Rating: Summary: Yet another Terry McMillan Imitator Review: This book is a crude rip-off of the Terry McMillan "you-go-girl" genre. It is silly, imitative and pointless. I guess this just proves that no publisher ever went broke underestimating the tastes of black female readers. But that's publishing, especially where black markets are concerned. The marketing mavens see a vein of sales, and then mine it until that market is so saturated with knock-offs that nobody sells anything. At that point they move on to the next "new thing". There's a raft of books like this that are being dumped wholesale into the marketplace, with the result that a great many black female writers with potential are simply not learning the craft of serious writing. A waste and a shame.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely awesome!!!! Could not put it down. Review: This book was absolutely awesome. I could not put it down; I tried to read it in one day. I even took it to work to read during breaks. These are certainly words my mother used to tell me: "You make your bed hard and you'll lie in it." I thought it was silly, but it is the honest-to-God truth. Keep up the good work ladies.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK I EVERY READ Review: MY SISTER TOLD ME THIS WOULD BE A GOOD BOOK. I HAD MY DOUBTS, BUT NOT ANY MORE. I READ THIS BOOK IN A DAY, AND COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN UNTIL I FINISHED. THIS BOOK IS A TRUE TEST OF FRIENDSHIP. IF YOU HAVE A BEST FRIEND, HOLD ON TO IT TROUGH THICK AND THIN, BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT FRIENDSHIP IS. YOU GO GIRLS!! I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL YOUR NEXT BOOK COMES OUT. YOU HAVE A FAN FOR LIFE.

Rating: Summary: THE BEST I'VE READ ALL YEAR Review: LOVED IT!!!!!! This book was the book of the month for my book club, I read it in one night. It told the true story of friendship. I recommend it to all of by sisterfriends out there. I really look forward to more from these authors in the future. Watch out Ms. McMillan, these girls have got your number!
Rating: Summary: A Great Sister/Girlfriend Story! Review: "Tryin' To Sleep" is a great read about what real friendship is all about. The authors show you what can happen to a friendship when you let bull_ _ _ _ get in the way. Although the characters were highly immersed in drama, I must admit I stayed up a night or two to see how the characters were going to survive his or her particular drama. This is a very good effort for the first time novelists and I eagerly anticipate their second effort.
Rating: Summary: Love it! Love it! Love It! , I really laughed and cried. Review: I've only read the first twelve chapters, but I really cried and laughed. I've never in life read a book that touched me the way that Tryin has. DeBerry and Grant wrote a book that I can actually gossip about with my girlfriends and at the same time relate to. This book is like reading a day time soap that you truly do not want to end. Gayle and Pat are best friends that are different but yet the same in so many ways. I commend the authors on a job well done and hope that there will be a sequel.
Rating: Summary: Too Much Drama Review: I write fiction about black love and families, etc., so I was very excited to see purchase and read this book. I think that although the book was well written, it had too many dramatic situations. Admittedly, I couldn't put the book down, because I was dying to see what would happen to the main characters, but at the same time, I felt overwhelmed by the series of tragedies taking place in the main characters' lives. I think it was a good first try for the authors, but I would like to see less twists and turns in future works.
Rating: Summary: Not for readers who like Jackie Collins or V.C. Andrews Review: I thought the book was cute, but it did not hold my interest very long. I found some parts that made me want to keep going. But wants they had my interested and answered the questions, I lost interest again.
Rating: Summary: THE AUTHORS ARE INCREDIBLE Review: I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!! WHERE HAVE DONNA AND VIRGINIA BEEN ALL OF MY LIFE? THIS BOOK WAS SO REALISTIC, I CAN REALLY RELATE TO THE CHARACTERS GAYLE, PAT AND MARCUS. I CAN'T WAIT TO READ THEIR NEXT BOOK. EXCELLENT, MUST READ!!!
Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK I'VE READ THIS YEAR!!! Review: Tryin' is a compelling story about friendship, family and love. It is a realistic book that is a must for anyone that has experienced losses and allowed the spirit of friendship to prevail. I'm anxiously awaiting DeBerry and Grant's next project.
