Rating: Summary: A classic in the making. Review: Having read the first in this trilogy, Death Rides A Chestnut Mare, I couldn't wait for this book to come out. I knew Mr. Compton had passed away, but once I saw Ralph Cotton's name on the cover, I knew Mr. Compton had left his work in good hands. The characters, Danielle and her brothers Tim and Jim, are as real, as tough, and as honest as a sawmill dollar. I recommend this book for both adults and young people who like reading about the old west as it was, writing by men who understand it. I can't wait to read the next one, Misery Express, coming out in April.
Rating: Summary: Good action book Review: Howdy folks, I'm James Drury. I used to play the Virginian on television, and now I read books on tape. It's a lot of fun and has given me a lot of chances to read books like this one by Compton, as well as books by Kirby Jonas, William Johnstone, and Elmer Kelton. This book is one that will appeal to any audience who enjoys a lot of action in their books and some enjoyable characters. Kirby Jonas is by far the best writer of Westerns, in my opinion, but this book by Compton certainly puts him in the running, and I think once you read it you will agree. It keeps you hanging on until the very last page. Believe me, you won't want to put it down. For another treat, try Kirby Jonas's The Dansing Star next, and then Compton's Death Rides a Chestnut Mare.

Rating: Summary: The shadow of a noose Review: I enjoyed reading THE SHADOW OF A NOOSE. I simply couldn't put it down, and ended up reading it all in one day. It was fast-paced and had believable characters. I especially liked how the author portrayed the west. Here's what it's about:After their mother's death, young twins Tim and Jed decide to go after their sister, who has been on the trail of their father's murderers for the past year. They have a not-particularly-auspicious beginning to their journey in the form of a murder accusation. After they get disentangled from that scene, they're finally on their way, meeting up with several shady characters, including their sister in disguise! They begin to learn that not everybody can be trusted, and that keeping your honor can be difficult. Finally, they end up at a shooting contest in an outlaw town, where they meet up with their sister again, as well as many of their father's murderer's, including the leader, Newt Grago. Plenty of close calls and gunfights at high noon speed this book to a climax that doesn't disappoint. I would recommend this book to any true western fan.
Rating: Summary: The Shadow of a Noose Review: I have read Death Rides a Chestnut Mare and have just finished The Shadow of a Noose. In reading these books with the description that Mr. Compton uses in his writings, I can visualize the canyons, the towns, the cattle drives and the shoot outs. I have read many books that really turn me off on the writer, however, I would highly recommend Ralph Compton's books to anyone. I rate him with Louis Lamour, who, in my opinin was one of the greatest western writers.
Rating: Summary: The Twins Review: Jed and Tim Strange are twins and brothers of Daniele. She left home about a year ago to find and [destroy] the murderers of her father. Now the twins have just lost their mother to an illness, and are on their way to find and help Dan. The boys are not equal to Dan in [weapons] and survival, and find themselves in constant trouble, and chased by the law. Never the less you will find this a moving story and fun to read.

Rating: Summary: Western Pleasure Review: This book was as good as all the outhers i have read by Ralph Compton. Mystery, adventer, and realism of what it was like to live in the mid 1800,s. I have lost count on just how many of his books i have read. But i have never been disapponted with any of them. Only wish he could write a lot faster. I have also read Death rides a chestnut mare. Can not wait for the third book to come out. Demon,s pass is also wounderful.
