Summary: A time in your life you don't really want to revisit
Review: There are a lot of women out there for whom the painful experience of divorce is fresh, and for those women, this would probably be a good book. But for those of us who went through it years ago and have moved beyond it, it's a time you don't really want to go back to. For that reason, I never really emotionally connected with the story. Also, am I wrong, or did Sam only start to feel better about herself once she found another man? It would have been better if she had recaptured her self-esteem before she realized her feelings for King. And what really would have been special is if she had fallen in love with King without his losing weight.

Summary: Am I the only one?
Review: Yes, I love how Elizabeth Berg writes. Yes, I would love to BE Elizabeth Berg. But this novel really got on my nerves. First of all, Sam is so clueless you want to shake a stick in front of her and yell, "Hello, Wake up woman." In today's world, women don't get to live in la la land...or they shouldn't be heroines if they do. The ex-husband is without redeeming value which makes you wonder both about Sam and somehow question the veracity of her point of view. The, sex scene that wasn't, was beyond humiliating. This is a woman in need of some girlfriends. I yelled out loud for her to just quit it already...

Finally, the hero. Okay, all was well until he had to have graduated from MIT. When will someone write a hero who is just a dang bum but has a good heart? And his almost virginal background. Interesting concept but again, this rocket scientist paired with the clueless chick, just doesn't cut it for me.

Her relationship with her son was a little off as was the eccentric but lovable boarders. Oh puh-lease. But, I will grant Ms. Berg this, I read the whole thing in one night so she can obviously spin a yarn. What's surprising is that it doesn't sound like Madame O's typical cuppa tea. Oh yeah, and the Martha Cameo, it would have only been worse if it was a Kathy Lee Gifford cameo, enuff said. Send the asassins.

Summary: pathetic
Review: I do not appreciate this book at all and it is offensive to me that people call this every women's book. Sorry, No. This book did not compensate in writing for what it lacked in character and plot. The main character was so pathetic it made me sick. How sorry does a women have to be that she cannot think of anything to do with herself but eat Godiva chocolates and spend 12,000 at Tiffany's? How unconscience does a women have to be to realize (after a fraction of her life is spent married to this man) that her husband does not love her?? To me this book lacked good writing, which would explain all the name dropping, (Martha Stewart, Godiva, Tiffany's etc.) I am saddened that so many women relate to this poor pathetic women's story.

Summary: I could not put this book down
Review: This was a real gem. I really felt I got to know and care for all of the characters in this story. Elizabeth Berg is an easy read, a real pleasure. (Every book does not need to be a chore to read. This certainly was not.) It was like visiting with an old friend and participating in her life. I am anxious to read more of E. Berg books. Full House was my favorite summer book. Thanks, Amazon, for catching my eye with it.

Summary: And we're reading this because¿?
Review: It's an Oprah book, but not a good one. Cliché after cliché after cliché: divorced woman lost in the world, left by a husband who never loved her; a son bordering on adolescence whom she doesn't understand; a kind stranger opens her heart up. Please, give me something new and different. And then in the last 20 pages, nothing but dramatic event after dramatic event. Where was the drama through the first 200 pages? A quick, uninteresting, and unsatisfying read. She should take notes from Wally Lamb.

Summary: Oprah needs to be stopped
Review: Here's a bit of constructive criticism for Oprah: pick a book about something new. Stop picking books about the same, damn thing over and over again. I can just picture Oprah's book selection meetings: AGENT: Oprah, I know you don't read these books so I read it for you and I just want you to know it's about another female victim. OPRAH: Child, I'll pick it.

Summary: A Good Book
Review: I got this book for a couple of reasons...I read berg's book Durable Goods a while ago and loved it, it was 40% off, and, i was told it was a really fast book. What I wasnt told, though, was that it was such an awesome an well written book that it would could make a 40 something divorced womans problems understandable to a 17 year old girl. A Great book, I'd reccomend it to anyone!

Summary: Very Anne Tyleresque
Review: This is the endearing story of Samantha and Travis and their lives after a divorce. We see Sam deal with all of the various stages of grief, getting stronger after each one, and we also see Travis coping with his parents' split. The book is extremely reminiscent of Anne Tyler. There are a lot of mildly different characters in the book as you would expect from Tyler. This is an easy read and, while a little different from some of Berg's other books, I enjoyed this one more. Somehow it is just milder. You see that basically balanced people can make it through a divorce and become stronger without totally falling apart in the process.

Summary: What a wonderful book!
Review: I have always enjoyed reading anything by Elizabeth Berg -- she is a wonderful writer who has an amazing ability to capture emotions in such a way that you know EXACTLY what the characters are feeling. And this book is no exception -- it was fantastic! I just read it straight through, and as is the case with all her books, I was sad when it ended! There were many places throughout the book where I was laughing out loud and re-read certain passages over and over because they were so well-written! I'm thrilled for Ms. Berg that this is an Oprah selection, so that she will get the attention she deserves for her gift of writing! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Elizabeth Berg, and anyone who isn't yet will be after this (and then you can go back and discover all her other gems!)
