Summary: Compelling Story of the Beginning of the New Millenium
Review: Imagine being a Jew, or Arab, or Roman in the Middle East, when a person named Christ spread his word throughout the land, performed unexplainable wonders and altered the world. How might you react to his claims and ministries? Now, imagine a new person who seems to match the biblical requirements, specified by the Bible, for the return of a Messiah. But add the instant global communications and technology of today, coupled with the occurance of the third millenium and mix in the volitle nature of man. Science Fiction? Novel? What do you call a story that mixes Biblical Prophesy with current technology and events so relevant to our time?

Summary: Timely in more ways than one
Review: A perfect story for new millennium, addresses many factors behind religious strife going on all over world. Until THE LAST DAY, no one has put forth a solution to the hatred, fighting and turmoil. This story does, in very refreshing, startling and dramatic way. Great suspense, great plot, great characters, and intelligent combining of arcane religious doctrine with contemporary events. Very involving. Wonderful entertainment and a whole lot more. Lots to think about here.

Summary: Terrific fun!
Review: Amazing novel. Have not enjoyed a book this much in ages. Truly fascinating story with extraordinarily unique and daring plot. Impossible to second guess, impossible to put down. Thought provoking and as original as they come. Can not get this one out of my mind.

Summary: A Catholic who loves this book
Review: Hey, I'm Catholic, and I didn't see anything in this novel to get upset about. Does it expose some problems with my religion? Certainly. Are those problems valid? (Just read the papers--Nazi gold, sex abuse, Church/state politics, paternalistic suppression of women, hidden wealth in the Church). Absolutley! Pointing out the flaws of a religion is not tantamount to criticizing God. Novels like The Last Day are important in bringing to light things that most religions choose to hide. Read it for a thrilling story, read it for the well researched theology, but most of all, read it for the honesty and courage it presents. No open minded person should find that offensive!

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: This is perhaps one of the most amazing novels I've ever read. You just don't find stories like this very often. Not only a thrilling action suspense adventure, but there's also a compelling message here. Unvarnished truth, and a wonderful perspective on how to solve all the religious bigotry, intolerance and arrogance that divides so much of the world (think Ireland, algeria, Boznia, etc. etc.) A special novel with a very important theme. Wonderful reading!

Summary: Breath of fresh air
Review: Boy does the world need a book like this! I'm so tired of all the preachers and do-gooders trying to cram their theologies down everyone else's throats. All the religions out there each think they're the one, true religion who's got it right. This book presents such an inspired idea--a messiah come to set the record straight. And does she ever! She minces no words and spares no egos in exposing all the pontificating phonies. This novel is great fun, very clever, and astonishingly well researched. Kleier is a classic story teller and a master of plot and suspense. More importantly, he speaks a bold truth that few people have had the guts to reveal. I look forward to his next work. And the next, and the next.

Summary: Brilliantly honest
Review: The "faithful" aren't going to like it one bit, but this one nails religious phonies to the cross. One hell of a powerful novel and a terrific read. Highest praise!

Summary: not grounded enough in fact to make it believable
Review: would only impress someone without a working knowledge of theology...

Summary: "Bombast and Bad Taste"
Review: The above quote is from the Publisher's Weekly review. After reading this for myself, I've got to agree. The enthusiastic reviews here are certainly consistent: they all share the author's prejudice against Catholics. I'm not Catholic, but the bigotry displayed here and in the novel is unsettling. The amazon sales rating for this unpleasant screed at least is evidence that the vast majority of readers have good taste. Nice to see crudely written hate mongering doesn't go over well. As to the thought police nonsense, let paranoia and bigotry speak for themselves.

Summary: Very different!
Review: Well, this isn't your garden variety suspense novel, is it? Can't remember the last time I found a book so fascinating and unusual. VERY intriguing plot! Turned my head around so often I feel like a corkscrew. The messiah figure is truly an archetype of literature. Never encountered any character quite like her. Also found Jon Feldman a very appealing character. His unique journey was remarkably sensitive and profound. I'm amazed at the number of reviews I found on this site--I stopped reading after 100. Wonderful to see this book has gathered such a vocal and devoted following. Add me in as one of its biggest fans.
