Rating: Summary: Truly Unique Review: Having read and thorougly enjoyed Lindsay's Absence of Light, I eagerly bought everything else of his that I could find. My second voyage into his writing was this book. IF ONLY I had read the assessment of the first review!! This book is nothing like what Lindsay is capable of. It is boring, predictable and its characters are somewhere in between overdrawn and ridiculous. In an attempt to have a series of twists and turns, the author has the reader spinning - leaving one with a sense of nausea at times. I shall not give up on Lindsay, however. Absense of Light was so brilliant that I'm sure this was just a fluke.
Rating: Summary: Animosity = What the reader feels Review: Having read and thorougly enjoyed Lindsay's Absence of Light, I eagerly bought everything else of his that I could find. Rating: Summary: An intriguing reading experience Review: Highly regarded sculptor Ross Marteau ends his three-year relationship with Marian on rather bad terms with acrimonious words exchanged. He lingers for two and a half months doing nothing on the Left Banke except for some emotionally healing before returning to his home in San Rafael, Texas. Beautiful Celeste Lacan asks Ross to sculpt her sister Leda for a fee. Celeste shows a photograph of Leda's face, which Ross realizes is that of the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. Still, he refuses because he already has a commission, but agrees to meet Leda. However, in person, he finds the beautiful visage is marred by a horrendous looking hunchback. He cannot resist the lure of beauty and the beast. As Ross embarks on an affair with Celeste, he feels the torment destroying Leda, but does not realize how close the siblings are until murder accentuates the obvious. ANIMOSITY is a powerful novel that looks deep into the soul of humanity and finds it lacking. The story line is strange as David Lindsey keeps the plot nebulous until the ending so that the reader never knows the truth until the twisting climax ends. The sisters are weird and Ross is an enigma, but that fits the scheme of this spooky thriller that lays bare man's inhumanity. Harriet Klausner
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment! Review: I can only reiterate what others have already stated. I have read everything that David Lindsay has written with the utmost admiration. In "Animosity" he is too cute and too sloppy. I never thought that Lindsay would challenge my credulity this crassly. His primary character is hardly believable in his naivete.
Rating: Summary: Just a terrible book Review: I can't believe how lousy, sloppy and improbable this book is. David Lindsey, who brought us the complex, facsinating Stuart Heydon, has apparently decided that he doesn't need him anymore and has been trying to compete with Robert Ludlum for improbable and sophomoric writing. The characters are nothing more than cartoon characters, the plot is artificially convoluted, lacking any focus and credibilty. The dialogues are so forced, ridiculous and childish,I felt embarrassed for the author. I figured out the culprit midway through the book,so it didn't even hold any suspense, forced and artificial as it was. It's is amazing that such a promising author has sunk so low.
Rating: Summary: Mistake Review: I dont believe that I actually finished this book. Book is boring, plot is nonsense, and how anybody actually enjoyed this book is beyond me.
Rating: Summary: Truely Terrifying Review: I have never read a David Lindsey book before this one, so I had no preconceived notions about what type of writer he is. I happened to pick it up at the bookstore and after several chapters, went home with it. I thought he did a great job at depicting the evil that can live inside humans. The story has many twists, but what is most unsettling is that everyone is lying the entire time. You never get the sense that you can trust the characters, even Ross, because he is not adept at telling himself the truth or seeing in others. The story is not scary in the traditional sense, like a Steven King novel or something of that nature; instead what makes it terrifying is the human behavior and the fact that you can imagine it happening. The entire novel is very intense and will have you gasping more than once. In addition, if you are looking for resolve in the ending, you won't find it.
Rating: Summary: Terrible Novel by a Great Writer Review: I have read every David Lindsey novel and enjoyed each and every one of them. I couldn't wait to get my hands on Animosity. Was I evey disappointed. This is a terribly written book. It took 100 pages before any suspense took place. The book was so predictable that I knew the villian immediately. The book is simply preposterous and unbelieveable. Don't waste your time on this one.
Rating: Summary: This is not a typical Lindsey book, but it's great! Review: If you are expecting another cop mystery involving Stuart Haydon, you may be disappointed. However, if you read this book with no preconcieved notions of what you expect from Lindsey, you just may love it. The descriptions of the Hlll Country of Texas are right on and the story of the tangled web of lies and betrayals is a page-turner until the very end. I have read all of Lindsey's books and liked this one best of all.
Rating: Summary: A roller coaster ride through the depths of the human psyche Review: In the hands of ordinary writers, a novel where the plot changes for the the first, but not last, time some 50 pages into the book; where characters seem to be someone but turn out somebody or something else; where love turns into hate then betrayal then changes into something else; where you absolutly have not a clue what turn of events will occur next - a novel such as this would seem to be a topsy-turvy mess. But...David Lindsey in not your ordinary writer. A brilliant page turner that will keep you mesmerized until the last page.
