Rating: Summary: Natalie Cole's Book is "Unforgettable" Review: Ms. Cole shared her amazing story with such candor and beauty that it showed that she is one courageous lady. In this book you come away from her story feeling that you have really gotten a glimpse of her spirit in a special way that you rarely get from other stars autobiographies. She went past the superstar veneer and disclosed a myriad of sides to her life, love and music that will make it difficult to ever see her in the same light. She disclosed the good and the bad influences of her life. This lady definitely has some angels guiding her life.Aside from being Ms. Cole's story, it is a book of hope and triumph. Ms. Cole, thank you for opening your life in such a way that it not only shows more of who you are and the things that shaped you, but writing a book that affects the reader. It's one of those books that makes you look at your circumstances and say that I can rebuild my life too with the help of God. Really a powerful piece.
Rating: Summary: She's Got Truth On Her Mind Review: Natalie Cole opens up and tells a whole lot more than the conventional show business personality does in this eye-opening autobiography. She talks candidly about her life, family, career, friendships, marriages and, oh yes, she goes into some mighty detail about her now derailed drug habit. Kudos to Ms. Cole for her bravery and honesty in recounting her choices along the way and exposing some of her character defects and faulty thinking. She sticks closely to recovery tenets by telling her story, and hers alone. Even her mother and her ex-husband, Andre Fischer, arguably the heavies in this tome, are barely dusted with the brush Cole wields unblinkingly on herself. In essence, this is the longest 12-Step chair I've ever heard - and the fastest read. It brings up one question: If the parts in the book were so juicy, can you imagine what the parts left out are like? Congratulations to Natalie Cole for the most personal self-help book in years and for truly using restraint of tongue and pen.
Rating: Summary: The Cole legacy lives on!! Review: Natalie Cole, versatile superstar singer and daughter of the unforgettable Nat "King" Cole, chronicles her amazing life in this autobiography. Frank and revealing, Natalie tells about growing up in a famous family; the devastating effects of losing her father when she was 15; her ascent into drug abuse and how it nearly destroyed her life and career; her complex relationship with her mother, Maria Cole; the phenomenon of her comeback with the multi-platinum, Grammy-winning UNFORGETTABLE...WITH LOVE CD, a loving dedication to her father; an abusive marriage, her struggle to uphold her family legacy, and much more. This book is honest and sincere, and although it may seem as if in some parts she's venting, well, maybe it's because she needed to. It made me laugh out loud, shed some tears, and think...because many of her experiences mirrored ones in my life as well. Not everyone may have grown up as the child of Nat King Cole, but there are situations in this book I feel everybody can identify with. If it's not happening to you, it's a sure bet that you know someone who went through it, or is going through it. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Inspiration Review: Natalie shares with astounding truth, humbleness, and shows us all how much she has been through, and how she - with the Divine help in her life - has triumphed from the darkest days. This book is an astounding beacon of hope for anyone who has been through both the highs and lows of life, and wants to genuinely rise from within. Natalie shares much about her childhood, her relationship with her relatives, and so much about her own life, and how many times she thought it was all over for her, only to see that she can rise again - no matter what she has been through. On a personal note, in 1995 I had dinner with Natalie, her candor and honesty took me back so much that I wrote about her with deep respect in my own book, 'Individual Power'. She is a true soul, and I have the utmost respect for her, the courage she has shown, and how she is a beacon of hope for others. If you want to read a book about one incredible woman, who humbly and candidly shows how no matter what you go through, you CAN triumph, I HIGHLY recommend this book. It is a gift that will touch you because of its authenticity. Thank you Natalie for being a beacon of Light and Hope for so many. Keep Going Girl - You are One Awesome Gem!
Rating: Summary: The making of a woman of God Review: Natile Cole unveils herself by becoming naked and transparent in away that most of us would never dare. I appreciated her honesty. Although she grew up with the finest things, she reveals through her trials and tribulations how life has tought her to be able to relate to the drug addict, the prostitute, the mentally insane, the motherless, and even the homeless. Through these catastraphic and seemless unnecessary events through her life, we learn that no matter how much we have, no one is exempt from the cares of this world. Natile Cole describes herself as a "Work in progress". We have loved her as the daughter of Nate "King" Cole, singer, actress and now we must learn to respect her as a woman becoming a woman of God. The book is very revealing and I highly recommended it.
Rating: Summary: A well written auoboiography Review: Surprisingly, this autobiography provides insight into the badtimes as well as the good times of Natalie Cole, the famous singer anddaughter of one of the all time music greats. Ms. Cole pulls nopunches as she discusses her love-hate relationship with her mother, the influence and worship of her father (to the point that the humanNat King Cole seems more like a statue on a pedestal than a flesh andblood man), and her former spouse's influence on her life and work. Fans of rock and roll will enjoy this insightful autobiographythat is well written. Although, there are no incredible shockers,Ms. Cole shines a light on herself and her extended family that givesreaders an opportunity to understand what motivates her. To the fansof Ms. Cole and her father ANGEL ON MY SHOULDER: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY OFNATALIE COLE is "Unforgettable"...
Rating: Summary: This book blew me away! Review: This book is a great read. I could not put it down. It is a in-depth portrayal of Natalie's life and you learn a lot about the music industry. The tidbits about her love for her father Nat and her spirituality really moved me. Reading this book was like being on an emotional rollercoaster. My only hope is that one last angel will intervene to permanently heal the wounds between Natalie and her mother.
Rating: Summary: Ok Review: This is the story of Natalie cole's life. Natalie's battle with drugs, and the death of her father is inclued in Angel on my shoulder. Natalie shares insight about her and her mom's troubled relationship. I throught the book was ok, but kind of boring at times, I would have liked it more if it would have been written more like a novel.
Rating: Summary: Bad girl with a heart of gold Review: USA audience have chance to know their celebrities better through TV,radio and interviews - here in Europe we got something like broken pieces of mirror and my only knowledge of Natalie Cole were her music and album covers.I remember looking at her striking face and piercing eyes, thinking what kind of person she possibly could be (somehow I had a feeling that her glossy, romantic, glamourous "Unforgettable" pictures are not really her) - this funny, witty and entertaining book gives me much better idea and yes,I was right,Natalie Cole is basically bad girl with a heart of gold.Driven with curiosity and sense of adventure, she is in many ways similar to Etta James - both women share this strong spirit and both are brave enough to admit when they were wrong in life.At one place Natalie mentioned her father's peronal way of singing (like singing just to you) and she achieved excatly same effect with this book written as she talks only to you and you can hear her laughter throught the pages of the book.Yes,the bitter mother-daughter relationship is dark shadow over the whole story but it makes her even more human in my eyes.I gulped the whole story in two days and felt great in Natalie's company, somehow I understand her and like much more than ever before - the personality behind that great voice is as strong and appealing as the voice itself.
Rating: Summary: The Girl has got Talent Review: What can I say? This is a book by a woman that has shown us not only can she sing but she can act as well. But now we see she's a writer too! With that aside this book had me laughing, it had me on the verge of tears. It had me shaking my head that one person could go through so much and still be here to talk about it! She is truly an open person when it came to sharing her life with us. Grab a copy of this book!
