Rating: Summary: Fascinating Collection of Little-Known Facts Review: This book should be required reading for the modern-day U.S. citizen that has been educated in the public schools. Far from a pro-slavery, black-helicopter seeing, gun-toting group of nuts, the authors have given many sources for their facts. They also make emphatic statements that they do NOT support the institution of slavery. Although I think modern-day secession is impossible for many reasons, knowing all the viewpoints (instead of just one) will be invaluable toward a record of history that is accurate. It is obvious that the North would be biased against the South, and vice-versa. This book presents the arguments from the latter's viewpoint. Before anyone wishes to write it off as a racist tome, please read it first(especially if you claim to be "open-minded").

Rating: Summary: Its the truth true Southerners have always known was "there" Review: This is the book Southerners have been waiting for; the real truth! Well documented, it is the book that, not only Southerners should read, but all Americans. It is the great snow-job of all time: Conquer the South and it's people so to take the assets, then put the blame on them for the war! The conquerers get to write the history books but now its time for the truth! I challenge pessimists to read it! Learn the atrocities of Union soldiers... thats right, and it is well-documented. True Southerners should not be found without this book!
Rating: Summary: An absolute MUST READ Review: This book is a great eye opener. The Kennedys present facts that are never taught in schools today. Having only been exposed to the federalist version of history, it is truly refreshing to learn of the long forgotten liberties that have been stolen from us and those that the founding fathers envisioned.
Rating: Summary: Right-wing wackos present some facts, ignore most Review: The authors implore their readers to look at "The South was Right" with an open mind. I certainly did, but that doesn't mean their conclusions are as solid as they present. First, the authors completely ignore the fact that the territorial expansion of slavery was a key issue. The South's political leadership wanted the make the institution perpetual, and even invade Mexico and the Caribbean in order to seize more land for the slavery. The Constitution clearly gave Congress the power to restrict slavery's expansion. Why did the authors skip this crucial debate? Because they knew they simply couldn't defend the view of the aristocracy that ruled the Confederate states. On another key point, it is true that Abe Lincoln was not the most enlightened man on racial matters. For his time, however, he was way a head of most northerners, and light years a head of Jeff Davis, Alexander Stephens and other key traitors. Basically, the authors should have called the book "The North Wasn't as Right as History Would Like Us To Believe." As we approach the new millenium, it would be nice to know that John C. Calhoun's philosophy of interpostion and nullification died with the Civil War. The authors prove otherwise, much to the lament of the free mind.
Rating: Summary: This is a fascinating book. It is a must read. Review: The authors disclose numerous facts that contradict popular misconceptions of the Civil War. This book clearly demonstrates that the Southern cause was honorable. The history we have learned in school is exposed as the propaganda it truly is. The authors clearly document and support every assertion. While reading I suggest you concentrate on the numerous facts disclosed, and ignore the authors political opinions (they advocate modern Southern succession.) Even with the authors propaganda, the book is an educational must read.
Rating: Summary: I Wish I Was in the Land of Cotton! Review: The South Was Right! is a truly excellent book. It should be in every American classroom, rather than the good ol' yankee books. It has proof that the war was never about slavery and that the Confederacy was fighting for self-government and to defend its home. Any Southern patriot, and even Northerners, should read this book. It sheds a new light on The War for Southern Independence!
Rating: Summary: Excellent. A new perspective was needed. Review: The Kennedys have a well-researched engaging work. I found myself agreeing with most of what they said. They said the South was culpable for slavery, as well as the Northern slave traders and the African tribes who sold them to the traders. They did not in any way, deny the South's responsibility, but they did attempt to sugar coat it a bit by citing numerous quotes from slaves who said they were well-treated. Their anti-North bias was very apparent, and perhaps they could have toned down the rhetoric. The word, "Yankee" peppers the book. It is, nonetheless, engaging, fascinating, thoroughly researched and footnoted, and accurate. I can understand their vitriol to some extent, as White Southerners are not a "politically correct" segment of the US population. I recommend this book to any thinking person and especially to those politically correct individuals who may think they understand the natural order of the world.
Rating: Summary: It's About Time Review: I saw this book on the shelf for sometime....then one day I said let me read it.......the truth is finally being spoken and the people being heard.....I have told everyone about it.......We need more like it........
Rating: Summary: Well documented, hard facts Review: This book would rate a 10, but I knocked it down two spots due to it's rather "exhaustive" use of the term "Yankee", which detracts a little from the message. However, in all other respects, this is one of the finest books I've ever read and every fact in it is documented with a source reference. In fact, it's almost as if the authors expected the reader not to believe anything in the book so they footnoted everything! This book will give you the way it (the Civil War) happened and how. Read about the documented debauchery of Southern Slaves by the "liberating" Union Army. Read about Union use of Confederate POW's as "human shields" in battles that took place over 100 years before we started complaining about Sadaam Husien using this barbaric tactic against us. Read this book and see the myth that the war was fought to end slavery explode before your very eyes. Bottom line, the war was fought between two factions over two different theories of the way the Constitution should be applied to government. This books illustrates that the wrong side (the "big government" side) won and calls to action all Americans to set the path right again.
