Summary: hilarious
Review: I think Jesse Ventura is one of those political mistakes that end up in history books. Garrison once again takes the elad in putting forth an amusing portrayal of the gubernatorial goon

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Embarrassing , Vulgar and Offensive from the First Page
Review: I thought this book might offer some humor and have some fun with Jessie Ventura and his politics, but man, this book stinks! Right off the bat Keillor writes about "Big Boy's" conception between a married man and a woman engaged to another man. He states that his mother "might have sought out an abortionist" and that "it's obvious why they did what they did and put me up for adoption". I've never met anyone who went through an abortion or been involved with an adoption and thought it was funny or as frivoulas as Keillor writes. This is my first attempt at Mr. Keillor's writing and if this is any indication of it, I'm staying far away from him and you should stay far away from this book...

Summary: A Great Weekend Read
Review: I've always thought that Garrison Keillor was a bit too folksy for me, but I have a new appreciation of his wit and humor. This book is a quick read and makes a great weekend escape. No, it is not a literary masterpeice for all time, but it's not supposed to be. It's merely a satire on one of the popular personalities of the day. I often laughed out loud. Don't bother reading this book if you take politics or Minnesota too seriously or if you simply have no sense of humor.

Summary: Simply Awful
Review: I've just about finished reading this book, which I picked up in London while traveling a few weeks ago. I was looking for something light to carry and easy to read, and this book was exactly what I needed.

I decided to write a review because it looks like some of the other reviewers lacked a sense of humor in the reviews they provided. Some of us see Jesse Ventura's successful election to the Minnesota Govenorship as a funny example of US politics. Garrison simply makes an already funny event even better.

Summary: Funny and Witty, if you didn't vote for Jesse Ventura

Review: If I could give this awful piece of typewriting zero stars I would. Probably the worst thing I have read in years.

Summary: The Garrisonator Triumphs
Review: If you have ever enjoyed reading anything by Garrison Keillor you MUST read this book. And if you are not already a fan of Keillor this may turn you into one. Keillor is in top form in this very well crafted satire that roughly parallels the story of pro wrestler Jesse Ventura's rise to governor of a state made famous by Keillor's Lake Wobegon stories.

It would appear from the tone of writing in this book that Mr. Keillor has been studying the work of Kurt Vonnegut very closely. I may be wrong, but it seems like Keillor is deliberately emulating Vonnegut's folksy but sophisticated satirical voice in this particular novel. I keep expecting one of the characters to start reciting "My name is John Johnson, I live in Wisconsin..." or to see the phrase "So it goes." Especially when the Jimmy the Candidate runs into a female space alien in a sexy getup on a country lane next to the World's Biggest Corncob near Walnut Grove, Minnesota while on his campaign tour.

I do not know why some people think Keillor is being anti-Ventura in this book. I especially do not understand the remarks that accuse Keillor of being a hateful "anti-right wing" leftist! Especially in view of all the swipes at Al Gore which are not mean spirited, just vague attempts to paint him as a noncontender. Not to mention the Jimmy character's promise that if he were President he would not be like Clinton, but keep it "in the First Bedroom."

Summary: Waste of money
Review: It's sad to see the disparaging remarks of Garrison "small mind" Keillor. His brand of snide remarks could only be appreciated by East Coast limousine liberals and cultural elite. His comments about the Vietnam War are especially troubling.

Most citizens agree that Jesse Ventura won each of the gubernatorial debates.

Summary: Raining on the Parade
Review: Keillor always thought if anyone from the entertainment world would be elected "King" of Minnesota, it would be him. And then he was beaten to the punch, shown up, supplanted and body slammed by of all people, an uneducated, loud, ex-TV wrassler! The result was this obnoxious little temper tantrum of a book.

Rumor has it that Keillor will marry the sound of his own voice in a private civil ceremony. Music will be provided by Keillor, as well as all readings, officiating, and other auditory sounds. Keillor's ego will serve as best man. Keillor and his melodious vocal chords will then honeymoon at a slightly above-average Kareoke bar in Hawaii.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Quite funny!!!
Review: Our own Prairie Home Companion host has done Minnesota proud -- something needed in the wake of an embarrassing election and the Gopher cheating scandal. Keep it up, Mr. Keillor! Someone has to show the world that not all Minnesotans are as small-minded as the ones who elected the "wrassler."
