Summary: A pitiful defense of the South
Review: This is one of the poorest attempts to write a book of history that I've ever read. The authors create lame arguments and give the poorest "proof" to support those arguments. The exhaustive use of the derogatory use of the word "Yankee" is a good sign that you can't really take this book seriously.

In their attempt to prove that "the South was right!", they totally ignore vast chunks of history, primarily material from the actual leaders of the southern rebellion. They totally ignore all of the seceding states' constitutions, where they proclaim that the main reason they are rebelling is because they want to preserve slavery. They totally ignore the words of John C. Calhoun, of Robert Barnwell Rhett, of Alexander Stephens, and of a myriad of other Southern leaders who state unequivocally that slavery is behind their reasons for secession. They only quote these figures when it serves their title premise.

It is unfortunate that they ! do have some valid points to make about the Constitution and of how the Founding Fathers considered secession an important right, but these worthy subjects are buried under an avalanche of shoddy research, poor and unfounded arguments and a generally sad commentary on the intelligence level of their intended audience.

They also have the nerve to state that slavery was "not so bad." If that was so, why weren't more Southern whites giving up the mortgage and the job and selling themselves and their families off to slavery? The Brothers Kennedy do not touch any issue that they cannot justify. They simply ignore it. Is this the kind of book that, as one enamoured reviewer stated, "should be required reading in our schools"? What a frightening thought.

If one wants to read an excellent book on the subject of why the South seceded, one should read "The Road to Disunion" by William Freehling. The difference between the scholarship is all too ob! vious.

Summary: The South Was Right, Alright!
Review: The South Was Right is a text of superlative achievement. The authors have performed an excellent task in offering thought provoking information supported with solid historical data about the true conditions of slavery, the life of Black Southerners, the contributions of Black Confederates in the War for Southern Independence, and the REAL truth about the North. I was deeply edified by this text. The text is easy reading and the writing style is personable. I highly recommend this text for anyone who is seeking the REAL TRUTH about the War for Southern Independence and about the South in general. It is necessary for the reader to have an objective and open mind, attributes which are always required for the pursuit of accurate historical truth.

Summary: What a pile of manure
Review: I was born and raised in South Carolina and I've heard this whining for over 70 years. No one has ever explained why it's ok for states to seceed from the Union, but counties can't seceed from states. Or why draw the line there? Why can't cities seceed from counties? Why can't streets seceed from cities? You get a parking ticket downtown? No problem. Tell the judge your neighborhood doesn't recognize the city's right to build parking meters. Tell him he'll have to negotiate with your street's mayor. If these people don't like being Americans, let them leave!

Summary: One of the best books I ever read!
Review: This book was great. In fact, I almost read the entire thing without stopping! As a Confederate Civil War reenactor, the respite from the accepted veiw of history was refreshing. This book should be required reading in the schools! Anyone who loves freedom should start flying his Confederate flag now!

Summary: Provacative and Thought Provoking...For All Americans!
Review: The Authors have painstakingly researched and set to print what many Americans on both sides of the Mason-Dixon are coming to realize; that far beyond the simplified explanations given us through text books for the past one-hundred years, there is MORE to the history of those far away times. Americans should question the line we've been given. This book is timely and should wake us all up to take back our country to re-establish it as our Founding Fathers intended.

Summary: A Good Book That Could Have Been Great...
Review: When I first began reading this book, my first reaction was, "Well, another book by a bunch of nuts!" The reason: the authors would launch into name-calling and political diatribe that would probably turn off most readers. But I stuck to it and continued reading the book. I am happy I did. What followed were well-documented and well-reasoned arguments about the history of the U.S., the individual states, the colonies, and the territory long before the United States ever came into being. The authors never stopped the name-calling ("the money grubbing Yankees, etc., etc.), but the frequency decreased and their facts and logic showed through. They painted a portrait of the U.S. today that is far different from the country envisioned by the Founding Fathers - or those that came before them. And they point out the historical reasons for this divergence.....Had it not been for their name-calling and occasional diatribes (which, frankly, detracted from their work), this could have been a really great book! .....Would I recommend it? A definite "YES!". Just stick with it through the first two chapters and you will be delighted. The authors did indeed prove that "the South was right". And this comes from a "damned Massachusetts Yankee".

Summary: A Must Read For All Americans, North, South and West
Review: For all the books about the War Between the States I found this one most refreshing. Although it could have been a might shorter(it's a little repetitive), I'm glad the authors bring to light the real causes of the War and that the Union army was not full of angels on Earth. I would recomend this book to every American to understand that just because a cause is lost, that doesn't mean it was not noble and honorable. Although I'm a Pennsylvanian by birth, my heart belongs to Dixie. I call on all lovers of freedom to fly the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia proudly and spread the truth about what really happened.

Summary: Just goes to prove it...The Truth Is Out There!
Review: I am one of those kinds of people who just doesn't always believe the "party" line. Since I had a hard time believing the concept that if only 10% of the populace of the South "owned" slaves, why would the other 90% of them fight for this "right"? Why we can't even get 2 people to fight for what is right today let alone a whole state full! So after reading this book and doing some extra research on the subject, I will have to say, I may be born north of the Mason Dixon line, which makes me a Northern by birth, that I am now a SOUTHERN BY CHOICE because THE SOUTH WAS RIGHT! They were so RIGHT that I can only pray that more of them read this book and come to the same conclusion...WE NEED TO RALLY AROUND THE BONNIE BLUE AGAIN! This book was WELL RESEARCHED and has many footnotes, and sources that you can check to verify its truth. Lets quit believing the lie and start writing history to reflect truth as these two brothers did with this well written and informative piece of history. I think every homeschooled youth in the South needs to read this book as a school lesson! If they had a rating of 20 available, I would rate it a 50!

Summary: The Best Book You'll ever read
Review: I believe I am a Southern Patriot, and I feel every true soul south of the Mason- Dixon should read this book. Seeing the title, one might suppose that this is some wack racists opinion. Not true. The Kennedys have reliable sources for everything they write. A must read.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: SKY-rating 10
Review: I read the book. I concur with the conclusions of the book and anyone who gives this book less than an 8 rating must be North of the Mason-Dixon Line. Anyone giving it less than 5 is a very good candidate for the New World Order (in my opinion). My friend borrowed my book and goes nowhere without it. She has purchased 6 additional ones and is sending them for gifts. Good idea. Spread the word.
