Summary: A K A a pretty good read
Review: A K A Jane is a pretty good British female secret agent type novel. It is not the best of the genre out there but is a very enjoyable read. Jane Nichols wants to retire from her life as a secret agent after coming off a mission that has taken its tole mentally and physically. As well as being a secret agent she's also a very successful author under the pen name Max Murdock and decides she will concentrate the rest of her life on pumping out more novels about her successful character Andrew Jax. First things first though she must avenge the death of her lover a fellow spy, by killing terrorist Jim O'Neil. He is currently in Savannah, USA, which she also decides is a good place to base her next Jax novel from. She rents a room from police chief Alex Callaghan who is on the case of a serial killer who likes to strangle beautiful women. Jane herself is a beautiful woman and not knowing she is an M I-5 agent, Alex is constantly worried about her. Meanwhile the British want her back at work and to find out what terrorist O'Neil is up to. She however has not intention of returning to her former life and just wants him dead.

This is a very enjoyable read but there are better female British government agent novels out there. The best would be by author Christopher Nicole, with his Jessica Jones character. Titles such as The Voyage, The Search, The Pursuit and Poor Darling are just a few to look for.

Summary: Good, Fast-Paced Read!!
Review: All the members of my household really enjoyed this page turner! Jane is a character we would like to see again. We'll be waiting (hopefully) for the next in the series.

Summary: Surprisingly good
Review: Even after I read the cover text I expected this to be something like "Murder, she wrote" or "Scarescrow & Mrs. King". But it's actually a very good thriller with a surprisingly convincing heroine. Of course, there has to be some romance. Obviously, it can't be helped. But the relationship between Jane and her lover, Savannah's police chief, is at least mildly interesting. But Tan and Jane Nichols are at their best when it comes to action, plotting and deceiving. I really hope that Jane Nichols won't retire to soon. This series could be a winner.

Summary: On a scale of 1-10, this is an 11
Review: For the past seven years, Jane Nichols, a counter-terrorist assigned to Britain's MI5 team, dreams of avenging the death of her lover and partner, who died during a botched operation. Now Jane is retiring to pursue her obsession: getting even by killing Jim O'Neil, the IRA agent who destroyed her life seven years ago.

She moves to Savannah, Georgia and adopts one of her alter-egos, Max Murdoch, author of a detective series. Her seemingly simple project is quickly compounded by the fact that Jim has just been voted the Georgia businessman of the year and is widely respected throughout the state. Jane decides to look closely at her nemesis's business. She partners with her former British MI5 mates, their American counterparts, and the Savannah chief of police, handsome Alex Callaghan, who raises once dead feelings of passion in the deadly assassin. Still Jane continues to investigate even as she knows that as she gets closer to the truth about her arch-enemy, she steps ever closer to death.

AKA JANE introduces a very interesting new protagonist, who as she allegedly has come in from the cold, still uses the skills she has gained over the years. Jane will quickly gain a large fan appreciation. The story line is straight forward with very few twists and turns, but surprisingly that adds to the overall fun of an exciting spy-like thriller.

Summary: Disappointing.
Review: I just couldn't like Jane Nichols, the heroine of this book. She's supposed to be this terrific secret agent, so why is her mentor, Mac, always rescuing her? She's tormented by the death of her former lover for years. Nightmares, cold sweats, you name it, we hear about it in detail.

If the heroine had just taken herself a little less seriously maybe I'd have liked it. As it is, I'll stick to my Kinsey Millhone mysteries for a smart, tough cookie who also has a great sense of humor and isn't mired down with all this angst.

Summary: What a great book!
Review: I just finished reading AKA Jane and boy, what a great book! I can't wait to see where Maureen Tan takes Jane. Parts of this book remind me of the Deighton series of books (Game/Set/Match, etc.) and parts remind me of characters like Stephanie Plum and Sharon McCone. This book is a cross between a stiff British espionage story and a modern strong female protagonist story.A wonderful book - highly recommended!

Summary: I'm not remotely a mystery-genre fan, but that's changing.
Review: I read the review for this book over the computer, thought, "why not?" and purchased it, fully prepared to yawn my way through it. Not a yawn passed my lips, as I was riveted to the book. I found it enthralling, amusing, sensitive, scary, and all-round enjoyable.

I look forward to reading the next book about Jane - just to see what happens!

Summary: very exciting, page turner!!!!!
Review: I really liked this book, it's James Bond without the arrogant male sex role.
