Rating: Summary: A well deserved best-seller Review: I had bought this book for myself and for a friend for a Christmas present. I found that this book is not simply a book about figure skating but a book about life. What I especially like about this book is that it is so easy to read (and if I didn't have to work or eat or sleep I probably could have stayed up all night to read this). I felt for Katia during the Olympics and her disappointment with ice cream sundaes, amazed that she could have hit the one and only car in the street during a parade in Russia, and cried when she made her final farewell to Sergei at the hospital. But I found that, in the end, Katia has emerged victorious. It is not a "typical" happy ending, but I became convinced that had the situation been reversed, the story would have never come out and it would have been a loss for skating fans and romantics alike. My friends and I thought it was worth the money spent
Rating: Summary: Bring on the AudioTape! Review: As a skating lover, I bought this book and enjoyed it more than I could have imagined. It is not just a skating story, but a love story that can be enjoyed by skating fans and non-fans alike. I enjoyed the quick pace of the book (finished in a weekend) and learned a lot about life in Russia. It was very eye-opening and made me glad to be an American. Core to the book is the love affair between Sergei and Katie. It was so real, and I felt a connection to many of the feelings Katie experienced throughout their relationship. I am amazed at her relatively quick come-back. It almost seems impossible. I will keep this book and will probably re-read at some point. I am now going to get the audiotape, read by the author, to really feel her words. This is the type of book that I would recommend to my family and friends without any embarrassment over the content
Rating: Summary: It was a excellent book that made me cry. Review: This book is a book I read over and over again.
It is one of the saddest stories I think I have ever read. It makes me cry each time I read it.
I am a big fan of Ekaterina Gordeeva and love to watch her preform. I watched her in pairs too. I
would like to hope I would have the strenght to face the tradedy she faced with such faith and hope. I wish for her only the best, and hope her and her daughter have a bright life together. The book reflects the kind of love I hope one day to find. I know it is rare and special but I still cling to the hope. The book was great and Ekaterina And Daria are in my prayers.
Rating: Summary: An amazingly frank and touching story Review: What an incredible story of 2 people who's lives were intertwined in every way. I was touched by Katia's candor - she reveals her true feelings
in a way that captured by attention and my heart.
I felt as though she was revealing her thoughts to a friend, not millions of readers.
I learned a great deal about Russian women and the
incredibly different lifestyle they lead.
Throughout the book I continued to feel fortunate
that I am an American. This is a quick read and not a typical love story.
I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: A Moving Masterpiece Review: This book is a beautiful testimony of true love. In Katia's memoir, she tells facts about their lives on and off the ice, and shares her emotions. She evokes humor in specific events of their incredible lives, and also a haunting nostalgia. It
wasn't until the end that I broke down into tears. In this book, Katia shares her feelings, and her love for Sergei.
This book is not about the tragedy that has befallen, but
about the courage of a young woman forced to give up what was
probably the most important aspect of her life, and to move on.
Rating: Summary: Best love story I've ever read Review: I totally loved this book. It shows that there really is such a thing as true love. But not only is it a story of
the love she and Sergei shared, but it is a story about a
life of figure skaters from Russia. I definetly this book
recomend to anyone who likes true stories of true love.
Rating: Summary: My Sergei Review: My Sergei, a Love Story is a passionate and heart warming story strait out of fairy tale heaven. The tale that Ekaterina Gordeeva tells sounds all too good to be true. Ekaterina tells of some of their struggles as young skaters and of the happy and joyful times that her husband and skating partner, Sergei and their adorable daughter, Daria shared. It is a very powerful and enjoyable story that you just won't be able to put down. My Sergei is sure to warm even the coldest of hearts. @---->-------
Rating: Summary: It is a beautiful book! Review: I love this book.I wish I had enough time to tell everything I like about it
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Autobiography of Two Beautiful Young People Review: I am 14 years old and although I have not experience love and romance yet, this book has truly helped me understand about what it truly means. It was so unfortunate that God took Sergei at such a young age. Katia did a wonderful job writing this book (if she really wrote it all). There is a lesson to be taught here-- it may seem that you have everything you could have, but it an instant tragedy happens. Sure, Katia is probably a millionaire--not like many of us and doesn't have much education, but she really is a normal person with normal feelings. I am sorry for her daughter, who does not have a father anymore. It took me only one day to read it and it was literally breathtaking! I can't imagine that there will ever be anything as good as My Sergei: A Love Story was. Tell Katia I said "Thanks!"
Rating: Summary: Love Story the Sequel Review: Two souls meeting on ice - that phrase pales
in light ot the true life love story of ice skating pair
champions, Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergie Grinkov.
As Russion Olympic gold medalists, they captured the
hearts of everyone who viewed their artistic
and sensitive skating style. From teenagers to
mature adults, their relationship is revealed in this
initimate biography which celebrates the lives of
skating partners and lovers who are separated by
Grinkov's sudden and untimely death. Gordeeva, who now performs as a singles' skater, resides in Simsbury, CT
with her young daughter. In My Sergie, she captures
with striking candor the spirit of dedication,
commitment and love which was witnessed for one brief shining moment by people in the skating venue and
worldwide
