Summary: Dark and chilling ambiance in "Double Image"
Review: David Morrell has done it once again with this book--he's truly outdone himself this time. When reading the book, one would wonder why on earth we've gone nearly halfway through the story before the sudden change in plot. The reason is obvious--the title gives much of it away. Most of Morrell's previous novelis have been international thrillers. And why not? That's what he's known for. But the man who gave us "First Blood" has done much more here. There are bright, surface impressions about his main character, Coltrane, but as the story moves onward we go deeper and deeper into the shadows of Coltrane's darker side. We immediately understand the relationship with the heroine, left with the ability to feel her hurt as Coltrane gets sidetracked by a beautiful but dangerous seductress. The great truth about the book is that Morrell ingeniously weaves two themes here in seamless style: man vs. man (and woman) and man vs. himself. The story is told at a relentless pace, with the clarity and flow that makes Morrell one of the best contemporary suspense writers today. The only downside to the book were times where it seemed events took place that didn't need to; events that seemed more interior character studies than contributing essences to the story. Nonetheless, "Double Image" is a chilling, haunting tale of action, suspense and romance. It's chock full of plot and entertaining story and readers are sure to enjoy it. On the reverse side it may not be what Morrell fans are used to, albeit this only adds to the fun and thrill of the book.

Summary: An amazingly crafted novel of haunting suspense!
Review: David Morrell has outdone himself with this one. The first half of the book flies along like a typical suspense novel, but halfway through, things change and the second half of the book takes the same character into a world of haunting romance and obsession and a different kind of suspense.

In a sense, you get two excellent thrillers for the price of one, but to take it beyond the obvious, you need to pay attention to the crafting of the book. It folds back on itself to have plot points in the last half mirror plot points in the first half. You have past and future intermingling as well as if the book is double-exposed. It's an amazing novel.

David Morrell has pushed the envelope of what a suspense novel can do. Even if you normally don't like thrillers, give this one a chance. If you're a thriller fan, then be adventurous and follow Morrell into a new area. If you give it a chance, you'll find that it has so many levels that you'll appreciate it all the more.

A brilliant and intricate novel!

Summary: poorly crafted "double story"
Review: David Morrell is one of my favorite action authors. Usually a great story teller. But, Double Image is poorly crafted with one story and one buried short story that doesn't fit well into the novel. I was very disappointed!

Summary: a fantastic novel by a great author
Review: DAVID MORRELL's novel FIRST BLOOD is very famous in CHINA.The VCDs of it are in the drawers of numerous foreign-film lovers. When I first hold this book in my hands ,I was so haunted that I finished reading it in 2 days, and please notice, English is foreign language to me.Yes, the plot seems loose, but I think the book reveals that woman,as well as man can be extremely dangerous and woman's is more difficult to define from appearance. It is a novel about apparent and hidden evils.I hope from the bottom of my heart that some director will make a film of it ,I'm sure it will be a great success, just like FIRST BLOOD.MR.DAVID MORRELL,there is a fan from CHINA who will support always.

Summary: Different, but still as compelling as ever
Review: Double Image is a slight departure from Davids other recent work, but is still an excellent read. Less action thriller and more psychological, it reminds me of when I first saw Vertigo and couldn't wait to learn the answer to the mystery.

In typical Morrell fashion the descriptions are vivid and the pace is perfect. There are no 'rough spots' to get through where the story drags, and every time you have to put it down you feel like you're missing out on something. I am very thankfull that David has never subscribed to the Clancy and King motto of 'bigger is better'. My biggest problem with David's work is that I stay up all night reading and am tired at work.

Summary: One of the most awesome mysteries ever written!
Review: Double Image reflects a writer's ability to capture his audience from the beginning and keep them captive until the end. It is a mastery of descriptive elements, unprecedented tone, and an anticipatory plot. Kudos to the author! Great Job!

Summary: Haven't finished it yet...
Review: I actually shouldn't give this book a rating, because I haven't finished it yet... Which to me, speaks for itself considering that I don't buy hardcover and waited impatiently for this book to come out... it took forever.. I finally after a year pick it up and bring it home... and I still have to make it to the middle of the book... I put it down after a couple of days an haven't gone back... I agree with others... his older books are the best... my personal favorite is Fraternity of the Stone... and I wish to God that someone would make a movie out of *that* one... or Testament... or most of them... But the fact I havent gone back to read this... I think speaks for itself.. Ill make another effort and re-review then... in the meantime... I want to say to David Morrell... there's nothing wrong with writing in a different style and trying something new... however, you just don't write volumes and volumes like say, Dean Koontz, therefore, I would suggest that if you're going to play with style, keep pumping out more of the types of books that got you a loyal following, and then when you have two books published so closely together, one wouldn't feel cheated, after waiting such a long time for one of your works to be released... even on Hardcover.... I patienly await the return of Drew.... or Saul...

P.S. I checked out Cancun International Hotel & the Mayan ruins... I must say, it was great being at those places knowing you had been there too! Your descriptions of the these, especially the hotel restaurant were perfect!

Summary: Where, please, is the David Morrell of yore?!
Review: I agree with the "reader from Texas" -- I was very disappointed in this book. I've read almost everything Mr. Morrell has written, and feel that his work has declined in his last two books. I think his earlier post-"First Blood" was terrific; maybe he needs a sabbatical. But I basically skimmed the last two-thirds of the book, wanting to know the who-dun-its and why-dun-its; if it hadn't been a David Morrell book, I don't think I'd have bothered to finish it, but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Summary: Typical Morrell - Excellent
Review: I have always been a big fan of Morrell, and decided to buy this book despite some of the bad reviews on this web site. I am so glad I did because this was typical Morrell. As with all his others books, I was completely unable to put the book down until I finished. Both stories fit well together, and I highly recommend this book as well as all other Morrell novels.
