Rating: Summary: More of a romance novel than mystery/suspense Review: Expecting a mystery/suspense novel, I was disappointed because Cry Wolf had little mystery and little suspense. Although several murders had taken place, there was little action toward investigating the murders or collecting evidence. For the most part, it was a soap opera, involving Laurel, her sister Savannah, her mother, her father and her step-father. Cry Wolf was pretty much what I was *not* looking for or expecting. I'll have to be more careful in selecting books in the future. END
Rating: Summary: This book combined both suspense and romance. Review: If you like both romance and suspense this is the book for you!! It introduces you to several characters that are possible serial killers, and it keeps you guessing which one is really the killer. An on/off type of romance evolves between two of the characters, keeping you wondering if there is any future in it. I loved it. Other authors I have read that compares are James Patterson and Iris Johansen.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Review: To all those who thought this book had too much romance I have something to say to you. Tami Hoag originally started off writing romances and this particular one was originally written as just that , a romantic suspense. It wasn't until later when she became popular to most with Guilty as Sin, that they re-published the book for mainstream mystery. I have been an avid fan of Tami's for years and love all her books. I never liked the mushy, all romance books and was so happy to find an author who did not ignore the enchanting and exciting world of romance but at the same time gave us something juicy and powerful to read in the form of mystery. I just wish she could write faster. Cry Wolf is one of my favorite of all her books yet I still think her Dark Paradise is my all time favorite book from any author. I think people need to open their minds and read different types of things. Take advice from a person who reads Hoag, Koontz, King, and many others. There is more out there than you think.. I also think the reference to Bodice whatever is ignorant. Tami keep up the great work, in my mind you are the best writer (for enjoyment) right now.
Rating: Summary: Nice but needs more help Review: Cry Wolf was a good story but it needed more details such as why the killer was so evil and wanted to kill the women in the most seriously disgusting ways. This was more of a romance than a suspense.I like romance, but this book should have more suspense. The hero was a guy who was always busy feeling sorry for himself and thinking he was not good enough for the heroine. The heroine was cool but a little too prim. All in all, it was okay.
Rating: Summary: Cry Wolf kept me on the edge. Review: Cry Wolf was so well written that I litterally couldn't put it down. The power of Tammi Hoags writting made the book come alive. The ongoing saga of the murders kept the book interesting and mysteriously romantic.
Rating: Summary: Tami Hoag's "Cry Wolf" Review: This is my favorite Tami Hoag novel. It combines suspense with the powerful sexual tension that is missing in her more recent novels, such as "Guilty As Sin". The sexual tension mixed with the suspenseful plot makes for a book I've read over and over again.
Rating: Summary: As with all Tami Hoag's books this one was great,a must read Review: The story line was great, the characters were interesting. For a suspence you could hardly wait for Laurel and Jack to realize they belonged together. The actual killer was a real surprise too. It was definately a book I could not put down
Rating: Summary: Should be on the ROMANCE shelf! Review: This book belongs on the romance shelf! It had NO suspense whatsoever. About the only thing keeping me from throwing it in the trash in the middle of the story was the hope that the ending would justify the time I invested in reading it! Yuk, yuk, yuk. I think Tami Hoeg owes me a couple of hours
Rating: Summary: More Romance than Suspense Review: Ms. Hoag's transition from romance novels to crime/suspense novels is still a work in progress. The first 250 pages of this book read like a typical bodice-ripper, focusing on washboard stomachs and sexual yearnings than on the actual bayou murders occuring in the local parish.
When Cry Wolf finally does get down to focusing on the murders, still with a tremendous romance bent, it's as if Hoag was working from some standard formula. Not only is it completely obvious who is committing the murders but the climax is almost painfully trite.
If you really want to read a suspense novel with a strong and extremely interesting female protagonist, skip this and pick up something else, Mallory's Oracle for instance.
Rating: Summary: Riveting; WOLF has it ALL. Hoag is a serious CF contender!! Review: There are a select few crime fiction authors whose abilities compel the reader into a voracious page-turning frenzy. Tami
Hoag's emergence from the world of romance novels into the
highly competitive CF market is nothing short of stunning.
Not only has Hoag created a seriously believable murder plot,
the characters are compelling enough to seem almost three-dimensional. The history, lore, sociology and very essence of New Orleans are quite clearly interwoven into this tale of snap judgments,
family values, and a passionate romance which develops at the
core of the story. Hoag's romance ability is far from hidden; it takes a monster talent to combine these two
genres with class and finesse. Hoag has achieved the ultimate
with CRY WOLF: a page-turner of exquisitely rare craftsmanship which very successfully combines a searing love story and
a series of brutal murders, as well as presenting the historical
mystique of New Orleans with lifelike clarity.
CRY WOLF is a must-read for the crime fiction fanatic. I
took it everywhere with me--it was one of those books that
I wished would never end.
