Summary: Wow! Just What I Needed!!!!
Review: I just purchased this book the other day, and I have to say that when I read the first few pages within the first chapter, it was almost like the book was created strictly for me!! Seeking spiritual leadership has been my heart's desire for a while now. Anyone that takes spiritual covering seriously should grab this book, it's not only for those seeking a spiritual father/mother in the Lord, but also displays how you are to obey and regard those that are accountable for your soul, as well as, assisting your spiritual parents in aiding them in the call of God for their lives. Juanita Bynum Weeks, this book is excellent!!

Summary: The Shepherding Movement is Revived
Review: This book is just another avenue for the Shepherding Movement to be rekindled. The "covering" philosophy is not a biblical one.The word covering is not even mentioned in this context in the Bible. It is an adaptation of the "Shepherding Movement" doctrine started back in the 70's in Fort Lauderdale Florida. The only covering the body of Christ needs is Jesus himself.Remember Psalm 23. This is exactly what Martin Luther of Germany wanted the church to get away from. In him we have the father of the Protestant Reformation which broke away from Catholic Authoritarianism, which told people that they had to speak with a preist in order to have their sins atoned for. The Catholics were taught that they did not have a direct link to God themselves and are still taught that to this day. However the bible clearly says that we can go to God for ourselves and that we do not need "Father Flannigan" to keep us from error because we have the Holy Ghost. Byunum does not believe this at all, she thinks we will stray if we do not have spiritual parents who keep us in "check" we are then called "bastards". Which is a lie from the pit of hell. There is nothing wrong with having spiritual parents who can foster your growth and yes we should love and reverence those who are feeding us the Word of God. But people like Mrs. Bynum-Weeks will take it to the next level as if your blessing will be cut off if you do not jump through hoops for your man or woman of God. Many people who have taken on the Shepherding/Covering philosophy have misused and abused people in the name of God and tried to control them. In other words, if a "shepherd" tells you to do something that you may find to be contrary to the Spirit of Christ in you or the Word of God, you must still obey because this person is your covering. This is what Juanita believes. She believes that she can hear the voice of God better than her flock and therefore this puts her in a superior position and makes others nothing more than dumb sheep who can not hear the voice of God for themselves which invalidates the work of the Holy Spirit or Christ as your main intercessor. She is trying to introduce the Black community to the Shepherding movement and aid in re-enslaving Black people once again except the new master looks like us and stands behind the pulipt. She may not be consciously aware of it, but this is what the outcome produces. It give pastors total control and the ability to manipulate people and stunt their followers growth especially if it's not done in the right spirit. I pray the good pastors that are still out there will not be deceived.
