didnt like him very much, and then she feels very bad when Father Dominic betrays her. She will go to Comte's home, and will be happy for sometime, but this chase seems like it never ends! Then Tempest, will bring her home, and make sure she will be happy, but soon after, IGNATIUS, her only friend left comes her takes her with him. They go to Mrs. Tempest, and they will meet LITO again....discover.

Although, Tempest is an antagonist, I like him all the better, cause, he only did for her LOVE. And purly, is the LOVE so strong between ROSE AND IGNATIUS! Although he is a priest, he will like her all the better, goes with the teaching of the great preacher Martin Luther.

Summary: An excellent mystery!!
Review: A Long Fatal Love Chase was interesting because it was just recently published when the author has been deceased so long & also because Ms. Alcott is known for more happy stories like Little Women. I rarely read mysteries but I saw this novel in a used book store and when I saw the author I had to have it and the mystery part really did sound good.My prediction was right. This story of a young woman being stalked around the world by her lover who emotionally abused her was excellent. It showed determination on the character's part & each time I thought I would put it down something else came along so I had to keep reading. It showed another side of Ms. Alcott that I really liked--she broke out of her shell!!!

Summary: wow!
Review: I found this book to be fascinating and incredibly intense. Although it was written a long time ago, its subject is out of today's headlines-a romance that turns into a sick obsession.

Summary: Trashy (though somewhat fun)
Review: This is, presumably, a melodramatic potboiler that Louisa wrote to pay the bills and then thought better of publishing; too bad it's been revived now, as the utterly shallow characterization, cloying dialogue, and stereotyped plot might give some people the wrong impression of Alcott's skills. However, it can be a fun audiobook to listen to while you are puttering around the house and don't have to listen too closely to it, or it can be a good read for a rainy day. If you like the typical Gothic novel, you may love this book. If you are looking for the fine writing and good cheer of _Little Women_, or the detailed treatment of women's lives in _Work_, or an unconventional heroine (Rosamund is supposedly spirited and unconventional, but in fact she is depressingly shallow and dull), don't bother with this one.

Summary: Dissappointed with the End
Review: This book was well written and very good, but I was not pleased with how it ended. I expected something to that effect, but I still wasn't happy when it came about. It was very interesting and definately held your attention and made you want to keep reading.

Summary: Another side of Alcott
Review: Wow!This book was not what one would expect from Louisa May Alcott. When I was twelve I started reading "Eight Cousins" and it was so boring I couldn't get through the first chapter.Surprise! "A Long Fatal Love Chase" kept me up until dawn! Mystery, exotic locales, an ill-fated romance....this book has all the elements of a great thriller. I especially liked Alcott's clever use of foreshadowing. Alcott had considerable talent in this area and I wish she'd written more thrillers. This book definately lives up to all the hype!

Summary: What a tragic romance
Review: I was mordified as I read A Long Fatal Love Chase. The poor innocent Rosamond was taken advatage by the obsessive Tempest and in result haunted the rest of her days by a love that would only end in death. I presently just finished reading the book and feel so sad, yet relieved; angry, yet sorry for the losses. Because of these strong emotions the book has put me in, Louisa May Alcott did an exceptionally well job with the plot development and character outline. I cannot help but pity Rosamond for her unfortunate life, however, pity does fall for the hatred man who loved merely for the satisfaction for his troubled, yet untouched soul. I fail to give this piece of work five stars because frankly, I enjoy happy endings,(but perhaps I should have read the title and expected as much.) Four stars gives Miss Alcott the credit which A Long Fatal Love Chase earns.

Summary: Page Turner, Highly Suspenseful
Review: I could not put this book down. It was very suspensful. Rosamond is a heroine, to be looked up upon by every female. The only thing that Alcott failed to dictate to readers is Tempest's pure evil. He was a horible person, and various characters tell us that in the story, but without reason. Overall, this book was very good.
