Summary: A peek into the boardrooms & bedrooms of Silicon Valley.
Review: "'The Deal' is smartly conceived and delivers on its promise. Hutsko turns Apple Computer's boardroom power-play rivalry into a compelling page turner." -- Po Bronson, author of "The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest"

"'The Deal' is the real deal, a fun-to-read novel loaded with inside knowledge of Silicon Valley." --Steven Levy, author of "Insanely Great: The Life and Times of Macintosh"

"While daily life in Silicon Valley can be stranger than fiction--it's still a treat to read Joe Hutsko's 'The Deal.' Tracking on experiences of real-life companies, it's hard not to try to figure out who is who in this gripping roman-a-clef novel. If you want to understand the machinations of the moguls and mogul-wannabes who are capturing the nation's attention, 'The Deal' will give you an entertaining primer and informative glimpse into this unusual world." -- Kara Swisher, Reporter, San Francisco bureau of the Wall Street Journal

"Joe Hutsko, [former Apple chairman] John Sculley's personal technical advisor for many years, takes us on a fictional tour from the board rooms of America's largest computer technology companies to the bedrooms of its executives, providing a rare insight in what happens in this not-so fictional world." --William R. Hearst III

"Money, ego, power-Joe Hutsko has written a classic boardroom farce, a romp through Silicon Valley's executive suites that will make you think twice about computers, business, and the destructive potential of soda-pop cans. --Frank Rose, author of "West of Eden: The End of Innocence at Apple Computer"

"A wild expose of the real soap opera that made front pages and computer industry history." --Digby Diehl, Literary Correspondent for ABC-TV's "Good Morning America"

"Reading 'The Deal' is like being a fly on the ultimate Silicon Valley boardroom wall. Hutsko combines an insider's knowledge with a storyteller's craft." --Gloria Nagy, author of "A House in the Hamptons," "Marriage," and "Looking For Leo"

"Wow! A computer bug's-eye-view into the human side of a monumental segment of Silicon Valley business. With panache and insight, computer-biz insider Hutsko has written a corker of a novel about a computer business deal that will change the world...Or perhaps already has. Insightful, engrossing and terrific." --David Bischoff, author of "Hackers," "Wargames"

Summary: Dull writing; trite characters; predictable plot
Review: As a Silicon Valley guy, I was hoping for a good fictionalized account of how the valley works. Unfortunately, all I got was a rather thinly veiled portrayal of the Sculley/Jobs battle, rather poorly written. I didn't feel anything for any of them, and didn't see much depth or humanity in them. Even CEO's and marketing guys deserve better than this!

Summary: Don't pick it up because you won't put it down
Review: Great "I wish I was a mouse" review of the Silicon Valley Upstart, Apple. Absolutely entertaining to read, but forget your chores, work, sleep, etc. You won't put it down. This will definitely be a best seller.

Summary: Bravo!
Review: I could not put this book down! Excellent reading - cannot wait for the movie!

Summary: Entertaining at times, but pretty hackneyed overall.
Review: I found this insider look at the soap-opera like actions of the corporate world to be an excellent read. I have often imagined it to be exactly as described and this only tends to confirm that thought!

Summary: Excellent view from the inside! Makes me want a laptop, too.

Summary: Wow. Can I go again.
Review: I hope they make a movie. I really had fun with this book

Summary: Entertaining at times, but pretty hackneyed overall.
Review: I wanted very much to like this book, as I'm intimately familiar with the subject matter (handheld computers, technology, etc.). But the story is trite, contrived, and filled with rather silly twists. Even worse, one feels no empathy for any of the characters, most of whom are two-dimensional at best. If you're looking for good "Silicon Valley" novels, check out "Microserfs" and "The First $20 Million is Always the Hardest."

Summary: Very Entertaining
Review: Joe Hutsko recreates the real life power struggle of Apple's executives' officers in his latest book, The Deal. It is hard not to have Steve Jobs, John Scully, Apple, IBM, Microsoft, Intel, and the Wintel alliance in mind as you are reading this novel. Nevertheless, it is a very entertaining piece of reading. It surely beats any chessy soap opera shows on TV with its additional insider knowledge of the workings of Sillicon Valley's technology corporations. Many events in the story happen because of chance and coincidence, the typical elements in a conventional fiction plot. But if you are just looking for a time out and fun, this is it!
