Summary: No Eye Can See
Review: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NIV)

Jane Kirkpatrick has once again filled her readers up with stories of kinship and desertion, success and failure, love and loss...in her newly released book, "No Eye Can See".

This is book two of three in the kinship and courage series by Kirkpatrick that documents the lives of several women left alone through death and desertion as they make their way west in the 1850s. The characters that were introduced in "All Together in One Place", the first book in the series, become part of your life again. Each possessing their own strengths and weaknesses, it is easy for the reader to identify with the journeys of these women; and place those same elements into lives today.

Kirkpatrick's masterful storytelling is second only to her massive research which goes into the creating of the story. One need only read her acknowledgements at the end of the book to realize this is not an "off the top of your head book", but rather a retelling of life as it really existed in the times of gold rushes and speculations.

Somewhere mixed in between the stories of these women, you come to realize that we are all "blinded"--sightless to the visions of life and the choices we make. As Suzanne Cullver, the blinded, widowed pioneer woman with two children comes to realize, physical sight is far less important than internal sight. If we are to become the "pioneers" of internal sight we need books like "No Eye Can See" to help us realize our journey and the path we take to live life to the fullest.

The characters in this book are as real as the author herself. The pain explained is at a level that we all can connect with, and the growth is the one thing each and every reader will aspire to. "No Eye Can See" is a book for all of us who want to shed our "blindness" and accept each and every "sight" in our life that can help build our individual spirit.

Summary: No Eye Can See
Review: "Some things are just worth doing, worth trying, even if fifty years from now we look back and say, 'That didn't work out well, now, did it?' But that'd be better than not doing anything at all. We're fashioned to risk, Mazy. The way I see it, God's a risk-taker for sure, putting us here, hoping we'd not forget how we arrived. I'd rather have a saddlebag of mistakes to look back at than sitting in an old Hitchcock rocker with an empty mind because nothing worthy'd been risked. Memories are certain. Can't see what's ahead, no matter how you try."

The above passage from the second book in the Kinship and Courage Series aptly sets the stage for the continuing saga of the remarkable lives of a group of ordinary women, once strangers, now family, who left behind everything they knew and were sure of to follow their men to the brave new world of the West Coast territories. Only their men die or abandon them enroute, and when faced with the decision to turn back or carry on, they firmly grasp one another's hearts and hands and go forth into a land none of their eyes had ever seen, knowing only with the strength and support of one another will any of them make it through.

Jane Kirkpatrick is an incredible writer. This work of historical fiction, based on scrupulous research of historical fact, will touch the heart of every woman, young or old and somewhere inbetween. In our modern world where our lives are governed by our Dayplanners, these women had only hope and abiding faith that God would see them through, when they themselves could not see what lay ahead.

I highly recommend not only this book, but the series beginning with "All Together in One Place." If you have not read the first book, by all means do so. These two books would make an excellent summer read, finished just in time for the projected release of the third and final installment for Fall 2001.

As with all her books, Mrs. Kirkpatrick interweaves her background and training as a social worker working with the Native peoples surrounding her Oregon home, with her own abiding faith, to give us a story of adventure, filled with suspense and hope.

But warning: She has an infuriating habit of taking you to the edge of the steepest precipe and then leaving you to dangle there, rapidly flipping pages to see what happens next.

An excellent read. I heartily give it FIVE gold stars.

Review: Here is another "can't put down" read!! This continuing story of eleven women brought together by tragedy gives us another lesson in faith courage and strength!! We see how though most are no relation they have grown into a family that they depend on for daily strength.Changes always have to come and we have to figure a way to deal with them and pick up our pieces and go on with our lives!!! Mazy has to face this in more than one instance. When one door closes another always opens for her!! Our Father always has a plan for our lives we have to keep the faith that he knows what is best for us and the ones we love!! Can't wait for the third book to see what develops for these women next!!!!

Review: I have completed the kinship series. Each character could have been a book on her/his own. I found the conversation and discription of the land/events a balanced mixture that kept me interested in the story line and in love with the characters. I highly recommend this series and this author. Good books for young women...

Review: If you're looking for a wholesome, interesting story sprinkled with suspense, then you'll like this book. Some of the connections between the characters are a little far-fetched, but it 's easy to ignore that, just go along for the ride and enjoy it. I appreciate the way Kirkpatrick weaves Christian principals and messages into her stories.

Review: It has been years since I have found a book this enjoyable to read.
I am so glad this book is one in a series. There is a lot wisdom in the characters dialog. I am a new fan of Jane Kirkpatrick's. -
