Rating: Summary: WATERSHIP DOWN Who says teenagers dont read about rabbits??? Review: Richard Adams is the best novelest in the history of the genre.I was given this book as an asighnment to read, in all it took me 5 days to finish. I was sceptical like so many other people in the world about the nature of this book but as I read the first chapter I was not going to put the book back down.I only wish that the novelist Richard Adams would create another book based on his veiw of rabbits. Tales from watership down did not quench my thirst for his wonderful and exiting world. After I read the last chapter on a characters death I was in a deep depresion for days thinking about it. I dont know if I will read the last chapter anymore. If I could when I reach an older age I will visit the actual downs on wich the book is based on. It means that much to me. ps Read his other novels! There great!
Rating: Summary: A Modern Classic Review: As I read this book, I find it hard to believe that it wasn't written that long ago. Classic literature such as this is few and far between. It's a powefully well-writen allegory to human nature and our lives as well as a plain old epic tale of adventure. The story of the rabbits leaving a dictatorial warren to flee from an unknown danger and set up their own warren is an original one, especially with the problems that they encounter along the way and after they reach their destination. You've got natural danger, temptation, suspense, romance, everything to make an epic. The characters are unbelievably well-written. The story climaxes with a trip to a warren run like a police-state, Efrafa. This is one book you can read over and over again. If you are here, don't think twice. Buy this classic now!
Rating: Summary: Still an all-time favorite!!!! Review: I read this book nearly 20 years ago while in grade school and its still one of my all-time favorites. Richard Adams took an apparently whimsical story and turned it into a parody of epical proportions.
Rating: Summary: An excellent read! Review: Love this book-my two rabbits give it 2 paws up
Rating: Summary: A cunning adventure full of hidden comparisons. Review: I found this novel to be a really interresting read. I loved the comparisons between societies and governments throughout. Only one point that somehow got on my nerves was that each character seemed kind of 2D. They only displayed certain traits and I would've liked to see more variation and different moods and changes in the characters as they progress through the novel. Overall this was a great story suitable for any age and it will always be one of the classics!
Rating: Summary: I've read it 24 times!! Review: I LOVE this book!! It's my absolute favorite!! I love to read it over & over & over!! 5 STARS all the way!!
Rating: Summary: How Cowslip was almost a Beat and other hidden treasures. Review: Watership Down is one of the most thrilling reads of the 20th century. Adams manages not to stereotype any human counterparts in his portrayal of another life form. Watership Down will entertain readers of any age with adventure and cliffhangers, but deeper readings are possible for the more mature. The book's onion skin layers are a evidence of a work that transcends the bestseller list and becomes Literature. Please, read this book more than once. If you enjoy T.S. Eliot (or Lawrence Durrell's "Book of the Dead,") you will feel at home in Cowslip's warren. I promise you a look into post-WWII English life that will teach you about human nature's cliffs and valleys through the Down's lapine characters.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: This is one of the best books i've ever read. It also has some of my favorite characters created in literature. You really feel for those rabbits.
Rating: Summary: This is truely one of my favorite book of all time Review: Watership Down is one of the few books I have ever actually read twice. It was just as good if not better the second time around. A story about a society of rabbits would seem to be a most unlikely plot line for a book. Yet, Ricard Adam's manage to create a stunning masterpiece. I will cherish this book for as long as I am alive.
