Summary: Ridley Pearson Returns to Top Form
Review: After what I thought was a step backward in The First Victim, Ridley Pearson has returned to his top form with The Middle of Nowhere. It has satisfying doses of everything we have come to like about the Lou Boldt series - another REALLY bad villian, another conflict with Seattle PD that keeps Boldt in his role as a tarnished knight errant, continued sexual tension in Boldt's relationship with Daphne Matthews, more conflict and tenderness with his wife Liz, and a hair raising climactic chase through - you guessed it - the middle of nowhere to save the kidnapped Daphne with his cowboy protege and fellow outsider Jake LaMoia. Pearson always finds one or two contemporary scientific topics to work into his story lines (the tide patterns of Puget Sound in Undercurrents being perhaps his most memorable). In this novel he introduces us to the science of locating people through their cell phone signals (which technology is now required of all cell phone companies so that 911 callers can be located) and Pearson skillfully makes this a central aspect in the resolution of the story, If Beyond Recognition and Pied Piper were 5 stars, this one is a strong 4 1/2.

Summary: A Heartpounding Rollercoaster Ride!
Review: "Middle of Nowhere" was one of the best of the bests of Mr. Pearson's writing! From the first chapter, you are pulled into the book just as if you were working the case with Lou and Daphne. With each turn of the story, it is like a rollercoaster making the plunge! This ride was such an experience I had to actually put the book down for a few minutes to catch my breathe and wait for my heart to stop pounding!

Ridley Pearson is one of the elite few writers who I will automatically pick up the newest hardbound novel without ever cracking the book open to see what it is about! The characters always hold true and the rollercoaster twists and turns of the story never let me down. I might add in "Middle of Nowhere", I look at my cell phone in a whole new light!

Excellent writing both content and characters. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long for the next installment of Lou Boldt and Daphne Matthews to come out! The only other author I feel the same way (in another genre) is the Jan Karon Mitford series! In the crime thriller genre, Ridley would be first in my preferences followed by John Sanford.

Well Done!

Summary: Ridley Rides Again!
Review: Mr. Pearson gets better and better everytime. I could not put this book down for anything. I finished it in one day. Which is the average amount of time it takes for a REALLY GOOD book. Lou Boldt and Daphne Matthews are such wonderful characters. Middle of Nowhere will take you everywhere around Seattle and across the Puget Sound. Looking forward for more, Mr. P!

Summary: The Lieutenant Takes high Tea
Review: But only once a month, because he can't afford it more often. This book was a disappointment, and mainly because the author continues the insipid feminization of his protagonist. Lou Boldt tip toes through the book awash in his sensitivities while strong women surround him and adore him for no obvious reason. But even the villains in this book fail to register. The author has done better, by far, and will, I hope return to his old form. I'd love to see him write one with LaMoia as the central character, neglecting sissy Boldt altogether.

Better yet I'll read the new James Lee Burke novel. At least Dave Robicheaux wrestles with real demons and draws some real blood now and then.

Summary: middle of nowhere
Review: Another great book by Ridley Pearson. Boldt and Matthews are at their best. I've read all the Pearson and McCall books and this rates as one of the best.

Summary: Ridley Pearson does it again!
Review: Ridley Pearson has scored again with Middle of Nowhere. I found this book fast paced and riviting. Lou Boldt is a detective that Seattle should REALLY have on the force.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A Fast and Fascinating Read!
Review: I enjoyed Ridley Pearson's new book, Middle of Nowhere. He knows the Seattle area and police procedures. I too feel like I know Lou Boldt and the rest of the police officers in the police dept. Lou is not a perfect man. He has faults and weaknesses. They only make him more believable. The book builds to a very tense and exciting ending! I hope that Mr Pearson is hard at work on the next story!

Summary: Nowhere near the middle
Review: It seems I've waited a long time to see Lou in action again, but the wait was well worth it. It's such a fast read I force myself to slow down toward the end to prepare myself for another wait for the next book. The workings of cell phones and triangulation is much clearer to me now.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Middle of Nowhere leaves us needing more
Review: I had one problem with this book. The wait I will have until the next Lou Boldt novel. I usually don't like what i consider a serial novelist, someone who brings us the same character and because of that familiarity the story suffers. Ridley Pearson trancends this. It is a great story first and the characters are having true problems which makes them real, therefore making the story ring all the more true. The story of the sickout within the Police force setting "brother against brother" could have made the book itself but Ridley goes beyond that. We get to meet our mysterious Chinese Mafia head and wonder when and what favors are going to be asked. Ridley, and to the buyers out there, this was a great read, I hate cliches but I could not put it down. These characters are friends now and if you don't know them get to know them, buy The First Victim when you pick up this book. This makes for better than just summer reading get ready to be hooked and hopefully soon Ridley will lead us out of the Middle of Nowhere.
