Rating: Summary: Great characters, intriguing mystery - Catherine's best! Review: I bought this book in an airport because the back sounded good. It was such an enthralling read I didn't put it down once - thank goodness it was an overseas flight so that I didn't have to wait to end the suspense!I kept trying to guess what was going on but couldn't. I knew something was up with those old people, but I never suspected what was really going down until the end. It was quite shocking. And the bits in the insane asylum scared the ... out of me. As for the hero, I adored John Quinlan. Catherine loves Savitch and puts him in every single book, but John Quinlan is MY first love, and I wish he were in more of them! On the strength of this book, I went out and bought The Maze. It was so good I bought all of her other books! ... If you don't read anything else by Catherine Coulter, though, read this. It's worth your time! ...
Rating: Summary: Romantic Suspense At Its Best! Review: The Cove is a little town made up only of old folk who sell the World's Greatest Ice Cream. Everything is picture perfect. No potholes, no peeling paint, and flowers everywhere. Sally's Aunt Amabel lived in The Cove. It was to Amabel she ran when she escaped the mental institute. Everyone believed she had murdered her father and was insane. FBI Special Agent James Quinlan comes into town to find Sally. His cover is as a private investigator sent to check out the death of a couple of elderly tourist who had disappeared near The Cove three years before. He asked questions never knowing what he would uncover and how it indirectly linked to Sally. James soon realized that Sally was not crazy at all. But she IS the key to everything. ***The suspense, mysteries, and close calls are nonstop in this one! Catherine Coulter has turned me into a big fan! The Maze takes a subcharacter from this book and gives him his own story. I can hardly wait to read it. Ms Coulter, in my humble opinion, could very well be the Queen Of Romantic Suspense.***
Rating: Summary: What is the deal with these books? Review: I think this is now the 4th FBI book I've read of Catherine Coulter's (out of order) and I'm not sure why. What the heck is the deal with all these men proposing before they've even kissed the girl? How far-fetched is that? I guess I like a little more intrigue and less romance in my books. I'm not sure why I've bothered to read 4 of them. I like Dillon and Savich but the dialogue is often just weird, and like I said, the whole idea of proposing so quickly just seems lame. But if you like that stuff, these would probably be all great books.
Rating: Summary: Coulter's newest fan! Review: THE COVE was the first Coulter book I read. I was visiting a family member recently, and she thought I might be interested in this book. She knew me too well! I finished the book on the return flight, and couldn't wait to get to a bookstore to pick up the next two (The Maze and The Target). The Cove was full of suspense, twists and turns and even though I suspicioned that the ending would be different, it still through me for a loop! This book really grabbed my attention, and now Catherine Coulter has become one of my favorite authors.
Rating: Summary: Characters and Story line unrealisitic Review: I really was hoping to find a new author to read when I picked up The Cove. I did not. The characters were bland, the story line was bad, and the dialogue of the characters seemed to me like rambling. I did finish the book, hoping at each page that it would get better. It did not. To be honest this book made me angry because I felt like I was wasting my time. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
Rating: Summary: I loved it! Review: I read The Cove when it first came out but did not know I could write a review. I was fasinated with the book because I couldn't second guess what was going to happen next. I read ALL Catherine Coulter's "The" books in the order they came out and The Cove and The Maze are my favorites. Also, I've read all your posted reviews and must stress to your readers that Catherine Coulter is a romance writer, not a Steven King. I like romance for the "romance/sex" hoping for a good story line and this one has it. Happy reading.
Rating: Summary: Cardboard cutouts Review: I finished the book because I had to see what happened, but I found it a disappointment. The plot was wildly improbable, the characters just cardboard cutouts. I guess I like something a little closer to reality, a little more believable, with some characters that feel real. Did you notice? Everyone was either incredibly wonderful or the epitome of evil. I'm taking Catherine Coulter off my list of authors to read.
Rating: Summary: Thrilling Review: This is the first of Catherine Coulter's FBI books. I happened to read it third which may have colored my perceptions of it. I really enjoyed this book. I am glad that it has been reissued in hardcover as I now have a complete set. The mystery of who was the killer kept me guessing until the end. Catherine does an excellent job of keeping you in suspense in this book and it has many layers. I loved the characters in this book and really enjoyed getting to know them. Some of the following books in this series are better (The Maze and the Target), it is a little uneven in spots, but this is definitely a keeper and an excellent introduction to the workings of the FBI.
Rating: Summary: reprint of the first of these fine FBI police procedurals Review: Whatever Sally St. John Brainerd knows about her arms dealer father's murder, she obviously trusts no one including the FBI. Instead of turning to the authorities to tell them what she knows about Amory St. John's murder, Sally flees to her aunt's remote home in THE COVE, Oregon. FBI Agent James Quinlan tracks Sally to the picturesque coastal town, but does not attempt to bring her in. Instead he goes undercover as a private sleuth trying to solve a three year old missing persons' case. Two elderly people vanished at The Cove. The quaint town that boasts of the best ice cream in the world is not quite as tranquil as it first appears. Soon homicides occur and Sally vanishes. With the help of his partner Dillon Savich, James must rescue her from a place that no one has ever returned alive before. THE COVE is a reprint of the first of Catherine Coulter's popular FBI police procedural tales. The story line is action packed with the suspense growing by the page. The description of the seemingly benevolent sleepy town is cleverly intertwined into the prime plot. Though some of the key players seem two-dimensional, fans of the author and those who appreciate a fast moving suspense thriller will take delight with the novel in which this popular romance writer made a sharp right turn.
