Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Read Dead in the Water first Review: A sequel to the outstanding Dead in the Water, this book is much more enjoyable when you know the background -- the story of Stone's unhappy romance with the oddly-named but delectable Arrington. If you've followed Stuart Woods' career, you'd know that his very first book was a sailing memoir (Blue Water, Green Skipper); it's a joy to see this author return to his boating roots in this and the preceding book. (You won't believe the scene in which Stone is thrown overboard with an anchor tied to him.) Even if you don't care beans for boats, cancel your appointments -- Dead in the Water and Swimming to Catalina aren't to be put down!!! (The title, incidentally, is a quote from Raymond Chandler: "Oh sure, I do something you don't like and I'll be swimming to Catalina with a streetcar on my back." What a combination -- an adventure/mystery writer at the top of his form, putting his appealing character on the same streets once prowled by Philip Marlowe. Stuart, THANK YOU! MORE!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Great Book Review: All I can say is read this book if your are looking for a book you can't put down. I have read fourteen Stuart Wood's books and this was one of my favorites. Stone Barrington is very cool.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: A terrific story Review: Former NYPD police officer Stone Barrington plans to rest up after returning home from his "vacation" (see DEAD IN THE WATER). However when his buddy Vance Calder, a movie superstar, calls and pleads for his help, Stone heads to California. Vance's wife, Arrington Carrington (Stone's former girl friend) has been kidnapped and it is up to the former law enforcement official to find her. However, Stone finds himself the recipient of the VIP treatment, making him conclude that someone does not want him to investigate the disappearance of his former squeeze. Soon, Stone is told to go back to the Big Apple as Arrington has been found. Still, he cannot leave without finding out the truth about the recent shenanigans. This turns into a mistake as the New Yorker becomes the target of some questionable characters. SWIMMING TO CATALINA is not for everyone. If someone wants a jocular, irrelevant novel in which nothing is sacred, this is the book to peruse. Stone is a typical cynical New Yorker with a slightly self-deprecating sense of humor. He is also the last of the free love characters. The story line is fast-paced and filled with plenty of action. Simply put, Stuart Woods has written another three thumbs up winner. Harriet Klausner
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Stone Barrington Rides Again! Review: I love Stone...rather reserved, modest, seemingly a hopeless romantic. But he has a good head on his shoulders and always delivers. Stuart Woods has created a great leading man in Stone, and I hope he continues the "tradition". This foray didn't quite measure up to his previous two, especially "Dead in the Water", but it was a great read nontheless. Will Arrington be out of his life forever now that she has Vance's child? Or will Stone charge to her rescue the next time she calls? Stay tuned...(we hope!)
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Not the best Stuart Woods Review: I was dissapointed in this novel. While I still like Stone Barrington adn I was glad to see Dino included, it was a stretch to have him follow Arrington. I also thought that he tried to tie in to many different story lines one this one. Many of his other books are my favorites. I would recommend all of the others. This one is ok, but don't read as your first.
Rating: ![2 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-2-0.gif) Summary: Not a pageturner for me Review: I'm always looking for a book that I can't book down, a who-dunnit that keeps me guessing to the end. This book was not it. Though Woods is great at fleshing out his main characters, he dragged out the mystery way to long to the point where I was disintrested.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Wow! Definitely the Best in the Stone Series! Review: If I could give 6 stars, I would!! This is definitely Stuart Woods best Stone Barrington novel yet. While I felt that "Dead in the Water" was not so good, you might want to read it before reading "Swimming to Catalina" because one kind of flows to the other. Stone continues to be real cool and I love him more and more with each novel that I read. The plot line in this novel is excellent. It keeps going and going and I never wanted to put the book down. Every single part of the book was excellent. I highly recommend!

Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: pretty good read Review: once again, Stuart Woods pens a quick page turner. After reading a few of his books they still feel fresh, unlike other authors who seem to fall into familiar patterns after a few novels have been written.
Another thing I like is the return of familiar characters from other books, much like the works of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child
The only thing keeping this from getting a higher rating is the fact that it drags just a little about half way to two thirds in. But the ending picks up the pace again.
Definetly recommended for fans of stuart woods and mystery/suspense fans alike.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Stone Barrington, at it again! Review: This book has the same page-turning quality as New York Dead. It is the fourth book in the Stone Barrington series. This time, Stone is caught in a mystery dealing with his past love, Arrington. She has now married Vance Calder, who appeared previously in the series, and has vanished! It is up to Stone to find her, and he is not going to stop until he does. Does he still deeply care for Arrington? Will he discover her, or her body? Who is behind all this? These are some of the questions you will find haunting you until you finish this book! It is definitely one of Woods' best!
