Rating: Summary: A genuine man Review: What a genuine man Bernard Kerik is.... I am not one to read books about policemen but this is one that I would recommend to any avid reader. He not only tells us about his own life and the search for his mothers murderer, but most importantly, he praises the men who work for him constantly throughout the book! Who wouldn't want to work for this man?? READ THIS BOOK! It will truly change your life.

Now, he looks back at the most difficult -- and most personal -- unsolved case of all: the mystery of his own mother, who abandoned him 41 years ago. From the sagging row houses of Paterson, New Jersey to the cocaine fields of Columbia, from the razor wire of Rikers Island to the streets of New York City, Bernard Kerik has dedicated his life to a single goal: to fight the injustice he sees around him.

Rating: Summary: Buy this, read it and buy one for a friend Review: This book is a fascinating tale of police work, police politics, bravado in the face of danger, and most importantly, using the difficult situations that life throws your way to become an inspirational and productive adult. I'm not really sure what made me pick this book up.My sister suggested it after seeing Mr. Kerik on T.V. so I went to Amazon and purchased it, it did look interesting. It reads as if Mr. Kerik is sitting in your living room, telling you the story. I remember seeing him on T.V. after the September 11th tragedy, standing next to the mayor. We really don't know what goes in other people's lives, what makes them tick, and how life's expereiences have led that person to where he or she is today. Well, in this book, Mr. Kerik tries to explain and it is an amazing life story. I am anxious to know what happens to him now, and I'm even worried about New York, "The World's City" without him at the helm. So, read this book, and pass it on or buy one for a friend. It is inspiring, interesting, exciting, sad and hopeful.
Rating: Summary: NOT JUST FOR MEN....PLEASE! Review: I am a 31 year old woman from Los Angeles. I bought the Commissioner's book for my brother in law for a Christmas present. When it arrived, I leafed through it and thought, "I'll only read the September 11th chapter." Yeah, right!!! Wanting to still give it as a gift, I read it by opening the book only a tiny bit so as not to crease the cover. HA! That didn't last long. It's now my copy! Bernard Kerik is a rare man. His story is blunt, witty, touching and powerful. I wish I knew him personally. You hope that there are still good,law-abiding cowboys out there like him, and this book is testimony to that. The world is a safer place because of you, Mr. Kerik. I'm buying three more copies right now! Thanks!
Rating: Summary: My husband says "EXCELLENT!!!" Review: I am writing this review for my husband who is a total non-reader and not very computer literate. He said this book was one of the best and most accurate accounts of the law enforcement life. He has been in law enforcement for 15 years and has heard about Commissioner Kerik over the past couple of years. Other law enforcement should strive to be as committed as Comm. Kerik. My husb says read this book!! It will make you more proud of America's REAL heros...policemen and firemen. GOD BLESS USA AND GOD BLESS NYPD, FDNY, NY EMS AND OUR BOYS OVERSEAS!!
Rating: Summary: AN EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN! Review: Bernard Kerik is no ordinary man. Bernard Kerik is a man of extraordinary courage, character, determination, and integrity who has committed his life to fighting the world's injustices. He is a man with a mission and his task, at times, seems almost an endless impossibility. From a Times Square beat cop and an undercover police officer buying drugs in Harlem, to righting the wrongs of Rikers Island, Kerik is truly a man whose shoes would be very difficult, if not impossible, to fill. The book is well written and mind absorbing from start to finish. One important message readers can take from this book is having the courage to stand up for what one beleives in and the fortitude to stand up for those who are not able to stand up for themselves. This is a tremendous book written by a man of exceptional honour and valor. The book is deserving of far more than a five-star rating; it deserves all the stars in the universe.
Rating: Summary: Read it and learn from it - no matter your position! Review: So many - most, in fact - of our law enforcement managers would learn a great deal from "Beezie" Kerik! I'd say that a majority of them have no clue what real leadership is. Too many are merely in their position for the semblance of power and the better paycheck. Kerik details his life - sad, joyous, adventurous, depressing, and magnanimous - in a very readable and enjoyable way. I've been in law enforcement for 17 years and have learned a great deal from this book. I only wish I had the honor to work with and for him. (Perhaps he'd consider a Chief's position here?!)
