Rating: Summary: Don't Believe the Hype/ Know What You're Buying Review: High Frequency Spanish, the 8 cassette course by Language Dynamics, is identical to Audio Fluency Spanish, marketed by the same company. Another customer on Amazon complained that Audio Fluency Spanish is identical to All You Need To Know In Spanish, again, marketed by Language Dynamics!Language Dynamics has merely developed a single Spanish course, then re-titled and re-packaged it numerous ways. The 2 and 4 casette programs for sale are likely re-edited versions of the same course. If you have purchased a language course from this outfit, I urge you not to purchase another one in the same language. You'll simply be paying additional money for the same material. On its website, Language Dynamics offers no street address, no phone number, no customer service, and no return policy. It's a mail order business with only a P.O. Box number that now sells on the Internet. The program content of the tapes, omitted from the advertising, is a lot of instruction in English, and the Spanish instruction primarily nothing more than recitation: days of the week, months of the year, numbers, names of countries, hour of day ("It's one o'clock, it's two o'clock), the weather (It's hot, it's cold), all of which is normally contained in the first chapter of any college textbook. Language Dynamics claims that your experience will be fast, easy, and fun. Other reviews say so. But, you will not learn very much conversational Spanish. Buyer beware.
Rating: Summary: Forget the text as a guide; good for beginning level only Review: I really looked forward to using this set after having heard some of the other good reviews on here. I was a bit disappointed. First, the book is entirely too poorly organized for easy use. There are two sets of pages, apparently, with scattered "Practica" and "Resumen" sections, and it's impossible to tell to where the author directs you. Second, the tapes seem pretty short on each side. Perhaps it's because there is a lot of pausing. Third, too many typos. Fourth, Luis, the native speaker on the tapes reminds me of a servant, being told what to say here and there. Granted, there has to be direction... it just seems a bit strained and Luis doesn't seem to enjoy himself at all. Good for beginners and people who want sentence-type knowledge without a lot of substance.
Rating: Summary: Real Communication, Really Fast Review: Language Dynamics courses are the only courses I know of that are truly dedicated to effective and immediate communication in the target language. Academic courses often reflect the literary interests of professors, many of whom never had the experience of learning the target language as a second language. With these courses, you can hit the streets after every lesson knowing you can say more than you could yesterday.
Rating: Summary: More Hype Than Substance... Review: Mark Frobose certainly seems to have the market cornered on foreign language courses, and that's great, in and of itself. I do believe though that these high speed frequency courses are slightly over-hyped. I am presently majoring in Spanish and received this course as a Christmas gift, so I could use it to supplement my standard Spanish classroom course studies. The problem I had with this series is the organization of the text in conjunction with the cassette program - there isn't any, or hardly any at all. The author jumps several pages ahead at a time with no guidance as to how the student should follow the text, as well as, guidance into the effective use of the written excercises (he often will throw in additional vocabulary and sentence structures that hasn't even yet been covered - a major pet peeve of mine!). He should follow his own advice and go for quality, and not necessarily speed. I do believe in many of his language learning approaches, but it's a shame he couldn't bother to at least edit the book properly either. That is another pet peeve of mine, as I continue to find several mistakes with regards to vocabulary, translations, and incorrect answers. It is necessary for people to understand that learning a language "can" be fun, but at the same time one must realize that it takes a lot of patience, and hard work over the course of several years (at least to get to the point of "absolute" fluency.) This course, nor any other, can take the place of learning a language the old fashioned way, through slow, sometimes tedious, classroom study. It is a necessary evil. I WOULD reccomend this course to those who want to to use it as a SUPPLEMENT to their standard coursework. It certainly helps with the reinforcement of Spanish grammar and its applications. Don't buy it, if you think you can learn fluent spanish with just this - it won't work! Take classes, supplement it with additional materials of your own choosing, and study abroad in some of the foreign language immersion courses, for that is truly the only way to become fluent. Buena suerte.
Rating: Summary: BY FAR THE FASTEST AND EASIEST WAY TO LEARN SPANISH! Review: Speaking High Frequency Spanish is the fastest and easiest way to learn Spanish. I have tried other Spanish courses sold on Amazon, and without knocking them I must say this one is special. All of what you learn from this course is immediately relevant to the Spanish speaking world. I thank Language Dynamics for taking the time to really understand how difficult it can be to come from speaking little or no Spanish at all to hearing and speaking Spanish or any language for the first time. I feel that this course does what the company motto promises 'to take the foreign out of language'. I have learned to speak a lot of Spanish thanks to the rich native voice of Luis and the helpful explantions of the American instructor. I also used (and continue to use) the handy manual that comes with the course. It is complete and has answer keys and a tapescript (which also helped tremendously) and was fortunately small enough to fit in my jacket pocket. Two thumbs up for 'Speaking High Frequency Spanish'. Me ayudo muchisimo!
