Rating: Summary: The BOMB! Review: I had heard bits and pieces about reviews on this book but was a bit skeptical. I don't like romance novels (just dressed up trash, in my opinion) and I was afraid this would be another "boy meets girl, boy likes girl, girl hates boy, girl falls in danger, boy rescues girl, girl loves boy but won't admit it" line. I was pleasantly surprised! The authors did a fantastic job of making you feel a part of this novel. I believe most Black people can either identify with the characters in this book or know someone like them so it was very easy to be a part of the story. It also proved that true friendship, although it suffers its ups and downs, can survive the hardest struggle. That's what this book was all about to me; not necessarily a love story but a story of True Friends.
Rating: Summary: the book was the best that i have read in a long while. Review: the characters were believable, the authors dealt with the promblem of gambling in a realistic and honest manner. Once you think you have the ending figure another twist is added to the plot.
Rating: Summary: This was an exellent book ! Review: These Authors get "Two thumbs Up" ! This book was something that many could relate to. Many of us have friends that we need to forgive, and forget things that happened in the past. Thank you ladies for helping me to see that through your wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: TUGS AT ALL THE EMOTIONS! Review: I just finished reading this book, and it is very good, however, it made me so mad because of all the drama these characters faced. I wanted happiness for Pat, and peace for Gayle and Marcus. In the end they found it, but the book did not tell what Gayle does with her new found luck in the end. All I can hope for is a sequel. Great book girls!!!
Rating: Summary: A must read book. An excellent first novel Review: This novel was an excellent good reading. I can't wait until the next novel comes out from these writers. The story lines details excellent real life events, moments, hopes and dreams. No matter what an individual looks like, their environment, their hopes, dreams or greatest satifications; it can be achieved no matter what obstacle comes into ones life. I really enjoyed the characters they were real life people, with real problems and solutions that were and are achieveable. Writers please hurry up and write another one please. I am reading this book again as I am writing this review. I maybe living Pat's and Marcus's dream too.
Rating: Summary: Discovering your true self Review: This novel was enlightening. I'm still talking about it and I read it months ago. It never lost any of it's momentum. It was captivating, made you want to slap Gayle out of her sillyness-force Pat to open up-Shout at Pat's mother for her neglect and shake your head at Ramsey's greed. The authors truly captured the nuiances of Gayle & Pat's friendship...sisterhood. Not only did they do that, they drew a circle with their words-what truly struck me is how things came full circle. Pat was a loner and Gayle's family opened their home to her. Gayle, although misguided in her 'youth'; did eventually grow up. She lost all of what she had, but despite it all she still had Pat to turn to. And then it came full circle; Pat opened her home to Gayle. That book had me so drawn in, showed me (again) how we can judge one another. Because we think we might have more than others or because we have less and think that we deserve to have what they have. I sent the book to my Dad, I never thought that something I just picked up, just out of curiosity was going to be so "rich". It was REAL. It also was instrumental in demonstrating that SECRETS can destroy your true nature. But Life is a journey, and the authors took us back into Gayle and Pat's youth, straight to adulthoood, through the ups & the downs. They did an EXCELLENT job and I'm looking forward to their next book. When you know who you are, you have no choice but to make that bed & you just have to sleep in it no matter the consequences. READ THE BOOK, you wont be dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: Very touching book Review: I thought the story was very well written and it held my attention to the end. I laughed, cried and sighed though the entire book! Many of the struggles that Gayle went through, I experienced so I could relate. Some people felt there was too much "drama", but that is not true. The situations in this book are or have been real-life situations for some of us.....
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT!!LOVED IT!!LOVED IT!! LOVED IT!! LOVED IT!! Review: I am reading this book for the 3rd time. The first time I read it I couldn't get it off of my mind. I felt like I grew up with Pat & Gayle. The way Virginia Deberry & Donna Grant took me(personally) into their lives and exposed the good times and the not-so-good times was incredible. I encourage everyone I know to read this book and when they read it they have the same response as me: THEY LOVE IT!!!
Rating: Summary: Interesting,! you can't judge a book by its cover Review: This is truly a great book. I enjoyed reading and I felt close to Gail, Pat and Freddy's brother. I, too, am looking forward to part two. When I saw the artwork on the cover, my first thought was oh, another.....But I was wrong. I have shared the book with relatives and friends. I must say I felt the book was too coincidently. However, I was happy to learn that PJ certainly did get what was due him and yes Ramsey slept in the bed he made. I found my personality to be somewhat like Pat's personality. The deeper the hurt the more stubborn she became. Well I could go on and on but I am so grateful that the two of you wrote this book. Keep up the good work.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: This books has the word 'friendship' dripping from the pages, because there is no way that, as a friend, I could have allowed Gayle to endure the hardship she encountered with her husband, Ramsey. How could she be so naive? But then again, when Ramsey entered her life again and asked for the picture of their daughter, I thought that maybe, just maybe, he was being sincere. How wrong I was. Wonderful book
