Summary: The most sad and emotional books I have ever read!
Review: This book was one of the best books I have ever read. It was full of emotion which made it really easy to read. I felt like I was going through all the situations in Ekaterina's life with her. Another reason this novel was so easy to read, was because it was a true story. It was somthing that had really happened and something that won't ever change. This is the type of book that once you start to read, you can't stop. I finished this book in exactly 3 days. I felt so attached to the family and their lives. I think I liked this book so much more than any other book because it was so intriging. I mean, I could never imagine going through what they went through. They went from world champions one day, to a normal family the next. It was absolutely amazing. I loved the emotions she portrayed in her writing. This line in particular brought goosebumps to my arms. "I remember walking back and listening to the crunching of the snow beneath our footsteps. The fields were all blanketed in white, and the moon gave us shadows. It was so beautiful and I was so happy. I wondered, Why me? Why am I so lucky? I was so young and small and shy, and Sergei could have had any nice long-legged girl. Why should he choose me?" These few sentences show so much of how she was feeling right then. She was in love and it showed through every little piece of description she used. And then this line after Sergei had just died on the ice. "I can't describe the feelings that went through me when I was walking into the room where Sergei was lying, his skates still on his feet. He didn't look dead. It looked like he was just sleeping. Even one eye was open a little bit, and the whole time I thought that maybe he was looking at me." These words stab at you like a knife you weren't expecting. Noone wanted him to die, but nothing could stop it either. This was, like I said before one of the best books I have ever read. I think I am biased though because I am a girl. If I was a guy, I don't think I would appreciate this book as much. It shows a lot of emotions of love and security that I think only girls may really feel. But, other than that, there is nothing that I would change about this book. It is excellent.

Summary: A very touching story.
Review: My Sergei is a very touching, loving and true story about a pair of skaters wanting to achieve their dreams. A very unique love story. Rarely found.

Summary: Easily, the most wonderful story I've ever read
Review: I know the one-line summary I gave may sound kind of odd to some people, but honestly it's true. Of course, I'd give almost anything to have a different ending, but I am glad that Katia gave us a look into her life and to let us, though posthumously, get to know Sergei, even just a little. Through this book, Katia lets us see Sergei as a human being, not just my skating hero. I never met either of them, and I really don't feel like I have a right to feel so strongly, but they were my skating idols. I do love them, as do many other people, and I believe that was part of their magic. I remember one time she said that if she kept on skating, people would remember Sergei, that in a way he will live forever and always be in existence. You know that quote "Mourn not the fact that he is gone, but give thanks for that he was?" When you read this book, and think about Sergei and Katia and Daria together and how they showed the world that sometimes there is such a thing as absolute and complete happiness, even if it is very brief, then somehow that line rings truer than ever. At the end you're so, so sad that he died, and yet at the same time you know Katia will be all right after all.

Summary: One word-CAPTIVATING
Review: My Sergei is not just a story. It is the most profound example of what we all long for in our lives:true happiness. Katia, in her own special way, tells of her and Sergei's life in such detail, from friendship, to lovers , to husband and wife, to mom and dad. Their life together was pure and simple, much like the book itself. A wonderful memior to an exeptional person and athlete.

Summary: The Best and Most touching book Ive ever read
Review: I never really heard of Katia and Sergei until this book came out, nut beleive me I wish I would have. When you watched them skate THEY WERE PERFECT. What I thought that was really great about this book was that Katia didnt hold anything back, everything she said was so honest and so full of love. The first time I looked at the pictures in this book I didnt fall in love with Katya and Sergei, it was Dasha, she is the cutest little girl Ive ever seen and I think that is very good for Katya to have Dasha. I thought the book touched on three main asspects of Katia's life and they were, her childhood, which she loved so much, her career, sometimes she gave too much for is the way she put it, and lastly her love of her family and the profound saddness that overwhelemed her at such a young age. It was the best book I think Ive ever read and I would recomend it to anyone who loves to read and learn about true love and the life of two of the greatest athletes in the world. Katya if you ever read this, I just want you to know that I think what you did was so brave and so honest. What you did for Daria and Sergei probably means more to them then any award you could get on the ice. Keep up your skating and your love for Daria, because she needs you and all that you can give her. Even though you won't win another gold medal in pairs skating, your courage and dedication to Dasha and your love for Sergei deserves all the 6.0's I can give. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story with the world.

Summary: A wonderful insight into the lovebirds private world!
Review: I enjoyed entering Sergei and Katia's world through the book. I would have enjoyed more pictures of Sergei. By himself, with Daria and Katia, and more fun and happy kinds of pictures. I could not put the book down when I bought it and continue to review its contents....I go straight towards the pictures now.

Summary: A perfect 6.0 for technique and presentation
Review: I received my copy of this book on the first anniversary of Sergei's death, which might sound like a ghoulish obsessed fan quote, but actually added resonance to the reading. 2 hours later I'd finished reading but I find myself now, almost 18 months on, occasionally picking up the book, flipping through and invariably being suckered into reading at least one chapter. E.M. Swift has done a marvellous job of capturing Katia's often-wry voice and her emotions at the time of writing, and Katia is to be complimented on her remarkable honesty in this retelling of her life before, with and immediately after Sergei.

G&G fans have been criticized for being too determined to hold onto an impossible 'fairy tale' but if anything, this book shows these weren't 2 kids swept away by passion. They were 2 people who truly liked and respected one another, and were devoted to their relationship, child, and to the sport that brought them fame, yet who also grew exasperated with one another at times--a normal relationship, not a fairy tale. Always, though, the love shone through. To many people, 'My Sergei' has been a call to do what you love to do, and to let those you love know how much they mean to you. THIS is why there are so many glowing reviews for the book; not only do we get to look into the lives of skaters we admire, but we understand how beautiful yet finite life can be.

'My Sergei' is a haunting tribute to what was and what could have been--and a signal of what WILL be, in Katia and Daria's futures. I wish there'd been no need to write the book, but to readers wanting an often-funny, poignant and insightful read, go no further. Spasiba, Katia and Sergei, for what you've given us.
