Rating: Summary: Dumped but not forgotten. Review: As usual Elizabeth Berg has the ability to reveal the skeleton of the situtation. In this book, Open House, she captures that feeling of having the wind knocked out of you as "HE" walks out the door, the desperation that one feels waiting for "HIM" to "SEE THE LIGHT" and return - even when it would be the worst thing for your spirit if he did. I was intrigued by the prospect of true kindredness in the form of a dogwalker. When Ms. Berg was finished, the story goes on in my head and I know that our heroine is exactly that. She will finish her own story quite well, thank you. A great read...single, marrried, divorced or widowed....
Rating: Summary: Pretty boring, pretty disapointed! Review: Elizabeth Berg has been one of my favorite authors for quite sometime. However, I wonder what happened to her? It's not that this book is not enjoyable. I just kept thinking it would get deeper and the story would take off. When I finished...the one thought that came to mind... this could have been a short story in the back of a woman's magazine!I can't say that I would buy her next book. Maybe wait to rent it from the library!
Rating: Summary: Berg is Dead On Review: If Berg has never been dumped by a spouse, she sure has a perfect immagination, because what she describes happening to Sam in "Open House" is exaclty the way it is. Once again she has written a can't-put-down!
Rating: Summary: An Abandoned Wife with an Open House, heart and mind Review: Elizaberth Berg writes from the heart. This is not another psychobabble novel of a woman picking up the pieces of an over-examined, shattered marriage. Samantha's husband has left her and their young son. She is hurt but certainly not broken. Her sense of humor is in tact. Blind dates, a solo Thanksgiving, unusual new roommates, and reaching out to touch Martha Stewart are just a few of the scenarios where Berg's rye wit sparkles. Samantha pines for the security of her old routines, but is trying to be alert ot new possiblities. It's hard work. Her welcome response is more comedic than begrudging. She is a woman your might want to laugh over coffee with. Along with her Open House, Sam has kept an open heart and consequently her mnd also opens to a new possiblity of love. Ahhh, with this novel, Berg has done it again. It's hard to put down, it is just so satisfying -- Another refreshing gulp from an author who knows women.

Rating: Summary: What HAPPENED to the author of Talk Before Sleep??? Review: I have been a fan of Elizabeth Berg, but after her last two books I'm beginning to wonder what happened to the excellent author who explored women's issues through characters who displayed strength and character. Sam is a simpering, needy character. The author's answer to her problems with self worth is to 'give' her another man to make her a happy woman. This was the same solution Ms. Berg gave her female character in Until the Real Thing Comes Along. Please stop, Elizabeth!!! Give your readers more books like Pull of the Moon and Talk Before Sleep, and I'll return to being your very vocal fan.
Rating: Summary: Another Fun Berg Book Review: I read this one in just a few days, a nice quick summer read. I really enjoyed being part of Sam's life but I did hope the book was a little longer. I loved the last scene with Sam and Lavender Blue talking; that was pretty funny. Everyone talked about the Thanksgiving scene but I thought the Lavender part was funnier. And I loved hearing about King and Sam's various part time jobs. I had a few doubts about this books since I have never been married nor divorced or had kids so I wasnt sure if I would relate to what Sam was going through but it turned out that Sam was a pretty interesting character. Another Berg book I would recommend!!!
Rating: Summary: Love Elizabeth Berg; but this one was not my favorite Review: Elizabeth Berg is my favorite author, and I buy all of her books sight unseen. In Open House she once again displays her remarkable talent of knowing women so well. She is so adept at expressing the thousands of emotions women go through dealing with relationships as a daughter, wife, mother, and friend. I pace myself reading all her books--to make them last. This was slightly disappointing because it was over too soon! Some parts are loaded with detail, and others are brushed over a bit too quickly. I found myself wishing that I could have stayed in Sam's life a little bit longer! Also, I noticed a slight change in her style--it was almost as if her editor advised her to spice it up a bit, because a couple of scenes seemed a bit more graphic than her usual style and almost like they were added in after the fact.
Rating: Summary: Another Home Run! Review: I absolutely love Elizabeth Berg's work! As a librarian, I'm able to read lots of books and, oftentimes, an author will write one really good piece of work and then fizzle. Not this lady! I've read everything by her and she is just too good. She obviously pays attention to human nature because she consistently captures it like no other author I've ever read. All of the characters in this book were well developed and I couldn't wait to see how everyone ended up, especially the annoying husband. I was able to read this book quickly and enthusiastically pass it along to friends who also enjoyed it.
Rating: Summary: Open House Review: I've read all of Elizabeth Berg's books, and this may be the best! I love her style -- the way you can identify with and become friends with the characters. This book made me laugh -- just the way she thinks! -- and it made me cry, both with sadness and joy. I finished it in two days, and I didn't want to put it down, nor did I want it to end! My best friend turned me on to Berg's books. We can relate to how she portrays friends -- we often say we could have written the particular book we're reading at the time. That we both love Berg's books is yet another of our bonds.
