Rating: Summary: FIREBIRDS ON ICE! Review: Ice skating buffs will remember Sergei and Ekaterina's dazzling performances in Olympic and World Championships. They were like firebirds in the air, floating gracefully through daring moves that left the audience breathless. The book shares their life together, and the moment of his death resulting from a fatal heart attack without warning. In re-telling their love story, Katia is working through her own grief, seeking to build a new life for herself and their daughter Daria, and to skate again....alone. The book includes charming photographs, and yes life does go on. If you watch any of Scotty Hamilton's ice show productions, "Stars on Ice" or "Snowden" - Christmas televised ice Specials, you'll see Katia and Daria. And yes, that was Katia at Rockefeller Center on Good Morning America.
Rating: Summary: Beautifully Honest! Review: This is, of course, a book about a beautiful love story that has captured the hearts of G&G fans around the world. But, what impressed me the most about this book was it's honesty. Katia doesn't glaze over facts that her fans might not approve of or might be shocked by. She is brutally and beautifully honest about her life with Sergei both on and off the ice. It is an honesty which makes their love story all the more beautiful and the tragedy all the more poignant.
Rating: Summary: What a wonderful story. Review: If you loved the pair, you'll absolutely be in tears reading this book. I read it cover to cover in two days and enjoyed every minute of it. It is the only story I've seen so far that has done justice to Sergei Grinkov's memory and that is because it was written by his wife and true love. It is an inspiring novel of love and triumph, death and heartache. I highly, highly recommend it, but don't read the blurb on the flaps of the book, it's a terrible description of the book.
Rating: Summary: Tender memoir of Segei Grinkov Review: I have read and reread this wonderful biography. This book is a must for any fan of G&G (Gordeeva and Grinkov) and any lover of ice skating. Ekaterina lovingly tells her story of how they met, trained together, and fell in love. She also gives one a good idea of what life is like for an athlete in the Soviet Union. A touching love story.....I only hope someday she chooses to write a sequel about her struggles and ultimate triumphs since that sad day so long ago when Sergei breathed his last.
Rating: Summary: My Sergei Review: An Olympic Gold Medalist with all her dreams fulfilled, including having a little girl, lost half of her life when her husbanddied of a heart attack at 28, during a rehearsal of their skating routine. Ekaterina Gordeeva tells her life story in the compelling book "My Sergei." The book tells of a young girl's life and her journey to the top. It tells of her feelings and her emotional despair. She focuses mainly on her love and devotion to her partner and husband, and in the end her grief and sorrow when her only love leaves her and her daughter. This biography is definitely for those souls who enjoy an intriguing love story, and who like to learn from lessons that other people have lived.
Rating: Summary: Written From the Heart Review: We know the account to be true not only by the book but from documetaries and mouths of other skaters and entertainers. The woman who wrote this had eveyrthing taken away from her in a second and we gotta understand that it was probably not easy for her to write this account of that painful recalling. It was a bit redundant but for someone who is not a fluent-enligh speaker, it's awesome, and best of all written from the heart. Get this book now!
Rating: Summary: Enlighting, wonderful: need I say more? Review: I am a figure skater myself, so I could relate to all the hard work Ekaterina and Sergei went through. I think everyone will love all when Ekaterina wrote about her childhood and experiencing love with her lifelong partner. I thought that the book was so well writen that I could feel the pain she was going through when her love had died. Sergei was a great man as well as skater: which you can see in the story. Anyone who likes a nice love story or who figure skates themselves or just wants to learn more about the sport; I reccomend that you buy or borrow this novel. It is truley wonderful.
Rating: Summary: A sad ending to a fairy tale Review: After such a sad event I feound it very hard to read this book without constantly having tissues by my side. It would have to be one of the best love stories ever written - and it is easy to tell that Ekaterina had a lot to do with the writing of this book with all it's little innuendos. For her I think it was a way of being able to tell the world what a truely wonderful man Sergei really was.
Rating: Summary: A touching love story Review: I read this book 4 times and reading it again. It's a beautiful story because it's true and because it's written by a person who lived through it. "My Sergei" captures your hearts like no other book. Read it and you will never want to put it down. Ekaterina and Sergei are a fairy tale couple the world will never forget!
Rating: Summary: settle down Review: i did enjoy this book. but- this book was produced for a commercial market. we cannot comprehend what her real story was. those who loved this book so much should stop for a moment and realize this was written as a mere fantasy. let us not be naive to the reality of this "love story". what really went on?
