Rating: Summary: True Adventure Thrill Review: Grande Wilbur! This is one of the mr.Smith best book: great adventure, great characters, great love and fights.Read it on the beach or under the sun in the swimming pool as everybody did here in Italy in this sultry summer of '99.
Rating: Summary: A typical Wilbur Smith thriller that keeps you rivetted. Review: Wilbur Smith has done it again. Having read all of his works it always amazes me how Wilbur manages to captivate his audience. After the adventures in Eqypt with the River Gods and The Seventh Scroll I could not fathom how Wilbur could possibly out do himself - but he has, and convincingly. I recommend Monsoon to anyone if you truly love adventure and a sense of history.
Rating: Summary: An excellent read!! Filled the void left by Patrick O'Brien Review: Having read all of Patrick O'Brien's Aubrey novels, I went looking for a worthy replacement. While lacking in the period details and vernacular, Birds of Prey and Monsoon were more than fulfilling. I heartily endorse!!
Rating: Summary: Very fasinating book Review: I read Bird of prey and I thought that was very good but this book is excellent. I give this arthor full credit how to weave and excellent story alot of imagnation. To me they could make these stories into a movie and it be worth every cent they ask for. I hope he writes more on this type of stories in the future. I read a couple of others of his book and wasn't dissappointed but these two I really like the most.
Rating: Summary: Classic adventure tale from Smith Review: I generally prefer historical fiction adventure novels set in more recent times, like "The Triumph and the Glory" or "From Here To Eternity", but Wilbur Smith has outdone himself with "Monsoon". His vivid writing style and skillful action scenes always carry his books, and Monsoon is no exception. I don't think it quite matches his best, but it is undeniably exciting reading. Never a dull moment from Wilbur Smith.
Rating: Summary: Swashbuckling Fans!! Review: First a warning for those who will read these reviews before picking up this book. Do not read the review from Harry Odum, it's a complete spoiler. I thought this book was very enjoyable, however I found it over wordy and a little slow at times. The best part of this story is Mr. Smiths swashbuckling sceens, which are among the best in print.
Rating: Summary: This is great Review: I have really enjoyed all of Wilbur Smith's books starting with the River God. Birds of Prey and Monsson are my favorites as they are so full of action and adventure. Wilbur, if your reading this...I am looking forward to more swashbuckling adventure from you.
Rating: Summary: Praise from Smith's #1 Fan Review: He is brilliant. His words are a delicious brew that will keep you captivated for days on end, and although each page you turn fascinates you more, you regret the fact that you are ever so close to the end...Monsoon is Wilbur Smith's finest work to date. Levs01@go.com was right; the long wait since Birds of Prey was well worth it. Ignore the critics; this book is so easy to relate to that you are unable to differentiate its plot from your own memories by the time you are done. On behalf of my country (Peru), Mr. Smith, I congratulate you for your latest masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: Boring , repetitive and adolescent Review: Having read all of Wilbur Smiths books and considered him a wonderful writer, he seems to be churning out boring narratives. I thought Birds of Prey was terrible but gave him the benefit of the doubt. However Monsoon is dire. The repetitive descriptions and sex scenes are laughable and occur so often as to bore you to death. They are cliche ridden and appear to ber better suited to some cheap romantic novel. I think Wibur Smith is living on his previous great books but after two disappointments I will not be trying for a third.
Rating: Summary: WILBUR SIMITH OUT DOES HIMSELF Review: From start to finish, Wilber Smith keeps you entertained, wondering what will happen next.Your imagination is kept busy visualising what each scene would look like as if you are right there. Refering back to Birds of prey through out, you are reminded of trials and events of 20 years past that are now being re-lived. From River God to Monsoon, this is a wining receipe. I look forward to his next novel
