Rating: Summary: Breathtakingly romantic. Review: Romance, thrilling adventure, and true, gut-wrenching emotion-- this novel by Louisa May Alcott pushes the envelope. Tempest: a man ruled by passion, cruelty and deceit. Rosamond: a young woman, innocent, beautiful, and strong-willed. Tempest seduces fair Rosamond (and the reader) with his devastating charm, mystery, and dangerous good looks. When Rosamond learns of Tempest's treacherous secrets, she vows to escape from his lies. Unfortunately, Tempest is intrigued and further impassioned by the chase as he promises to win her back, at all costs. Determined to break her wild spirit, Tempest succeeds in alienating Rosamond from others. Despite some slow moments, this book is overflowing with action and excitement. The chase is an interesting one and the ending is thoroughly satisfying
Rating: Summary: what a wonderful book! Review: I found this novel of love and deceit an appealing tale. I recommend this book to young readers who are interested in love and deception. The quality of this writing is dramatic and striked me with interest and curiosity. The fact that young Rosamond was trying to escape from a man who she thought she knew and loved was very thrilling to me. I found myself just dying to know what is going to happen to her in the next chapter. I just couldn't put the book down. Though some parts of the text confused me in some ways, because it was written such a long time ago, I was very interested and eventually understood what was going on. Also, the way Tempest was portrayed, as a mysterious and mystifying man was brilliant. And the way Rosamond falls deeply in love with him and how much she wanted to love a man was well explained. Though the ending wasn't the happily ever after cliché, I found that Alcott wrote the book well just like the rest of her novels she has written. I find Alcott to be an amazing writer with a wonderful imagination and style.
Rating: Summary: A great love adventure Review: Oh wow I dont know how to start, I dont like to read much but I picked up this book and never put it down. Yes, it is a romance but there is so much drama and excitment. I would read a chapter and have to keep reading because it was so good and it really grabs ur attention! I HIGHLEY recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Read this it's good! Review: Louisa May Alcott's A Long Fatal Love Chase was an interesting and entertaining book. It is about a young girl, Rosamond, who gets swept away by a charming and worldly man, Tempest. Tempest also brings along his friend Lito, a little boy who becomes Rosamond's best friend. Together the three travel Europe, stopping when they wish and staying as long as they please. This is until Rosamond finds something shocking out about her husband and leaves Tempest. The rest of the story is Tempest stalking and trying to get Rosamond back. I liked how this showed the strength of Rosamond, taking on whatever challenge faces her. Alcott writes of the love, hatred, courage, and determination of a woman's spirit. I can see why it was not published in 1866 when written. Although a very entertaining book, sometimes it became slow for short intervals. Also, there are many references to European cultures I don't know much about. I think young women especially would enjoy this book. Also those who have traveled Europe to understand the references and be able to appreciate the beautiful scenes Alcott describes.
Rating: Summary: A Long Fatal Love Chase - A most appropriate title Review: What a brilliant book! Not as good as Little Women, perhaps, but a wonderful. Only slow for the first few chapters, after which it is fast-paced and highly entertaining. On moment Rosamond is in the garret and the next, she is at the asylum. I really cannot see why it was rejected so long ago because after all the immoral deeds of Tempest are condemned, not glorified. Personally, I think Philip Tempest is one of the greatest villians of classic literature. There is nothing likeable about him, in the slightest; it is almost impossible to feel for him anything but hatred. Father Ignatius is as good as Tempest is evil, refusing to kill him even at the best of opportunities, despite the most valid of reasons. Rather than the classic damsel-in-distress, the heroine Rosamond Vivian is intelligent and resourceful but maintains the 'wronged-innocent' characteristic at the same time. Rosamond's love for each of the men reflects on their character. With Tempest, a sudden fulfilling of a desire and then it is "killed"(quoting Rosamond). While, for Ignatius, a new, pure love, blossoms - affection rather than attraction. Of course, complications ensue leading to a dramatic climax. Although the tragedy is regretable, I would not have preferred it otherwise for it is a fitting end to a masterpiece by a true artist.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling!!! Review: This book was amazing. The style of writing and the suspense from chapter to chapter was unbelievable! I would highly recommend this book-It was one of the best books I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: A Long Fatal Love Chase Review: I could not put this book down until I finished it. It was so exciting and I felt so sorry for Rosamond as she tried to hide from her husband Tempest. Tempest kept me guessing trying to figure out who he really was because his hate and evil deeds to everyone made me assume he was Satan. I ached for Rosamond as she kept running away and I wished she could have led a happy life with the priest she met and fell in love with. I cried all the way through this book and haven't read anything so exciting and that held my attention so passionately. Wow! I wish every book could do that.
Rating: Summary: One of the BEST books I've ever read Review: I just finished this book last night, 8 hours of laying in bed and I never wanted it to end. I devoured it like a rabid beast and at the end I cried like I've never cried before. I fell in love with Rosamond Vivian, an innocent, beautiful girl who doesn't give in to the temptations of the charming yet deceitful devil-like man she is still in love with. She forces logic to rule her heart while the 35-year-old Tempest grows ever-the-more obsessed with a selfish love for this angel of a girl who is the first one to ever resist his spell. He hunts her like a wild rabbit-- in a convent, a mental institution and all over Europe. He is cunning and shows up at the most incredulous moments (if it were a movie you wouldn't believe it) but Alcott explains how these impossibilities happen and it all makes sense. This book is intriguing, will have you breathless and literally on the edge of your seat, and will make you cry. If it's the last thing you do, buy this book.
Rating: Summary: A pleasant suprise Review: This thriller was a surprise to me as I had not imagined Louisa May Alcott wrote this genre. As with all other Louisa May Alcott books, it is well written and has a depth that most modern books lack.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put it down! Review: This is a very suspenseful book---each chapter ends with a surprise. The title of the book says it all "a long fatal love chase." It is full of twists and turns and you'll be finished reading it in a day or two because the adventure never slows down. Not what I typically think of for a Louis May Alcott book... as this was much more fast-pased. However, never predictable at all... even to the last page!
