Rating: Summary: Totally intriguing & inspirational book Review: ATCF is indeed one of Jeffrey Archer's best novels. Such an interesting turn of events and characters. Truly inspirational stuff: it has indeed been a key motivator to me in terms of encouragment in tackling the many adventures of the business environment, such that it has inspired me to set up my own business. A great recommendation to anyone wanting to embark on the pursuit of establishing and setting up their own company, etc.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful work! Delightful reading! Review: ATCF was my first Archer novel, and what a delight it is! I haven't put it down since I started. My lunch breaks have been extended, I'm up a little later each night, and I'm hungry for more! If you haven't read Jeffrey Archer, this would be a perfect start. Too bad I can't give it 6 stars!
Rating: Summary: One of Jeffrey Archer's best novels! Review: Being the first Jeffrey Archer book I read, I was truely impressed. I have subsequently read every other book he has ever written! The story follows the life of an individual, as do many of his books. He never uses profanity, nor needs to. As the Crow Flies is long, but well worth the money spent!
Rating: Summary: No Review Would Do this book Justice Review: But I will try.The sweeping and panoramic viewpoints that accompany this novel, just start the incredible journey that the reader is taken through in the lives of these characters. Archer creates beleiveable and loveable characters, incredible plot twists, and a fluid shifting of viewpoints; incorporating all this together makes for one of the best novels ever. The readers interest grows as the character do, the characters are introduced as young children, so you can imagine how much love and admiration the reader will have for the character when the book ends and they are in their 70's. The book encompasses such a range of human emotions, all leading to making this book so believable and lovable. Love, hate, jealousy, everything is in this novel. By even calling this book a novel might be wrong from the start. It is more of a saga of the life of Charlie Trumper and his loved ones, foes, nemesis and family. His drive and ambition make him the favorite main character, but the reader gets even more in touch with him through the viewpoints of other characters. My hat is off to Jeffrey Archer, to put a book together of this magnitude was quite an undertaking I am sure. The precision and attention to detail that he uses in writing these novels is breathtaking, please read this book to understand. Do not be daunted by the length, after reading a few pages, you won't even realize how long it is until you finish it, and you wished it was even longer.
Rating: Summary: Quite good potboiler by Jeffery Archer Review: Charlie Trumper goes off to World War I, entrusting his pushcart to his wife-to-be. He returns, having made an enemy that will haunt him for years to come, to find that he now has a greengrocer's stand, one small store on a large avenue. The ambitious Charlie seeks to expand his control over the entire city block, only to be met with the enemy, who seeks to frustrate Charlie at every turn. The more Charlie controls, the higher the stakes. But the true genius of his adversary is not apparent until she strikes him a devastating blow. The solution lies with a carefully hidden secret . . . but will Charlie win all or lose all? Or will winning be worth it? You'll find out faster than you think as you quickly turn the pages. I don't think this is Archer's best, but he was such a good author that this is still an excellent read. The character of Charlie Trumper is an original for him. Unfortunately, most of the minor characters are pretty much cookie-cutter. Read and enjoy.
Rating: Summary: By far Archer's most superb book! Review: Ever since I read my first Jeffrey Archer novel a year ago, I have never failed to be impressed by the fluid and seemingly uncanny flair for writing he appears to posess. I managed to cover every book of his, from Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less to The Eleventh Commandment within a space of six months, apart from As the Crow Flies as I felt that it would be quite a chore to plough through 738 pages (UK paperback edition). How wrong I turned out to be. Right from the very moment I completed the first chapter of ATCF to the very last page, I simply could not get the incredible story out of my head- the enterprising and brilliant Charlie, the scheming Mrs. Trentham, the practical, intelligent Daphne- just kept flooding my thoughts. I finished the book within three days, which was a rather short period of time by my standards. This is one book which is equal to, if not better than, Archer's classic novel, Kane and Abel, especially in terms of plot twists. Jeffrey Archer tells the story from a multitude of viewpoints, making the book all the more interesting, given the fact that we, the readers, actually get to sample the feelings of the many characters. Archer's strength lies in his ability to tell the story of a person right from his or her birth (take K&A or The Fourth Estate for example), which is also evident in ATCF. Without the slightest doubt, As the Crow Flies justifies the fact that, to quote the Mail on Sunday, Jeffrey Archer is 'probably the greatest storyteller of our age'!
Rating: Summary: As The Crow Flies, It Soars!! Review: Excellent work by Archer. My second favourite of his novels, next to only Kane & Abel. Story of family, triumph and tragedy. By the end of the novel you'll feel as if you grew up with the Trumper family.
Rating: Summary: Purely Enjoyable Review: I cannot say enough good things about this book or in fact any of Jeffrey Archer's. A pleasurable read, an adventure, and a wonderfully fun escape. I truly find it hard to think of a book I enjoyed more.
Rating: Summary: Near the top of my collection! Review: I have enjoyed almost all of Archer's work, icluding the short stories. As the Crow Flies inches just above Kane & Abel. What's most interesting about this book is that its narrator changes from character to character, and back. This style gives the story a lot of depth and helped to hold my interest -- not that it needed the help
Rating: Summary: Great reading!!! Review: I highly recommend this author to anyone who happens to ask. ATCF was the first (but definitely not the last) novel I read by Archer. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and was delighted to learn he had so many others in print. If you like this one go for Kane and Abel next, and read your way through all the rest.
